		    <description><![CDATA[<p>@<a href="#c5583042">Zazu_Yen</a>: I hate to disagree with someone with an Orpheus avatar, but I will.  The story in Doom 1 and 2 was limited to a screen of text every once in a while.  Doom 3 had cutscenes, PDAs, NPCs, and screens in the game to watch things on. The general story is the same (space marine saves the world from monsters from hell), but the storytelling was much more engaging and fleshed out.</p>

		    <description><![CDATA[<p>@<a href="#c5583818">man_in_gauze</a>: A true sequel to RTCW actually IS being made by raven from what i hear.I hope splash damage do the multiplayer side though as im still a big fan of wolf et and play it daily.RTCW got me started way back in 2001 or there abouts and i`ve been hooked since.Definately THE best multiplayer games i have ever played, and ive played a lot.It just never gets old for me.<br>
Doom 3 still looks good when maxed out on todays hardware but i think the quake 3 engine was IDs best engine to date in terms of what it could do at the time it was released.</p> <p><a href="n/a">UFO</a></p>]]></description>

<P>The id guys should make the gameplay faster than it was for Doom 3. The character in 3 just felt clumsy.</P>
<P>Less scripted sequences might also help. I think id was trying to follow in Half-Life's steps by using scripted scenarios in Doom 3, but there was too much of it.</P> <p>g8or8de</p>]]></description>

It feels cheap when you turn a corner and watch some dude teleport through a bright orange thing. I'd take anything over the graphics power. Plastic looking things. I just had too many issues. <p>Not bump mapping, normal mapping. There is a big difference. If you played the game with the normal mapping switched off it look horrid. And once again, it's not how many polygons you have it's what you do with them that counts.</p>

<p>you know, even at maxed out settings @ 1920x1200, with the tweaked ultra-high quality mods, the game still didn't look very good.</p>
<p>To me, Doom 3 was Quake 3 with bump mapping and better lighting.  The poly count was VERY-low, and everything was dark+boring... Quake 4's tweaks helped, but even still, i'm not impressed by the engine.</p> <p>expansionsss</p>]]></description>

They were the first enemy you encountered, and from there on you meet them throughout the whole game; they climb out of ducts, they teleport behind you as soon as you've picked up an item, a wall opens - an imp jumps out.</p>

		    <description><![CDATA[<p>I'm definitely up for Doom.  I'm one of these freakish people who loved Doom 3, my only complaint being that they didn't bring it to the PS3.</p>
<p>Yes, it didn't innovate and bring amazing new things to the first-person genre.  But it was fanatically loyal to its source, and that's why I loved it.  I <i>loved</i> that it still took two good shotgun blasts to take down a Pinky.  Little mechanics like that, plus the wonderful atmosphere made it an instant classic for me.</p>

<p>But for all that it was <i>fun</i>. The limitations made it more scary for me. I loved Doom 3, precisely because of it's half-baked whonky ridiculousness. 		    <description><![CDATA[<p>I liked Doom 3, but the monster closets were a bit much and instantly spawning monsters behind you kind of got old.  The "No ducttape or zipties on Mars" problem was kind of silly as well.  I understand that guns don't normally come with flashlights attached, but I think just about anyone in a situation where they have to pick between being able to SEE what is trying to kill you and being able to SHOOT AT what is trying to kill you would work on fixing that problem kind of quickly.</p>
<p>Nitpick: Having to go online to get that door code kind of sucked, nothing like saving, quitting, going to <a href="http://www.martianbuddy.com">[www.martianbuddy.com]</a>, writing down the code because years of video games have given you an attention span of 30 seconds, starting the game, loading and typing in the code!</p>
<p>(If my computer at the time wasn't having a hard time running Doom 3 as is, I wouldn't have minded.  But it was! :-P)</p> <p><a href="n/a">NateN</a></p>]]></description>

<p>To be honest, at this point I could care less.  id is really great at eye candy and always has been. But I'd much rather spend money with a company that is working to advance AI or gameplay then making another great looking un-fun game.</p>

		    <description><![CDATA[<p>So id is starting on their next tech demo, cool.</p>
<p>Doom 3 was the most technically advanced remake of early 90's run-n-gun gameplay ever made. It's shouldn't have surprised anyone, they SAID they were making a spiritual successor to DOOMs gameplay and that's exactly what they did. It's just that no one expected them to completely ignore all the other advances in gameplay that have happened since then, which they did.</p>
<p>The Painkiller and Serious Sam games did it better, if not as sexily.</p>
<p>It's a beautiful engine though, I spent a notable amount of time in the game just watching how dynamic shadows could play across their normal mapped curved surfaces and moving geometry. The most stunning real-time re-creation of claustrophobic industrial spaces ever. Too bad it's not so good at anything else.</p>

		    <description><![CDATA[<p>Remember when they said Doom III would be the last Doom game? Yeah, me too. Not that I'm upset they broke their promise, I'm rather glad, it's just kind of funny. I'm all for more Doomage, and hopefully they'll get this right.</p>

<p>Hopefully they will take a note from Doom 3 complaints... and make the game more interesting. I was bored by level 3 after going through the same looking corridors over and over.</p>
