Quite literally. "The Hell of Sand" is a brilliant time-waster of a flash game. "There are many dynamics to this game but no goal. Play around for a while and you'll get the hang of it." Great premise.
You play with four streams of colored sand using 18 different effects, some of them working in awesome combinations with each other.
C-4 and Torch, for example, wasn't too hard to figure out. I've also been making little cups of gunpowder and blasting them to hell with torch. But can someone tell me what "plant" does? Does it grow in the water? I can't figure it out.

The grass grows in water, and can be burnt by the fire. :D
Wow, this is really old. I remember wasting time with this little things years ago.
Extremely old, but extremely fun. I wasted too many hours on this thing.
Haha I used to love this game.
I remember this thing, I usually just summoned that giant blob and tried burning it to death.
Turns out the secret to killing it is salt.
I believe you need to put down sand, then the plant, then water. It grows, fun to put on fire.
Sand may be option, not sure.
i found that laying a line of grass at the bottom then a line of water spout at the top and then letting that create weird bush lookin things then torching it all was pretty fun.
Best flash game. Easy.
First played this years ago! :D
I love the theme song for this game
Ah, I used to play this years ago; still do every now and then.
Plant basically turns any water that touches it into itself; hence putting a fountain over a plant will result in the plant growing up the flow of water and eventually choking the fountain itself. Also, any contact with fire will set off a slow (relatively speaking)-burning unextinguishable flame that eradicates any plant that it touches. Good for setting fuses.
I found it more interesting that wax will melt in much the same way (albeit much slower) and drip onto whatever's below it, just like real wax.
Oh, and speaking of fountains, make them in a U shape and then poke holes in the bottom for the greatest flow possible, and salt will combine with water to make saltwater; don't know about its properties, though.
That's all I know. :D
Holy crap this is fun. I think I played this before on a jailbroken iPhone.
eh, I remember this one.. I think I spent like 30 min once to play around with it.. xD
I don't like the changes they made to the plant, it grows TOO fast in this version.
Oh, a few notes. I think this is the homepage:

As well as having Pyro Sand (the real name for what the other site calls Hell of Sand, which is actually a completely different game, with slugs and zombies) it has the sequel, Pyro Sand 2, which has things like methane and "Owko", which have...interesting effects.
@Inverse Logic: This is Java. ;)
Great game, I loved this years ago and I love it now.
Absolutely brilliant.
So, does drawing tits with wax and then lighting them on fire make me a pervert?
@enigma89: Not if you keep your hands where I can see them!
You really didn't know about this flash game? It's so old, but it is truly great. I think I wasted about an hour and a half playing this once. It would be great on iPhone.
If you like this game, you'll LOVE Powder Game. Google "dan-ball", its a very similar flash game but with WAY more features and materials to play with. Its got all sorts of explody things, air pressure and wind, wierd things like ants and bubbles, magma, and lots more. All while still being updated with new things.
Burning Sand is my favorite. It has more elements and a better interface plus it can be downloaded and played at any time.

Burning Sand 2 is out but is still being worked on.
OECAKE is a also a fun little thing to mess around with.
Lol i have this game on my iPhone
not to be "that guy", but this game is not made in flash.
Flash wouldn't be able to handle this many particles with physics applied to each one.
An easy way to tell in anycase, is just right clicking the the screen, no flash menu.
Powder Game 4 is way cooler. Has more stuff to play with and a blur shader for the sand.

My favorite one is:
[dan-ball.jp]
It has a ton of elements and is more free-form.
Also worth checking out,
[dan-ball.jp]
It has gravity in the middle, so you can make an planrt then shower it with meteors!
This shit is addictive.
I played this ages ago for hours. This and Line Rider are easily my favorite Flash games.
I love these things. There are a million and one of them. This is one of the better flash ones, but there are some really nice exe based ones.
I really hate it when these games need an updated flash or w/e and I try to download it and this PoS vista doesn't let it work -_-
Very fun game.
This game rocks, and so do the ones that have been linked to in this thread.
It might be because I'm a huge nerd, but these physics toys always capture my attention.

I recommend wXsand. You can download mods from the internet with
1) The integrated mod-downloader, but if that doesn't work, use
2)[fallingsandgame.com] and load the physics files manually.
Of course there are the basic elements too. This is wonderful... I like this more than the Flash-version, which is good too.
I got linked to this from stumble upon a couple of months ago. It is cool
As much as I love playing that my laptop can't handle it for some reason. Everytime I play it it bluescreens.
Oh my, my, my... thanks Owen, you have just turned my "offtime" during work into "The Hell of Sand" time.
Good thing because since I don't drink coffe, I ofene forget to make coffe breaks and am spartan like in front of my workstation all day long... very relaxing.
@Coquiton: I came in here to scream OLD! But I haven't seen the gravity one. That's a good link, Coquiton.
wow this was rather slow, I've been playing this game FOREVER! It's awesome though, I spent hours on it.
@RandomHero48:
I have EvolutionRGB on my iphone also. Its limited to fire, water, plant and clay, but since the gravity is based on the accelerometer its pretty cool.
OLD!
Now that that is out of the way, Here is a clone, with more features and constantly updated.
And here is the original site of the the "hell of sand" game, A japanese Blog called dofiblog. [ishi.blog2.fc2.com]
This person swiped the concept and the title.
I played with this YEARS AND YEARS ago.
Get with the times, old man.
This is incredibly old, but still fun :3
Hey guys I heard this was old, is that true? Confirm/deny
Too much fun!
Oh I remember that; this game is along the same lines, but better:
Hell it's so old it's been ported to the DS lol.
As others said, this has been around for quite a while, but that doesn't change the fact that it's fun to mess around with.
@man_in_gauze:
Salt water won't let plants grow
Damn you, Owen Good. I just wasted 5 hours of my life on this. Seriously, 5. I finally understand this "casual" gaming phenomenon.
Like everyone is saying PLAY POWDER GAME INSTEAD! It's way more fun, and has way more options and things to use.
[dan-ball.jp]
Laggs too much for me. :(
I hae just wasted 45 mins of my life playing this wonderful game :D
OLD
