Randy Pitchford, head of Gearbox Software, makes games and performs magic. On the red carpet for the awards out here at DICE, I asked Pitchford to show me a trick. He happened to have a deck of cards. Of course!
Here's a fun card trick: Hand a deck of cards to a spectator and ask them to pick one, then shuffle the deck. Meanwhile, you write your prediction on a piece of paper, fold it up, and hand it to your assistant. The spectator gives you the deck of cards back. You throw the deck in the air and grab one of the cards at random. Ask the spectator: "Is this your card?" If they say no (over 98% of the time), instruct your assistant to unfold your prediction, which says: "No." On the off chance that you do snatch their card out of midair, they'll be so impressed that they won't even notice that your assistant has swallowed your prediction.
