It seems recently that a day doesn't go by without some rhythm game announcing new artists, new albums, or new features for the forthcoming versions of their franchise, and XS Game's PopStar Guitar wants in on some of that hot announcement action. In a press release that claims to be announcing four new blockbuster tracks, five new tracks are listed, which I assume means one of them isn't blockbuster enough. Is it Rihanna's "Shut Up and Drive", "SOS" by the Jonas Brothers, "See You Again" by Hannah Montana, or "Wake Up Call" and "Makes Me Wonder" from Maroon 5? Whichever of the selections is deemed unworthy of blockbuster status, one thing is perfectly clear: the demographic for this Wii and PS2 game does not include me. Should sell like hotcakes to preteen girls and their creepy admirers though.XS GAMES TURNS UP THE VOLUME ANNOUNCING FOUR NEW BLOCKBUSTER TRACKS FOR POPSTAR GUITAR™ Master Tracks From Rihanna, The Jonas Brothers and Maroon 5 to be Featured in New Music Rhythm Game for the Wii™ and PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system NEW YORK, NY - September 10, 2008 - Videogame publisher XS Games announced today that hit songs from 2008 MTV Video Music Award nominees and performers Rihanna and The Jonas Brothers, will be featured as master tracks in PopStar Guitar, a new music rhythm game for the Wii™ and PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system. DISCUSSION

It's getting pretty tough to steer the rhythm game bandwagon with all of these companies hopping on.

Hopefully it doesn't crash and burn...

On a serious note, somebody needs to get these companies together and get them to agree one a set of peripherals. There's too damn many as it is between RB, GH:RB, and RR (aka RBmania).

If I'm a retailers, here's what I've got on my shelf.

Games:

RB Special Edition (4 consoles)

GHII Bundle (360) - They STILL can't get rid of these.

GHIII Bundle (4 consoles)

GH:A Bundle (4 consoles)

Peripherals (hold on to your butts):

RB Guitar (4 consoles)

RB Drums (4 consoles)

GHIII Les Paul (4 consoles)

GHII X-Plorer (360) - Best Buy mostly still has tons of these.

And that's WITHOUT considering the countless 3rd party guitars.

Now on top of that:

RB2 Bundle (4 consoles) - Though I'm guessing this replaces the RB1 bundle.

GH:WT Band Bundle (4 consoles)

GH:WT Guitar bundle (4 consoles) - No drum bundle however.

RR Bundle (2/3 consoles?)

GH:WT guitar (4 consoles)

RB2 guitar (4 consoles)

RB2 drums (4 consoles)

Think of all the CRAP that retailers are going to be stuck with. Because if somebody's going to be Guitar Hero...they'll likely grab WT (band or guitar bundle) and then pick up the previous versions if they like it.

So now they'll have all these X-Plorers still lying around...and now a pile of Les Pauls on top of that.

And who's going to buy new RB instruments at this point with the bundle coming down the road later? So those are going to ROT while people start getting the new controllers.

Best Buy already has a full wall dedicated to RB/GH periphs, but do you think a place like Target or WalMart will be able to manage all of this stuff?
