Re: This Sunday Was Actually Lazy

As I've said before, I have no interest in ever making the jump from writing about games to creating them. Kotaku isn't a means to that end. But over the past month I did try to make some fun games. Just not video ones.

My backyard adaptation of video game classics hopes to capture the essence of some of my favorite video games, but in an outdoor, running around sort of way.

I actually made the first one of these close to when I started writing for Kotaku. Tristan was home and bored out of his mind. He wanted to play, but I didn't have time. I happened to be playing one of the Metal Gears at the time and thought it would be funny to make up a little game for him inspired by it.

So I did.

This month I added Space Invaders, Katamari Damacy, Frogger, Pac-Man and Super Mario Bros. to that list. It was kinda fun and Tristan ended up playing all of them for me. Initially I wanted him to play the games just for fun, but when he started discovering loopholes in the rules and other problems I had to take the game back and rework it.

I guess this is how developers feel.
