Man! I took a remolded bullet train home from Tokyo yesterday. Japan Rail really revamped the train, making everything inside all silvery (save for the icky blue seats). The biggest change was that there were no smoking cars. Like, I usually get a non-reserved seat, and the third car is always smoking. So, if you're in the second car of the bullet train, you can still smell it. Instead of having a smoking car, they had a small glass-enclosed smoking closet, which didn't seem to smell.

Back when I did smoke, I always rode in the smoking car, but man, it smells so bad in there, I really wonder how I was able to do that. The attitudes towards smoking have changed since I moved here. The number of people who smoke in Japan is still high, but it has been declining. Heck, when I first moved here, you could smoke in the local supermarket!

Tell you what though, quitting was so damn hard. I felt like I was going to die for the first three days — I even became physically ill.
