This is exactly why we can't have nice release dates. A webshots user named pallamallawa has uploaded six images of what look to be the map insert for the PlayStation 3 version of Grand Theft Auto IV. Images include the city itself, complete with descriptions of various locales, the Liberty City subway map, and the controller map for the PS3. It's about as New York as you can get without actually being in New York. Everything looks rather official, though I'm going to go ahead and rumor tag this pending some sort of official confirmation. It's not that we don't trust the internet, it's just...okay, we don't trust the internet.
GTA IV Map for PS3 [webshots - Thanks SUP3R!]

Damn that's a big area.
Looks like "my" subway line is one it.
This isn't spoiling it tho. If anything, it's advertising it...for me anyways.
And just like that...it's gone.
Oooooooooo
Looks real..How in the hell do you get a copy so early?
Release is still a month away right?
It looks very genuine to me. Not as big as I was hoping though.
I'm difficult to please though.
@enewtabie: The last several months have only been polishing though, I'm sure. Seeing as how it was originally slated to be released long ago, I'm sure they had these details worked out long ago.
@enewtabie:

Maybe knows someone at a printing/packaging/manufacturing plant?
I never cared much for GTA, but I'm a little excited about this one. Maybe it's cuz I'm a graphics whore and like anything new & shiny.
That is sooo Cool :D
The internet gives me free candy.
I trust it.
That map looks sweet.
Heh... "Statue of Happiness"...
Definitely real. R* has been locking down all the copies - including the original photobucket. I wish I could read the 'Getting Around Liberty City' section.
It's not you, Interweb, it's 4chan.
Call me a noob, but R1 is mapped for Enter/Exit Cover...??
GTA4 has a cover system?
@aldo_14:
Yeah that hit me after I thought about it.
@blackadvent: rule 2
Holy inferiority complex batman!
@geoffcbassett: Rule 1.
Come on, that is real.
I was trying to make out the controls but it's tough. That should shed some light on things in terms of new gameplay features. Hopefully someone will zoom and decipher soon because I just don't feel like it.
@3xch4ng3: Yeah, that broke a long time ago. Pretty sweet, eh?
I love how NJ was represented instead of Staten Island. I'm not crazy about the name Alderney though. How about something with "New" in the name so people unfamiliar with the Metro area know what it is?
Jersey pride.
Awesome.
I'm so glad those ridiculously large terrain expanses between the cities in San Andreas won't be making a comeback. That was the icing on the cake of reasons why I hated that game.
How the hell did he get this? It has already been deleted from the database!!
@njhardcoreguy: I guess the developers wanted a place where they can drop acres of oil tanks.
@KindaGamey: I think it says:
Everyone is on the move in Liberty City and getting around is not for the faint-hearted. Served by five bridges, a sophisticated subway system and the best taxi service in the world, there are many of ways to get from A to B. Tours by helicopter and boat are also available for those wishing to take in the most historic parts of the city such as Middle Park or Happiness Island. For those wanting to drive everywhere, countless vehicles are there for the taking on the streets of Liberty City. By land, air or water, you will find a solution to beat the rush-hour traffic.
@3xch4ng3: They revamped everything from driving to shooting to fighting. Check out IGN's many preview, and don't choke because of the water that will flow into your mouth. ;)
@3xch4ng3: Yea man, that's been a key advancement for them. How it's supposed to feel way more like a shooter than the previous GTA games.
Plus, you still get all the hooker action and blowing the shit out of stuff...but you can hide behind things when it happens now! Although you probably wouldn't want to take cover when with one of the hookers, or...*drifts off*...
Never really been into GTA,but I think I might get this.I wanna visit Jersey/Atlantic City.
@M.O.D.O.K.: Wow. Didn't expect a comment like that. So original.
At least make an witty joke about NJ, some some overused cliche.
I'm impressed with the size of the city. I hope you can explore it all from the start this time - it will be a bit stupid if the bridges are down AGAIN!
@njhardcoreguy: *not some
Rockstar will be pissed with you Kotaku. Thankfully I have seen it now :D Nice work!
@njhardcoreguy: What's with the self-service gas stations though? Did NJ enter the 21st century whenI wasn't looking?
My biggest fear about this game is the humor. GTA III was funny and it's been downhill from there. More funny, less serious is good, and in the previous, it's looking like this is more serious.
How they're doing an area this large with 1 disk and no install I have no idea.
I hope the online play is harddrive only!
How they are doing an area this large with 1 disk and no install I have no idea...
I hope the online play requires an install Burnout style!
@kingclip: I know what you mean. It depends if they nail the "serious" feel though. If they do then great, if not then I wish they went for the easier humor option.
@Mike Fahey: We've never pumped our own gas. It's against the law here. When I moved to LA, I had no idea how to use the pump.
@flukielukie:
I doubt it..It's great advertising in a way.Get's more people hyped up and then you have it all over the news.
The map looks pretty good to me. A good size on par with San Andreas it seems and much more substance.
GTA IV will be awesome. Hopefully it's going to please the people skeptical of the franchise and earn their respect.
Regardless, I'm going to love it.
@njhardcoreguy: Yay for Jersey pride!
This game is gonna be really fun, at the least. Just hope it all runs smoothly in the end. Looks like a pretty decently sized area.
@Mike Fahey: That is what I was wondering. So you can pump your own gas now? Wow. I hope they still have shitty Roy Rogers all along the turnpike.
So...
Manhattan = Algonquin
Brooklyn = Broker
Queens = Dukes
Bronx = Bohan
New Jersey = Alderney
The only two that make immediate sense are "Broker" and "Dukes", is there significance in the other names?
I hope Bohan isn't all just one big South Bronx area, that would suck.
Jersey sucks
Kidding!
@IronsUK:
The bridges are down due to a terrorist threat. That news broke about a month ago. While I'm not keen on unlocking the city either that reason at least fits with the setting.
@njhardcoreguy: Oh I know, I grew up in Phili. I was just puzzling over the fact that the description for the NJ substitute says "Self-Service Gas Stations." Think they meant full-service?
The first time I returned to NJ once I could drive I spent 20 minutes looking for a gas station I could pump my own gas at. People looked at me as if I was insane.
@ckranger11:
Didn't they buy it from the Native Americans..I have no idear.
@ckranger11: All match number of syllables. Well, THE Bronx does.
@ckranger11:
Alconguin is a tip to the original settlers that the Dutch bought NYC's land from. There are other references to the Dutch as well like "Rotterdamn Tower".
@kingclip: Wow, are you kidding? Those parody commercials in GTA3 were so lame they made me want to shoot myself. Leave the comedy to comedians (comedians that aren't Andy Dick).
@ProfWho: *chokes on Roy Rogers reference*
@njhardcoreguy: Well apperantly it is dangerous for you people to pump your own gas
[www.thedailyshow.com]
@Mike Fahey: Yeah, Rockstar screwed up on that then. Hopefully they can make the change before the final release. Not that it affects the game, but with their budget and delays, this thing should be error-free.
P.S. Mets > Phillies
Wow that looks big, now I want to play.
@BigWeather:
Haha I meant "Algonquin". How insensitive of me. =)
I was pumping gas down here in NC last month and an elderly woman asked me if I could pump her gas. I immediately thought she meant "pay for" but she literally meant that she'd pay and I pump -- she was a long-term NJ resident that drove out of state for the first time to visit her granddaughter in NC (yeah, we have a lot of transplants -- and had no idea how to do it.
I figured that was alright, since I do my darnedest not to stop in Jersey for gas because I feel very uncomfortable having someone else do my job.
@Recury: I don't remember the GTA3 ads/parodies in particular, but I know I liked a lot of the radio on Vice City, San Andreas, and even Saints Row.
@njhardcoreguy:
How about this courtesy of Busted Tee's:
Jersey girls ain't trash...
(Trash gets picked up.)
Just Kidding, Jersey and its inhabitants are cool with me.
This is the biggest story of all time. I love it!
@ckranger11: Oops, I meant San Andreas.
