It won't come as any surprise that EA is planning Wii and Nintendo DS "spin off" versions of its skateboarding franchise skate—IGN spilled the beans accidentally in April—but you might be surprised at how good it looks. It might not be on par visually with the Xbox 360 and PS3 entries, but Skate It, at least based on the trio of screen shots IGN secured, looks pretty good.
Skate It looks to replace the dual analog control scheme from the original skate with a Wii remote-only method that looks serviceable based on the promo video. As expected, the game also plans to use the soon to be release Wii Fit Balance Board, but executive producer Scott Blackwood is light on details. IGN has the full scoop.

Ah sweet! I hope this turns out to be good, I'd love for the balance board to be used for lots of games.
Ooh, Balance Board functionality! I'm a little afraid that the motion controls are gonna be subpar, as most third-party Wii games using them are.
i hope it looks very good looking even with wii dual layer disc.
ya, since this game was made to be used with analog sticks, i dont really see this working
Meh, balance board. At that point, just go buy a skateboard, it'll probably be easier.
These sound like they're gonna be cash-ins, and not control as well as the PS3/360 versions, and similarly not be as well-received.
@Mit:
Why play GH or Rock band? at that point just go buy a full drum set, bass and guitar.
Whether it controls as well or not is really up to the player. I'm sure some people will pwn with the balance board just as some will with a controller.
@TheNocturnalSun:
and
@Mit:
Yeah why don't we just write the game off before ANYONE has either played or given us their impressions?
I mean I'm sure before Skate. was announced you both were super confident that "flicking the thumbsticks" would work superbly and thus dethrone T-Hawk as the best skating game. Great fore sight you both have. Please tell me what next months powerball in the Pa area will be, because I'd really like to get rich quick and quit my day job.
/end sarcasm
Well, I still play my Skate on PS3 and I hope the Wii crowd gets to enjoy it. That would suck if the control system completely murdered the Wii and DS versions.
Another port? Haven't we(No pun intended) had enough?
Wow, I might have to pick up Wii Fit because of this.
if tts not a port it could be awesome...
From the interview I read at IGN, EA is calling this a spin-off and not a port.
I'm also a bit surprised how quick a new game is already being announced for the balance board.
Oh and just to clarify, in said interview, they make it clear the balance board is NOT a requirement.
@Grey Gecko: It's not a Port of Skate.
As far as from what I read in IGN it seems like a separate story all together.
oh wow that looks pretty awful. i'll keep skate, thanks. you guys can have Skate It.
anyone remember the skating game with Solid Snake in it? haha.
@Despacio: i assume you've not heard of We Ski-- it comes out a week before Wii Fit does.
Guys! What happened to the EA boycott? Come on, I thought you were my friends!
Guys! Guys?
Stop having fun! This is serious!
Haha, "she game also plans to use the soon to be release Wii Fit Balance Board" - finally a win for the UK, however small. :( We've had it a few weeks already.
The thing's awesome, though. Wii Fit is just like an exercise DVD + a tech demo for the Balance Board, looking forward to all the games that make use of it.
The most awesome thing would be if you could choose between Mote+Nuncha and Balance Board, as BB:s so pricey that I wouldn't really like to purchase it... But if this game gets something like 9/10 and they say that MoteNunchacombo is very good, but Balance Board even better, then I would consider...
...I hope that the graphics are not horrible.
The Balance Board version could be awesome. I really love the Snowboarding minigame in Wii Sports.
@Aethyr: Ouch! Such negativity.
really, you have to try and stop looking at the cup as half-empty and more as half-full.
Think of the possibilities
:)
I personally don't care for these types of games, but it certainly sounds interesting if you can combine the wiimote+nunchuk with the wii-board.
Interesting times, for three items.
Acutally i'm worried as to how long the batteries in the board will last under gamiung load.
@Onizuka-GTO: True about the batteries. I use rechargeables, but there should be a better solution MadCatz seems to have a battery pack thing, but it recharges via USB, which is kind of annoying.
