To use blanket statements that are meant to hold true for every moviegoer, would mean you'd have to include yourself in the belief that the moviegoing audience is always is a bunch of mindless automatons without any standard of quality, because for whatever you like, you can guarantee someone thinks the same thing of you and the people who also watch your preferred film.

Bay may not be the greatest director I've seen - especially with people like Ridley Scott, Spielberg, or James Cameron around - but he can do action. That's what people pay for. I can watch classic films like A Time To Kill, In The Heat Of The Night or Blade Runner, but still appreciate the big-budget, blow up feasts (within reason) that directors like Bay offer.

People need to take their heads out of their asses and stop acting like they're the bastion of knowledge on quality entertainment. If I think a film sucks, I won't support it by not watching it (Like What Happens in Vegas... or anything else Kutcher does), but guess what? Other people are going to like it. I don't understand why crap becomes hits (Charles Angels, anyone?), but it happens and there must be some reason why, and no, it isn't always because the audience is a bunch of mindless automatons who march to a popular beat without any standard of quality.

Studios green light anything they think is going to make a buck. Even if one film tanks due to lack of high box-office numbers, studios will always keep trying to sell a "bad" film for quick profit. It can't be stopped, and one person not watching a film isn't going to always make a difference. It's always going to happen. If exec's smell money from a project, you can bet it'll be made.

Since it's a never-ending cycle, I'd rather give a film a chance or walk away than try to propose a rallying cry for people not to watch a film that other people are going to watch anyway, regardless of what I have to say. People like TheExiledLeader has the right attitude, because you have to watch a film to know if it's good or bad, right? Empirical knowledge goes a long way, and maybe not you, but I know some of the haters are going to get the torrents anyway. So what does it matter?

You think the film is garbage, fine. Just don't suggest that people are fools who eat up shit, because you don't like what they do. It's just trollish.

@ Topic: It's awesome to see advertisement for the film in Shonen Jump. I wonder what Japanese fans think of this rendition of Toriyama's classic work? If this film succeeds, can I get a Phantom Blood film? Johnathan's story is probably the most adaptable to live-action filming in the JoJo franchise.

A. I hate DBZ, and although I've never seen much of DB I will agree it is fairly good from what I HAVE seen. So thats (hopefully) a plus to me, but with DBZ being soooo much more popular among the masses I fear it may end up leaning more towards that side of the story despite its title.
B. Tallish White Guy plays short spiky haired Asian monkey child... wrong in every way.
C. Chow-Yun Fat, right in every way.
D. Live Action, (error... retry, fail, abort)
E. Stephen Chow... ARRGH QUITE TAZING ME BRO. Shaolin Soccer was sooooooo good, and I still yearn to see Kung-Fu Hustle, but have not have the time or money.

I really don't get all that Michael Bay hate. Granted I've only seen Transformers of his, I thought it was a very enjoyable movie. Saw it with about 20 friends after a huge school term. We all enjoyed it a lot. Isn't that the point?

I like to believe the reason for Goku not drawn like a bodybuilder early on is that DB came out during the mid-80s and I don't recall a lot of manga outside of Hokuto no Ken that featured hulking characters. I guess Toriyama's drawing style just evolved over the years. I remember Vegeta was pretty short when he first appeared but appeared taller later on.

As for the movie itself, I'll probably go see it. At the very least, I'll be dragged to it by some friends who are bigger DBZ fans than I (own figurines, DVDs, etc, etc). Just hope it's not too fucked up...

Goku wasn't all that big pre-DBZ. Go look at teen Goku from books 15-17 before Raditz shows up.

If this does well (haha) he still has time to bulk up for any sequels.

For me, there's an Uncanny Valley for wanting to see adaptations of beloved works. It starts off at the bottom, like robot, intrigue and curiosity that it wants to be like what I know. It moves closer to the Valley as I find out more, like screenshots and press releases. Then it hits the fucking Valley and I want nothing to do with it. At the very bottom of the curve, the Zombie if you will, it's the sick curiosity that inevitably, I will have to see it to believe it, and you will be damn sure I will shoot it in its head. Or it can be like Iron Man, a story about a man and a robot, and be as close to a sexy human you just want to touch.

It normally takes what, six months for an actor to bulk up sufficiently for a role? eg. look at Edward Norton in American History X or Ryan Reynalds in Blade: Trinity. I'm sure Justin spent some time training before shooting, but not enough. Plus that costume doesn't look very baggy.
