Electronic Arts CEO John Riccitiello has been dropping some none-too-subtle hints that the company is interested in another Road Rash. He name-checked the bloody motorcycle racing classic at DICE during his talk and recently in a GameDaily interview in an attempt to, we assume, get gamers misty-eyed with nostalgia for the franchise. Well, it appears someone may have let the cat out of the bag a bit early. That person? Skid Row's Sebastian Bach. Oh, I'm quite serious.
He let slip in a recent interview with the Classic Metal Show that he had just recently licensed one of his tracks to the game. Well, he comes close enough for us to get a bit excited, saying of the tune "You Don't Understand" from his recent album "It's a super heavy song. That just got picked up for some video game, Road Rage or Road Rash, or something like that." Obviously, Bach is not a die hard gamer.
It wouldn't be the first time an aging musical outfit had peeped when they maybe shouldn't have. Queens of the Stone Age and Aerosmith both pre-announced some news last year about Rock Band and a pair of Guitar Hero games. We're just guessing that Bach doesn't know that publishers like to keep these things under wraps until the very last second.
We've contacted sources at EA for clarification on the rumor, but they have yet to get back to us.
Thanks for the heads up, Dave.
Update: EA got back to us with the following statement: "Though CEO John Riccitiello has recently mentioned it as a classic, beloved EA franchise, Road Rash is not currently in development." Is Sebastian Bach just confused or a dirty, dirty liar?

Come on EA, nothing fancy, just ass whoopin' on bikes.
That's all I'm asking for.
Sweet! It's about time!
I played the hell out of all 3 Road Rash games on the Genesis/Mega Drive. They could pull it off, but for some reason I doubt that will happen.
Road Rash! Been a long time. Last one I played was on Sega Saturn. Heh, I remember the loading screen with the dude that drilled holes into the women's restroom door. Good times.
This is one of my favorite games ever. hopefuly this is true and EA doesn't screw it up
Can't wait!
A new Road Rash would totally fock my socks off.
Yes, please?
I've owned every version, even the disappointing Nintendo 64 version (which I still loved regardless of quality). It's as fun as Mario Kart without the shells and more lead pipes to the head. Always a pleaser.
Awesome!
please be rated M. If they make this tame it's all over.
ROAD RASH!!! ARRRRGGGG!!!! I forgot ea made that....I will unfortunately have to pass given that I am not happy with ea....
ohh please let criterion make this
I loved this game on PS1, then it kept freezing on me everytime I would ride on a Stiletto.
this game is gonna kill...
killed on the 64, will kill on 360?
When we're not trying to takeover everything, we're rehashing classics.
Way to go EA!
I remember Road Rash for the playstation, good friggen times.
I remember the enjoyment of beating a cop off his bike with a chain.
I hope it's in the works, that would be great.
At the very least I'd love to see a Road Rash re-release on XBLA/PSN/VC. Road Rash 2 was my fave.
I hope it is more over the top and gory.
Also, bring back the co-op from the PSX version.
So fun.
Man, if I had a nickel for every time a washed up 80's hair metal singer leaked info about a game in development...
This would be amazing. It could also easily be ruined. Like Barob said, keep it simple like the old games. Simple tracks. Oh, and it still needs to say "BUSTED" when a cop gets you.
When we're not taking over companies, we're rehashing classics!
Yay!
Get ready for an annoying EA dj, and his load of crappy tunes.
Nonetheless, I would like to see this, Road Rash was great back then.
I love 2 on the Megadrive and the Nintendo 64 one. Really, they really should also bring back the Mutant League series...
My vid of Road Rash 2:
+ Watch video
I used to LOVE this game. Used to play the cart all the time and also played it on Sega Channel a bunch (along with Skitchin' hahah)
I called it.
If, that is, this is the secret Starbreeze project.
Yesss!!!! Me and my brother played alot of road rash on the saturn. Hopefully they'll make it like burnout or something along those lines.
Road Rash on the PC back in the day. Good times.
@Barob, who needs a new picture already.: I agree. Keep it simple, fast, and with a decent draw-distance.
I want the Bar-Bike Shop-Restroom machanic left in from the PS1 version I loved to death. Restroom to save and choose your uber heavy metal tracks, Bike Shop to drool over awesome Super Bikes when you're riding a Rat Bike, and the Bar to chat to rivals and go to the next race. God, that game is awesome.
for a company that likes to put out new versions of their games what seems like yearly it sure has taken long enough to get another Road Rash.
@LX:
They did, it's called Burnout :3
Road Rash, imo, was cool cause you were able to take out the other riders. Burnout 3, Revenge, and Paradise were pretty much the same, except better and faster. That's not to say a bike game built on the same premise wouldn't be cool, but where else could they really go? Add the cops, sure, but...they were what I hated most about RR to start with. A game without speed and traffic and whatnot,I think, would feel like a step backwards, especially if it was realistic enough that if you slam sideways into a rider you both hit the pavement.
Although, speaking of that...a burnout style crash on a bike with a ragdoll flying though the air would likely be sickingly satisfying o_o;
Road Rash was the game back in my day. I always had a love/hate relationship with it. I love playing it and was my favorite game but it aslo one of the cheapest games on the face of the earth. With that said I will buy this on day one hands down, no questions asked.
@Shiryu: haha I love how after falling off, your sprite is unable to run in a straight line! delicious.
@sim0n: Ah, good times...
Road Rash 2 for the Genesis owned my life for a while. The soundtrack was awesome (wish Minibosses would do a song or two...). And it had an open world/sandbox environment when off your bike! You could just run up the street for ages! GTA eat your heart out!
Badass! Just think of it, 16 player online races... maybe some players playing as cops? The potential is there. Just don't make it too crazy. Bikes + Ass kicking + running from police = <3
Wow, someone at EA apparently realized that, long ago, before they bought other publishers' IP, they used to create their own! Fascinating...
I have warm visions of Wiimote-controlled chain flailing all of a sudden. Warm, cosy visions.
@Barob, who needs a new picture already.:
totally agree. i can't take anymore mess ups. The last few Road Rashes are partly why many people out there, including me, don't like EA.
To think that such a large company can't comprehend the simplicity that is the coolness of bikes and ass whoopin' yet at the same time excel (or focus a lot on, anyway) on first person shooters. Are their range so limited??
If they made this game it would forever go down in my history books, so long as it's on the 360.
I would heart it. =P
I love Sebastian Bach. I've never heard a single song that he's done, but he was awesome on Trailer Park Boys and now he drops this sweet piece of news on us. Seems like the man is always attached to good things.
Oh sweetness! I thought joining the cast of Gilmore Girls would be the highlight of his career, but selling a song for Road Re-hash? Who's this man's agent?
Life is good.
We better not get some Burnout copy but on bikes either. The game is simple. Racing on crotch rockets with weapons very simple
I think the era where games like Road Rash could be successful is over. I can't see them making a game that could be sold today that could legitmately be called Road Rash.
@gils0n:
yea man. skitchin' rocked on sega channel!
As long as the new Road Rash has FMVs. Those were my favorite parts about the game. And beating the shit out of people.
But i pray, PRAY, that they don't try to make any big changes. No urban setting, no crazy floating DJ, no shit exploding, just driving really fucking fast, gaining better bikes, beatting people with chains and shit and cutscenes with real people.
@ArmyofJuan: And also, maybe near the games release, put out an old Road Rash on XBLA/PSN
I miss Road Rash... I have fond memories of high-speed pixelated violence.
SA-WEET! I loved the Road Rash series, before it went 3D at least. I hope the focus on physics and make the game a little slapstick as well. I can't wait to run back to my bike at a blistering 17 MPH on foot.
The later Road Rash games were AWFUL. Let's not forget that, people. They got terrible reviews, they sold like crap and people hated them. If you're talking about any Road Rash that was not on the Genesis, you're talking about a terrible game.
I hope EA remembers that what made the original Genesis games so much fun was the *humor*. Hitting a cow as you come over a ridge and hearing it go "mooooOOOOO!" Then watching your rider go flying off his bike and rolling 1/2 a mile down the road, only to have to get up and run back to his bike as his competitors all tried to run him over (and sometimes did, as did the odd car). The whole game was just hilarious, in a way that you could tell the developers were just having loads of fun as they programmed it.
And they were good racing games too. They had a nice selection of bikes, good variety in the tracks, and good opponent AI. And on the Genesis!
I doubt they'll remember, and we'll get a "serious" version of Road Rash with ultra-realistic graphics and lots of dark, angry riders. All the tracks will look and play roughly the same, all the bikes will be either generic futuristic racing bikes or Harley copies.
I'll believe they can still do this series justice when I see it.
As much as the N64 version was "meh", it DID have spoking. As rewarding as chain-whipping a biker is, it's so much more rewarding to shove a metal pole in the front wheel spokes and watch him fly! SO cheap, though.
