@Channing: Doubt it. DQ games are big...wait..BIG in Japan. I doubt it's fear. Maybe sometime of plan to raise awarness of the game or just a problem in production? Who knows ;)

Ack! I better get my pre-order in soon. DQV is my favorite game well...ever. I completely destroyed IV there was absolutely nothing else for me to do in it. I can't wait to do the same to V.

It's upsetting to know that now Japan can enjoy this iteration on DS as they've already enjoyed it on Super Famicom and it got remade on PS2. While the rest of the world looks at screenshots and marvels at what some say is the best game in the series. Right now I'm just content in believing the rumor, we may get this one localized finally. Even if I am a bit skeptical remembering the back of a DQVII manual advertising the DQIV remake that never came.

Dragon Quest V is the one of the best in the series.

@Dekko: The logic is quite foolish - it would only make sense if you raise the price. BTW they do that in Japan - popular games are more expensive that bad ones.

@LLost: Never heard of any shortage for Japanese RPGs in the west. The equivalent for DQ in Japan is GTA/Halo in America. Not sure about Europe though (didn't see any lines for either Halo or GTA, and they were easy to get).

That said, modules are actually harder to produce in a short time than optical media - there are much less places that produce them and neither of them will be willing to produce more just because Enix delayed its production.

I can understand what they are doing and it's not very nice but it's business. You make something that is very popular and you know that it is going to sell no matter what, so, you create a little artificial supply shortage and make your product even more "exclusive." Later they will ship enough units for everyone but the initial excitement "Oh, it's hard to get, I'll try my luck! etc." has already done it's job.

Thankfully I have a friend who runs the Biz Camera near me and will hold onto a copy for me. I would hate to wait in line for my favourite.

Now they know it will sell great, as IV did and IX will, they just finished the beta build later then expected from what I hear. That cost them quite a bit of time in production of the units.
