When war broke out between the world's two main superpowers, the Guylos Empire and the Republic of Helic, the effects rippled across the globe, dragging other nations into the fight. Two such nations were Maroll and Jamil.During the war, Maroll's attacks on the neighboring Jamil were devastating, and even a decade after the war had ended, Jamil's economy and infrastructure hadn't fully recovered. Animosity, paranoia, and mutual mistrust between the two nations hindered their ability to find a common ground and complete their peace talks. For ten long years, the two nations found themselves in the middle of a cold war.
After a mysterious explosion at one of Maroll's military bases, two covert ops teams are sent into Jamil territory, their exact mission details never disclosed. Somehow, the events of the present are inextricably linked to the past—to the final days of the war, ten years ago...

April Fool's was a month and 12 days ago, no?
@White-Sharingan: End quote in the video is money: "What the hell just happened?" Sums up my sentiments exactly.
eh? no thank you.
weird decision, i thought zoids were big in japan, so why make it 360 specific? ah, well. it shud be interesting how this turns out since i am a fan of the series. wonder which zoids series they r using
Wait. Oh buy must remain calm.
Are these the people that made Ogre Battle 64!!!???? Please, please please, please, please.... God I love that game.
I've never played an Atlus SRPG that I didn't enjoy, count me in.
This seems a little late. I mean Zoids stopped being popular in the states like a year or two ago no?
There aren't enough games about the wars between the Monicans and the Bregnans
I'll never understand why Atlus has chosen the 360 as their platform of choice this generation. It defies all logic and reasoning as far as I can tell.
Interesting. Never heard of this series. So you aren't controlling them like Mechs, right? Those are just cutscenes in battle like in a turn-based JRPG or something?
I'm happy and confused, to finally see another zoids game localized.
Confused, because...why this one?
I assumed if it ever happened, it would be another of the action titles. Although I guess they could be trying something new to start all over, or something like that.
This summer is shaping up to be quite a good one.
I love the fact that Atlus is supporting the 360. I already plan on buying Spectral Force 3, and I am really excited for this.
I am shocked that they're supporting the 360 so much, but I'm really pleased.
Things are getting very interesting.
:( Atlus...
@Strange Bedfellows:Easy, it's got a larger install base then the PS3, easier to code for, etc. It's quite logical, but not if your going by fanboy logic.
@ArmyofJuan:Just because it's not on Cartoon Network does not mean it's not still popular. Zoids has been around from the 80's.
That said, the last Zoids games for the 360 were so shitty as to cause pain, so i'll have to rent this first.
@Strange Bedfellows:
on the PS platform the weird/"different" RPG's they like to bring over from Japan will be competeing against Squares FF, KH, etc. With the 360 maybe they're trying to reach an audience that want JRPG's but only have 360's(though the 360 has been getting some JRPG love lately)
ill wait for a review/demo of the game if its good ill definetly support Atlus.
Um, because it will make them money? I agree, it seems strange, but non-first party exclusives make even less sense and we still have those.
I hope an up to date Front Mission is in our near futures. I just plain like that series, despite the flaws or tinkerings.
Which am I going to be spending my cash on??
Zoids or Gears 2???
Ehhh...that's a tough one ;)
@DaPress: jajaja i didnt get what you were saying but just saw the trailer till the end and ROFL
Intereasting... but why is everything is the shape of a cat?
@Foxstar Sixtail:
And yet nobody in Japan, the primary (really, the ONLY) market for this game, has one. There's not much of a point in making a 360 exclusive licensed game when the people who buy into the license don't even have the system.
@Foxstar Sixtail:
yea but it's just odd that they would pick zoids. I mean i don't know who they are trying to target with this game, Atlus fans or Zoids fans. I'll go with Atlus fans since every zoid fan has moved onto whatever current popular anime kids show is out now
Wasn't Zoids the anime series that used to be on Cartoon Network, the one with Liger Zero. If this is based on that, then I am definetly intruiged.
@Foxstar Sixtail: 360 does not have a larger install base in Japan where this game will matter most.
@Archaotic: Except...maybe...to sell the system?
+ Watch video
@Archaotic: exactly. The only people who will spend money on this game are Japanese and anime nerds. Japanese all have PS3's, and anime nerd have PS3's because the Japanese do and therefore the games they want will come out on the PS3.(I'm one such nerd. This game will fail because it is liscensed
@Foxstar Sixtail: Not fanboy logic. It's just that I always saw Atlus' U.S. releases as an afterthought. They never gave us time of day. It was all about Japan, and we just happened to be fortunate enough to get a translation after a year or two. Xbox 360 is not popular in Japan. That's where my confusion comes from. Perhaps the genre they work in has reached a point where the games are more popular in America than Japan now, and so they're doing them with America firmly implanted in the mind from conception? I don't know. But they definitely seem to have chosen 360 despite Japanese tendency. Thus my bewilderment. Something is afoot that I am personally unaware of. Must relate to cost of development or licensing or something. Because I see no reason why they wouldn't have just as much chance of reaching high sales releasing their games on the PS3 as the 360. The PS3 has a nice sized install base, you know. And it's growing much more rapidly than the 360's. And the PS3 base is clamoring for RPGs and SRPGs. I just get the feeling that they're ignoring a lot of factors in favor some things that I'm personally unable to grasp.
@Mikey G:
The what? A liger? I.. wow... ok there's no way I can play this game now unless its absolutetly mind blowing and revolutionary.
@Spartan1308:
im not positive but i think this games already out in japan and the press release is for the US release
*intrigued* Sorry 'bout that one.
[img152.imageshack.us]
HAHAHAHAHA! Yeah. We totally need a game based on these guys.
Although I always really liked the cockpits for these the best. Plus they came with a sweet unposeable little gold painted dude that would rattle around in there when the zoid was walking.
I hope they make sure to include that feature in the game. Also I want to make sure to have to wind up my Zoids every few seconds. It would also be super awesome if those little black eraser things that hold the Zoids together would pop off all the time so your Zoid would collapse in a twitchy heap of sad plastic gears.
Oh baby. I'm pre-ordering this shit RIGHT NOW.
You guys realize that the Atlus we know of is simply a publisher in the states right?
Microsoft is desperately trying to get the Japanese to buy a 360 huh? They've plunked down so much cash and are still failing terribly there. How many RPG's does it take for it to be viable?
Cmon, can't we get a Zoids action RPG? How dissapointing.
Does this mean that there might be a slight chance we could see "next-gen" (shouldn't we start using current gen now?) Shin Megami Tensei games on the 360? God, I hope so.
@Morberis: Well that's what I remember about it. I can't say that I followed the series, or if in fact this is even the same Zoids that I'm thinking about.
All I know is it is a strategy game with giant customizable robots. I am in.
Why did I read "enormous breasts of steel"? ._.
@karasu is my homeboy: I'm thinking about Spectral Force 3, but I dunno if I'm going to get Operation Darkness AND SF3. And Operation Darkness is a definite.
Atlus is definitely showing love for strategy fans.
I don't want Zoids, just hurry up and release Operation Darkness already Atlus.
@Lyrai:
If you think a Japanese person is going to be swayed to buy a 360 because of a Zoids game when even Gundam couldn't coerce them, well...that's a little naive, no?
@Morberis:
it's a liger, it's known for it's skills in magic
@solar_tf: The Japanese do love mechanical cat girls :)
I loved ZOIDS. At least, Zero and Chaotic Century... Didn't care much for Fuzors, and never saw much of Genesis...
A friend of mine had the GameCube ZOIDS game. It was a bit fun, but mostly frustrating (and didn't even have the voice actors from the show...). So, I may rent this (once I get a 360...).
@Strange Bedfellows: It's already been said, but ease of programming, and lower royalty rates (a Nikkei article supposedly claimed a 7% royalty vs 15% on PS3 games. Maybe someone has a link) definitely make things easier for devs. When you look at sales figures of minor games, I don't think the idea is that far-fetched: some of these games move maybe 100k copies, and depending on costs for the port, expertise on making such ports (with a small team w/o perhaps the necessary equipment), etc etc. it may be smarter to go with the underdog after all.
Agarest Chronicles for the PS3 moved only about 20k copies, and many of the lesser-known releases have been about as equally fortunate; in an ideal world all the world's devs will have money to swim in and make whatever features available to all consoles, but real-world limitations mean that's not always possible.
@Strange Bedfellows: It's simple ... they chose the 360 because they publish in the US, and the 360 has a bigger install base here -- as well, it's probably a much cheaper license for them to get, so they can make more of a profit. Atlus USA is very shrewd in this market -- that's why they can keep going while so many small publishers have died.
@pd771: I am an "anime nerd" and I have a 360. So while it makes sense to say Japanese gamers don't buy the 360 in masses, you can't really decide a whole group of people scattered throughout the world have all decided on the PS3. Because that is not so. An acquaintance of mine is a bigger anime fan than me and he too chose the 360. Microsoft has diversified their library enough with games like Lost Odyssey or Infinite Undiscovery, you don't need a PS3 to get Japanese style games anymore. Not to mention licenses usually get whored out everywhere, like Naruto, and often the most interesting anime games don't get released outside of Japan. Enjoying anime series doesn't really have a direct influence on what game system you like.
@ArmyofJuan: Atlus is striving to make a lot of interesting SRPGs on the 360. They have Spectral Force, they thought out of the box with Operation Darkness, and they probably decided the next best step to keep the variation going was a mech SRPG. Instead of going generic, basing it on Zoids would attract Zoid fans, SRPG fans and mech fans. It's kinda a win/win/win.
@ElijahDProphet: Thank you, for you just proved my point. Non Zoid fans will even give this a look, so the fact that it's based on Zoids doesn't narrow it down, it only widens it's appeal.
I used to like Zoids in 1985 or so. I didn't realize they were still around.
Dude, I fucking love Zoids, this is amazing.
