Javier Segovia's a digital artist from Spain. Guy loves him some industrial concept design. This is his vision of an updated, redesigned Nintendo Entertainment System. He calls it reNESED. Not that Nintendo would ever bother releasing such a thing, but hey, if they did, it could look a lot worse than this simply pretty great design.

Those controllers look like chocolate bars
What's with those red stripes? And that blue light with the red buttons? I don't really see how this would be an improvement, honestly.
@Grave: I think they're throwing in a touch of Famicon to the concept mix. I personally think this looks really nice.
That looks very sexy! Personally I love the red on black contrasting each other.
I'm not seeing anywhere for the cartridge to go in. Very pretty, though.
meh, who cares how it looks, just as long as i don't constantly need to blow into the thing and fiddle with it to get a game working.
those controllers are f'ing amazing tho.
The red bars on the side of the controller flip down underneath, for better grip, j/k lol
I'm still waiting for the Phantom video game system.
Hot shit it is. Amazing how good custom designs often look. Gaming companys should handle it like Apple. Fly those guys in and let them design it.
Does look like a far more art-wanky version the Generation NEX, which does have a NES cartridge slot and doesn't need blowing in.
I do actually like it, but it's not as nice as the original, and those controllers look like a recipe for blisters...
What a lovely NES! I'd like to see what this artist would do with the Famicom's off-white and crimson colour scheme.
Controllers use IDE cables? Oo
Where do I slap the cartridge in?!
And why is the power light blue, and not red?
Other than that, great stuff
This would make a great special edition Wii.
@Master Saji: @MechaTama31: The NES had a flip lid for the cartridge slot...that's how we rolled in the 80s
anywho, this looks purty, would love one.
That looks sweet.
Nintendo should take advantage of Retro while its hot.
The Camaro, the Mustang, the Charger; all going to be retro & hot.
RETRO'S BACK BABY!
Wii 2, Retro FTW!
That thing looks awesome. Sadly, I never have seen a NES in real life, so I do hope there is a re-release some day.
Pretty, but man, those buttons look painful.
@MrPerson: Have you tried using an NES controller lately? They're not what you'd call "ergonomic."
@elronathon: Damn right.
Looks totally sick. Now for an SNES one....
@elronathon:
yeah, i think that was the problem they were noting. the concept drawings are rather superficial in that they don't show how the lid would fit in that design. it leaves us to guess it would be in the normal spot and have the normal shape, but it should have been included, and could have been a place to be creative.
sexeh
Instantaneous semen EVERYWHERE!
Would it be awesome if this reNESED came with all the game preloaded onto it? If it retailed for say 150 bucks or so I would be game to buy it
Where are you supposed to insert the games?
@munchausen: ah yeah, fair point - there does seem to be a lack of a hinge :)
It's no Famicom.
I still think the top-down is wtfpwnage. Possibly eclipsing the original blow-a-thon.
@Fyren: @Fyren:
noooo top down loader was a joke of the SNES version. didn't look anything like it should.
NES front loader is the only way to go for purists.
but i guess it depends on taste.
and you can get your pin connecter replaced so you know it can play games, since the metal goes bad in there after 20+ years
I like the use of square buttons, I don't know if that's just the designers taste or if it's a reference to the original square buttoned Famicom.
Ugh. It looks like NES's greasy haired self-cutting teenage cousin.
Now I need to go wash my eyes out. Thanks for nothing Mr Segovia...
Looks awesome to me.
there is already a revamped NES with wireless controllers.. how about you publish that instead?
I like it although the lights on the console should be backlit red, not blue.
I like the design. Elegant use of red.
Ugly!!
@FullTimeGamer:
Gorgeous.
I like it too :P
Square A and B buttons!?
Non, gracias. Everything else, top notch.
wow. i'd buy that. i'd buy two of those.
@frostcircus:
They look like LEGO chocolate bars. Why redesign a fairly attractive system to start with but keep its razor sharp, had destroying controllers intact? Especially when there are more comfortable NES controller versions available.
I really dislike this design. It looks stupid :P
Square buttons are a very poor choice, much like egg-shaped beveled ones were on the original Xbox, but it's quite classy looking otherwise. I'd buy it.
(Well, I'd buy it if I didn't sell my collection of 300+ Nintendo games in order to pay bills. Oh god. It's 10 in the morning and I think I'm going to need a drink).
I would pay a hundred buck to have that and just play emulated games. Hell that would be cool to have a console that you play the OG games on I don't need any fancy graphics or motion shit.
I'll take that with lots of storage
wifi
and the abilitly to share the games onto my DS
I'll bet we could oss some internet on this and it would still be super cheap.
Any one else down?
@Ultraorange: A modded Xbox will get you most of that, but I admit that it doesn't look half as cool.
@Spadgy: all that, plus the fact that the generation nex actually exists, and this is just some concept rendering that'll never see the light of day.
What's all the extra space for, making paninis? There are cell phones available more powerful than the NES.
I shed a tear looking at that picture.
@Jonn: IDEA: Cell phone, with NES, connects to TV. Wireless controllers.
@Elrinth: I was just about to say, I wonder if anyone else notices the wireless controllers? Did not know they already had another design of the NES with wireless controllers, thats pretty cool.
@frostcircus: They look like Wonka Bars, to be exact.
I like it.
I like the red.
The controllers are okay. I'm sure they aren't comfortable but the original controllers weren't either.
I've seen some people dissing the top-loader NES. Why? It's still an NES. So what if it isn't the finicky, flashing front loader. I have one of each. The top loader works like a charm. The front loader is leaned against the wall (along with a Master System) and no longer works.
I had the flashing screen. Ordered the pin connector to repair it. While waiting on the connector to be delivered, one of the cats decided to pee on the NES. I get the connector and realize the feline urine issue. Take it apart, clean it up the best I can, replace the connector, put it all back together... and it still won't work.
I'm hoping the controllers are wireless, they need to be changed to the dogbone controllers that came with the top loader.
@Eltigro:
People diss the top loader because they dropped the A/V inputs so you were stuck with RF. So it has the better cart plug, but crappier output unless you mod it. Pointy corners on buttons is bad though. Otherwise it pretty much lookes like G'Nex as others have mentioned.
Gimme that as a computer case.
HotER shit.
Very cool redesign...I want a real one...
I'd buy a NES redesign when Nintendo releases it with a memory chip that contains ALL NES games ever released! ;p
My first thought on seeing this was that they should make a Wii colored like that, or similarly. I never realized how close the design is to the original NES until now. Just place the system on its side, put the disc tray right on the seam on the front...it'd be one sexy system. Plus, maybe if they made it the same size as the original NES, they could fit a decent-sized HARD DRIVE into it!
I do so love how small the Wii is though.
