OH thank GOD i have the japanese version. It's really hard, but we've been able to discern most of the game and it's really awsome.

Better than DW 6 because no characters were taken out, and they still had their own custom weapons :) and with the addition of the orochi side, this game is butt tons of awsome

RanChan03

@Archaotic:

I know you're sad since it's not coming out on the PS3 (just like you're probably saying and defending the same thing for Crash not coming out for PS3), but they must have their own reasons. I agree that DW6 sold like crap on both consoles but it probably sold more in America on the 360, and Koei knows that PS2 games aren't selling much these days anyway + PS3 games are more expensive to produce to warrant a release on the PS3. In Japan and Europe, they can still count on the PS2 softwares to do some miracles while in America, most Warriors fan moved on to the next generation console.

mcool93

I've always loved the warriors games. Yeah, a lot of it is button mashing, but that's really on a local level. You can button mash all you want, but if you don't mash in the right part of the map, it's game over pretty quick.

Samurai Warriors added a lot of strategy to the game by adding trigger points. Complete a task, and the battle changes. Suddenly you have catapults to your advantage, or the task force set fire to the enemy base camp.

But my favorite part of the whole thing is the coop. Let's face it, throw coop into any mediocre game, and you get something that is hours worth of fun.

Xagest

@noelix:
They did do Bladestorm, which featured the Hundred Years' War, if you remember. I would say that's probably the closest you'll get to Colonial Warriors, as after that, firearms entered into the equation.

And a DW game where every single character uses guns would suck. Let Magoichi stay unique!

Archaotic

What I'd prefer to see is one single, original line of these games instead of a million branches and mini-sequels. Then add in online components that have been missing for years. Online multiplayer co-op for starters. I also have a vision in my head of 8 vs 8 modes.

I remember reading about KOEI opening up a US branch to create North American products, and the idea that popped in my mind and has stayed is a game that may as well be called Colonial Warriors, or Dynasty Warriors 1776. Choose from any number of Revolutionary War heroes! Just watch. It'll happen. If not then they'll do something Europe-related like the Holy Wars or something.

noelix

I will admit, I'm surprised a sequel to that hasn't come out, considering how successful the original was. I mean, hell. When the game came out in Japan, it started the first PS3 console sales spike.

@mcool93:
The 360 versions don't sell worth crap either. Their sales are so negligible that the 360 versions often don't even come out in Japan at all. While DW6 sold vastly more on PS3 than on 360, Warriors games always, always always dominate on PS2.

I think the sole reason we're not getting a PS3 version is because, as stated before, the game is already out on the PS2, running on a PS2 engine. Porting it up to PS3 has no benefits whatsoever, especially when you consider the fact that PS3 owners can play it anyways.

Archaotic

@Archaotic: I totally agree; the fight didn't feel solid at all. The characters were dancing around too much, it was hard to simply concentrate on one enemy in front of you. In a way, that made it more about beating the masses of weaklings (the button-mashing part) than dueling with officers (the fighting game part). What I really liked though was how sometimes the game would switch into an actual duel (almost like DW4's duels), with the soldiers making a circle around you and the officer (and pushing you back in if you get too close to the edges). Very cool.

Guizzy

Oh, for sure, the stage mechanics in DW6 were awesome. So much new stuff, so much more depth, it was almost Samurai Warriors 2 level. But the combat system...ugh. It was painful. DW: Gundam had a better battle system. If there's anything they need to fix, it's bringing the combo system back towards SW2's.

And get rid of all the cloned movesets. I don't mind the new character designs, but there's no excuse to cut out six characters and reduce half the cast to Free Mode only characters who use movesets ripped off from the other members of the cast.

Archaotic

@Archaotic: Oh, it's a shame. Although I am more confortable with the DW5 engine, with some tweaking the DW6 engine could really become something. I particularly enjoyed how it better integrated the objective-based maps of the main series with the base-taking of the Empires games. And the refinement to the mechanics of taking a base.

@what the Ph15h?: In my opinion, if one series of game is misunderstood, DW/SW is it.

Sure, on the surface it seems like a mindless slash-fest, with your character cutting through most on the battlefield with no effort, but there's some pretty deep strategy beneath that layer, especially if you raise the difficulty level a bit. It mainly comes from the fact that while your character is quite easily capable of doing most tasks, he cannot be everywhere at once. You can follow the main conflict and advance slowly with your allies, but can you guarantee you'll be able to go back quickly enough if an enemy sneaks to your base camp? If you leave your allies to fight without helping them directly, it is likely that at one point or another they will become in danger; can you afford to leave them die, letting your enemies march on to your base camp. Or maybe you would rather chance yourself in a mad dash to the enemy base camp, where you'll be likely out-manned and ganged on, but if you concentrate all your efforts on the general you might have a shot at an early victory.

It's always a balancing act, one that's unfortunately disregarded by most.

Guizzy

That article does present an interesting viewpoint. It is always interesting to try and figure out what's going through Koei's heads when it comes to these games, as they manage to do very little in the way of innovation but people still eat them up like candy. Hell, I do it myself.

It is slightly inaccurate in a few ways, though. The character switching mechanic is actually less sophisticated than mentioned, it's more like the switch mechanic from Marvel vs. Capcom than anything else, actually. The computer doesn't control your other two characters, they just...aren't on the battlefield when you're not using them, which is a little odd. But maybe that's for the best, as AI-controlled partners suck 99.99999999999% of the time. In every game.

Archaotic

@bangbangblah:
There's already a PS2 version due out, I'm assuming they figure that most people with PS3s who would BUY a Warriors game have the 60 or 80GB and don't deem it worth doing a PS3 port.

The only reason they're doing a 360 version at all is because of the American audience. The 360 version of SW2 took almost a year to come out, and SW2 XL isn't ever coming to Japanese 360s. It's basically an afterthought, the real game is always on PS2.

Maybe when the SW and Orochi games move on to using the next-gen engines, we'll see a PS3 one.

Archaotic
