The latest batch of video game ratings by the ESRB reveals a listing for Konami's classic RPG Suikoden that may indicate the title is destined for a PlayStation Store re-release. Suikoden is rated as released—or to be released—for both the PlayStation 3 and PSP, as with other PSN releases. We don't know when it's coming—PS One Classic releases are few and far between in North America—but it's most likely coming. You may be able to secure a hard copy for the standard asking price in the meantime anyway, so act accordingly.

That game is good ole nostalgic times. And I thought they were still good at least through 3, which is the last one I played. The multiple perspective story of 3 is one of the best things I can remember from a game, under recognized.
I bought the original brand new and sealed quite a few years ago off of eBay. But I'm still excited about this news.
Suikoden on my PSP = win.
That's frigging awesome. Let's hope that the eBay treasure trove Suikoden II comes too. ;)
Oh hail yeah. I'd snap this and SII up in a heartbeat.
Now, to get a PS3...
@perrinbar: Play 5 too, you'll really enjoy it if you liked the first 3. 5 is my favorite, with 2 closely behind it.
I have all five Suikoden in their original form. Now, they just need to release Suikoden 2 because that's the actual rare one
Buying this day one, I don't care if I already have it. This game deserves the sales, it deserves the exposure, and it deserves to be bought so Konami and Sony bring Suikoden II to the Store next!
This is what the Playstation Store needs more of, classic PSone RPGs. Hope it comes in the next month.
Don't hard copies of Suikoden go for insane prices though? This seems like very good news for say, someone who is cheap like me =P
Anyway. Hopefully it comes to the NA/Europe PSN.
Snazzy! I'm quite the fan of the normal Suikoden RPG games, (no Card Stories or Tactics for me though, sorry...>__>)--and this adds to the slowly growing list of things that will eventually make me buy the PS3...
*Crosses his fingers for II.*
Best news I've ever heard.
Bring back Xenogears too!
Cool, I've never played any of them before.
@Tiberian:
Suikoden II goes for like $80 on eBay. And that's used copies. Factory sealed copies are just insane.
I is a little easier to find. A little.
I can't wait to put this on my PSP. Best news of the day.
@Quark:
Agreed!
Suikoden 4 was terrible, but as a huge fan of 1&2, I must insist that despite a sometime annoying gameplay and long load times, the story in Suikoden 5 is fantastic.
As a matter of fact, I was just about to load it into my PS2.
On topic: Suikoden 1 and/or 2 on the PSP is a system seller for me.
OK, I have to try Suikoden.
@Ratuna:
Absolutly!
Hey thats a nice addition. There are already 2 great games on the classics list that i bought (castlevania SOTN, and wildarms) and now suikoden. Things just keep getting better with these classics. bring more please
To me, the only truly bad game in the series was 4. But even I enjoyed it a little...just for the fact that I love water and Ted is recruitable.
Ah, Ted. Best mage in the game.
All of these re-releases are coming but why aren't they here!
So they just sold me a PS3.
hehe..I mentioned this early morning in the PSN indie thread.That was unusual timing.
Actually here is what I typed this morning,so a sample of what else is to come:
The whole PS1 title thing is a bit complicated.Contacting publishers,rights,fees then you have the QA testing or you have the mess that was Spyro the Dragon.There are quite a bit of titles in the pipeline apparently.
Suidoken,Rayman,Vib Ribbon,Wipeout XL,Pandemonium,Castlevania Chronicles,etc (nothing I really care about playing myself)
@enewtabie: Castlevania Chronicles eh? Could always use another Castlevania remake. I haven't played that one to the fullest myself.
Somehow my copy of Suikoden disappeared over the course of a few moves. Now I may actually have a chance to save Gremio!
This is the best news in months! Here's hoping for Suikoden II!
@Saint Anima:
Some of that list is split between SCEA/EE.
I played through the Suikoden series recently for the umpteenth time, so I probably won't play this one. I'll definitely buy it to support Konami though.
@Saint Anima: Castlevania Chronicles is really not all that good at all in my opinion (don't let it's rarity tempt you!). It along with Haunted Castle, Castlevania Adventure and Legends are probably all best forgotten.
@futurebiblehero: all that good in my opinion, I mean. My god I'm poor at multi-tasking.
@futurebiblehero: Ah, good to know. My inner Vania Fanboy wants me to beat most of the games in the series, but I guess since I beat the NES version and Super Castlevania...I can skip this one.
Holy shit yeah !
So this is how Sony gets around to releasing Suikoden on the PSP without having to port over the game that was released in Japan earlier last year.
Crafty Sony, getting everyone to pay for two games when they could easily translate the PSP game and release it as a bundle in the US and UK...
Excited.
But I want Suikoden 2 more. So much.
If they bring Suikoden, they may bring Suikoden II. I'll probably end up buying both, if they do.
Here's hoping at Xenogears.
Wow this is weird, I just finished Suikoden for the first time on my original PSX minutes ago.
Very good game! I really feel like maxing out all 108 chars, but then I wouldn't have the time for Bioshock, Skies of Arcadia and Digital Devil Saga, which are next on my "todo" list.
Well, at least I have something to do until they release Suikoden 2!
I own both suikoden I and II psx originals... opened but in great condition... and no i'm not selling them, i'm just bragging.
i've been thinkin alot about getting a Soul Eater tattoo on my left wrist. i'm a nurse though so it may not go over too well unless i wear a wrist band all the time >.>
@Kiriphii: What are you smoking? The Suikoden psp game is in japanese. Sony will have to localize it if they want to release that UMD to the west.
By re-releasing the game on PSN, they won't have to localize UMD compilation, and they won't have to force you to buy both games if you only wanted one.
Probably the few games where Gamefaqs was a must.
Gotta catch'em all.
I have the PS1 Original and I can't recommend it enough. All RPG fans should definitely buy this. It is almost as good as Suikoden II which is one my favorite rpgs.
Awesome! Now if they would just get around to porting all of the other classic RPGs that were available for the PS1 that we all loved so much.
FF 1-9/Tactics, Chrono cross/trigger, Breath of fire 3/4, Xenogears gears,
Vagrant Story, The Legend of Dragoon, Suikoden 2, Dragon Quest, Grandia, ect...
That would be full epic win and probably the cheapest thing that they could do to increase PS3 sales per $ spent.
And if they spent some extra $ on securing rights to port classic games that were never even on the Playstation platform in the first place like all the ones available on virtual console.
So much potential.
Oh.
My.
God.
Yes. YES!
YESSSS!!!
THERE IS A GOD!!!! AND HE LOVES THE PSP!!
This and 2 are my favorite RPGs EVER, EVER, FUCKING EVER.
*Craps pants*
Thank you oh mighty gods.
2 and 3 are my favorites. I'll wait until they come to the PSN.
Suikoden 2 is the best RPG ever, and Suikoden 1 is almost as good. Great series.
sweet, can't wait till suikoden 2 comes out again!
I actually have a sealed copy of Suikoden 2. I bought it a long time ago and never got around to playing it. How much does it go for?
@VishusBurn: What sucks is that Square-Enix said that they would never put their old games on PSN/VC/XBLA because they don't see the point (or something like that) and would instead remake/port them to PSP or DS. I don't see why they can't do both. It's not like they don't have the money or manpower.
@Placentasaurus: Forgot to say: Square-Enix won't actually give us what we want (HD 2D Chrono Trigger Remake, or Chrono sequel, or new Actraiser) because those sadistic bastards love watching us suffer.
This is the one game from the Suikoden series that I don't own. If this doesn't get announced for Europe (fat chance, given SCEE's history of PSN ps1 games) I'll be "importing" it from the US PSN store.
This is the best news this month!
I am always happy to see Suikoden get some love.
Hopefully this is a sign that the series still has some life even after Suikoden V's poor performance.
Of course it would help to get back more of the folks who made 2 and 3, and actually move the series forward.
SWEET.
I just got a copy of the original Suikoden off of ebay last month.. About to beat it again. This game is probably one of my favorites. Good to see it's getting revived possibly!
they should rather release the suikoden 1 + 2 in the psp rather a port of psx game!
anyways
/Suikoden is rated as released-or to be released-for both the PlayStation 3 and PSP/
nice. i wonder when will suikoden 6 come out
Well, with a grand total of 3 games I'd like to play on it now, I guess I'll be getting a PS3 after all. In the meantime though, PSP will suffice for getting my Suiko on.
@Placentasaurus:
Here's my take on it.
Square Enix not only recognizes and acknowledges that digital copies have no monetary value, but also believe that they lose some of their original mystique and exclusiveness once the customer realizes that fact, and don't wish to risk devaluing there classic intellectual property in light of the fact that the fan popularity of there new releases has been in a decline since they merged and became Square Enix.
If that is the case; then I think that they fail to realize that we would actually be very satisfied with digital versions and re-releases would only make us more enthusiastic about new RPGs from them.(just so long as they can make good ones again)
I could be wrong though.
Why are they so slow on PS1 games? It's not like PS3 has enough games, adding PS1 games could definitely push sales of PS3.
The Japanese store's got shit loads of PS1 games...
I don't get why Sony don't make PSN a point system like 360 so you can buy games from stores from different country. Or simply unlock that "Country" selectability when entering your credit card billing info...
PSN point card being country locked is the stupidest thing btw...
There are classic fighting games, shooting games or music games that there has no language barrier.
It's good that atleast SOMETHINGS are coming out, but the US PSN lineup for PS1 totally sux.
I'll stop playing GTA for this :)
That's awesome news! I hope Suikoden II will not be that far!
@Dir_en_grey:
Looks like you has a language barrier thou. Lulz, I keed, I keed.
I would abhor it if Sony went to a retarded point system. Despite what Sony PR has claimed, the pricing isn't the thing that is keeping content region locked. Its easy to convert currency.
That doesn't explain why they have been doing such a shitty job with the whole region thing, so I'm left scratchy my head wondering why along with you on that one.
@Playstation:
By the time this is released you will probably be done and bored with GTA anyway.
The real question is if you will stop playing MGS4 or LBP of something like that for this.
@PaleDim: Same here man.
Even though I have this, I'm still going to buy it, along with II if they do that, though I have every suikoden game to date. Gotta say that III was the worse one I thought they killed the story a little, but who couldn't tell who the masked man was, so obvious. IV brought it back to the original style of suikoden, haven't beaten V yet.
100% I, II, and IV. Will definitely support this!
@Tiberian: ...why not just hope that it comes to ALL PSNs..?
Now if it only was a game I haven't played to death already.
Still, it's a good sign in my book that at least Konami is testing the waters of the American PSN. The Japanese one has all kinds of fantastic stuff on there.
Here's what I want to see REALLY bad, some of it already on the J-PSN, i.e. very possible to do in the US:
MGS (before june 12th, PLEASE)
Resident Evil 1-3
Alundra (Who owns the right to this in the US at the moment anyway)
Mega Man Legends 1+2
At 5.99, I'd buy every one of these TWICE.
[www.rpgdreamers.com]
Worst.North.American.Cover.Art....EVER
as seen above.
I remember ditching the double disc case the SINGLE CD bame in and making the much better instrucion book art (see side) as the cover.
It's good to see a great RPG (which I have yet to finish) get rereleased (sadly on two systems I don't own.)
Oh well I'll just finish it on my PS2....eventually.
@maxax:
Wow dude. I hadn't heard of that Alundra game before, but I just watched some gameplay [www.gametrailers.com] and now I really wish I had.
I looks awesome. Like PS1's answer to Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, but better.
Oh hell yes. Im buying this day one. This will be my first PSS purchase. I hope that this spurs on Suikoden II and maybe some xenogears
