How cute! We love it when furniture has delusions of gaming hardware. Well, the joke's on us, because this particular coffee table does triple duty, storage gobs of video game paraphernalia and functioning as a working NES controller in addition to its coffee tabling duties. Creator Kyle tipped us off today to let us know the whole thing is finished, with helpful how-to posts and video of the thing in action embedded within the celebratory completion post. He even got a girl to go near it and she doesn't look scared. Nice goin, Kyle!

I'd still rather have this ...

@hollowfreak:
That can't play mario. Fail
It would be interesting to try and play with this. Imagine trying to run, jump and crouch in mid air on Mario with that thing.
Finally someone invents a controller big enough for my meathook hands.
oh my god i think im in love.
i would be the coolest thing going with this thing in my apartment.
set my NES on there and it will be almost awesome.
I would like to (attempt to) play NES with my feet.
Wasn't this done like 3 years ago on screen savers? I know kevin rose was still on the show...
@LittleBigPlaneteer: I'm sure it can, actually, it's just that it'll need multitouch specific software or a USB port to plug a controller into it, oh... And the ability to run windows XP software like the emulators you'd want to run on it (I think the surface has a proprietary OS that's made specifically for it, but I could be wrong.)
That, and this homemade controller coffee table has the cool factor and CHEAP factor in one... The surface just has the "Sharper image, bill gates could own one" factor...
Now where to find a matching set of coasters.....
hahaha I want one of those! thats is soooo retro. love it!
Really pretty lady too.
@JimElNino: I think the [?] boxes would make perfect coasters ;)
I couldn't do that. I'm pretty impartial to coasters, so I'd put a cup on it, spill it, and then yell way too many curses for my own virgin ears. I would then steal away to my room where I will weep uncontrollably.
It's almost the size of the old Xbox controller (Duke)...
I'm gonna work on one modeled after the Jaguar controller
I'd like to see Iwata upend that coffee table!
Tell Kyle that Sony receiver he has back there needs more ventilation. I had the same receiver and had it poorly ventilated like his is, and it died a horrible death. Cool job on the coffee table, but I can't imagine a style of decor it would go with other than "early mom's basement."
Kind of cheesy. Its too bulky and just too damn big for any kind orientation to appease the visual senses.
Sure, I would have loved one when I was in a studio, it would have been sexy then.
Regardless, Its commendable just for the amount of time and effort that went into this piece.
i rather have it as a coffee table and make a wii and p3 dual shock 3.
Man, it might be really tiring to play games with that.
...you people make me sad. The guy's coffee table freakin' plays video games! His COFEE TABLE! Admit it: you're all just jealous.
I'm just blown away by the seeming simplicity of it, which belies it's triple functionality - though kick ass aesthetic art piece should be added as a viable fourth.
Way to go Kyle!
My name is Kyle! Does that mean that this table is actually mine?
Dammit. Now I've got to dig up my NES and make one of these. It's just too cool.
Kramer should put this in his coffee table book that ALSO functions as a coffee table!
Yeah cause girls are afraid of video games...I think ANYONE would think that table is cool, regardless of gender.
Oh wow, that's awesome!
Winrar! =D
The Transformers will be pleased.
ummm...wow. that is crazy.
Size-modding an actual NES controller isn't that hard. Making it Wii VC ready is a more difficult, but it's still pretty cool!
Despite the difficulty of hitting A+B at the same time without adding a foot (or two) to handle it, the biggest difficulty would be keep my cats off it while I'm playing a NES game. I can see getting killed in Metal Gear when one of them pounces on the A button while I'm sneaking around.
Almost useless but still kick-ass!
@SAKY: Almost but not entirely.
sweet.
@Rabidsquirrel: Yeah, I saw that episode too. I thought him and Kevin Pereira like competed at Track and Field using that controller and a regular one, to see who would win..
And he has a working Nintendo too! I can't help focusing more on that than the conroller table.
I have 5 NES machines, and they all just blink at me. >_<
Damn that thing is about as big as the original xbox controller. :P I'd be scared to use that as a coffee table for fear of spilling. This thing is pretty awesome though, good conversation starter.
Sorry for double post, but this chick has +10 points in my book. Gaming and a fan of the Doors! My dream girl.
@mackincheese: actually i think that was a different episode. Pereira was using a penny sized controller they made and Chris Gore was using the huge one on track and field lol good times
@Word Man: Be cautious! She may just be a fan of trendy pop culture. You'd have to quiz her first before attacking her pants, just to make sure.
Oh god...just spilled my Mountain Dew all over my 10,000 dollar coffee table! Time for a second mortgage.
For that we could just shout JUSTIN BAILEY to see if she obeys and skims down to a bikini.
I was sure that said "nice groin"
@brooza:
lmao I guess I wasnt the only one!
I read it that wasy aswell and quickly looked the picture "wait I dont get it?"
*epic fail*
