There's a definite reflex aspect with dodging some ranged attacks, where you need pretty precise timing from a visual or sound cue to get out of the way. Generally you need to work these dodges into your combos, too, and flow fluidly from one enemy to the next to try and keep them all down. :p

When you're fighting a single enemy, typically they can't be stunned. Bosses in particular are almost totally immune to it, but there are others that are largely stun resistant.

I used to be a huge Ninja Gaiden fan - didn't respect DMC or GoW much. DMC4 won my love though. It just has a sharper learning curve to start with than NG: you can't hold down a block button ever, you have to recognise and dodge every enemy attack right from the very start.

It's interesting that you can take that both ways. When I read that I thought - doing a long combo on an enemy basically renders them paralysed, right? So it's constant button sequence streaming to ensure the enemy can't do anything? But the quick time events in GOW require you to react to them and they change from one time to the next so it's a matter of instant comprehension and reflexes.

Not attacking or anything, I play Beatmania so I know well spending whole levels pressing long exact button sequences. Maybe I'm misunderstanding DMC? I've tried it but never felt anything, so coming from the opposite side that seemed the natural way to interpret it.

And what a great game... normally I'd get bored of beating the crap out of ten thousand guys in a row, but this game just keeps kicking ass.

...though the puzzle that brutally exploits camera angles (no spoilers, but you know... It's fairly early in) is unfair. Kratos doesn't see where he needs to go because he sees himself from a couple dozen feet away? Really?

@GhaleonUnlimited: It would be a little silly to make fun of the PSP's controls when Ready At Dawn did such an outstanding job, making the controls nigh on impeccable.
GOW-COO is one game where you cannot blame your failures on bad controls - blame them on ridiculous boss fights or that stupid unlockable potato costume which keeps distracting you from said ridiculous boss fights. (Even though unlimited magic makes you de facto immortal.)
