ph15h HATES ph15h & E-Grizzle & pimpsc00by I can't believe you all
mentioned the demigod of producers DJPremier. I don't have GTA IV so I don't
know what time frame the game is held in. But if the game is held within the
late 80s to late 90s there should be at least on fucking song produced by
DJPremier. GTA San Andreas had BYS from Gang Starr. On another note hit me
up via e-mail to talk about some DJ Premier stuff. (djmanoloco@hotmail.com)

Yes, I do agree that San Juan sounds are the best!; being raised from southside LBC and all. Nothing like "Today was a good day" blasting from a videogame. I didn't have to look too far to find a lowrider as a child, just had to peek out the window.

yep, I think the GTA IV soundtrack is terrible as well. It's fine to have a station or two playing music that isn't well known but the majority of this stuff is hardly a classic or current hit.

I love Dominion by SoM but who the hell is going to remember that one? It's not exactly a classic rock track and not something that acts as the soundtrack to a bank job. At least in Saint's Row you had the MP3 player so you could avoid the crap and go straight to the songs you did like.

You can't have a car chase to most of it because it's too laid back, too tuneless or plainly just lame. Jazz? Who the hell plays GTAIV and has a car chase to Jazz? A Marley station? Eh why?

Vice City (and even SA) had great mix of genres, well known songs and more obscure stuff. IV is just a waste as a soundtrack to an action game. Trying to represent and authentic city radio culture is nice in theory but most people don't play video games to listen to 24/7 Marley and Ukranian radio.

ArcaneDevice

Don't get me wrong theres that Shaggy song that kicks ass but mostly the radio stations sound uninspired.
The only other GTA I've played is San Andreas. The sound track suited the game well and help to establish the feel of the game. Unfortunately, I do not get this same feeling from GTAIV's radio stations. The music just seems like a big mix of mediocrity.

DeathBeforeDishonor

I went to a Eastern European party on Saturday and there was a guy who looked exactly like Roman (especially the shirt).

I have to vent this somewhere and I have to be honest. I'm not a big music listener. I don't buy all that much music. I haven't got the slightest notion of who Roy Ayers or Femi Kuti are, and it really wouldn't occur to me to bother to find out. My ability to name the song and artist of a modern musical tracks mostly depends on whether the song appeared in Guitar Hero.

That being said, I, with my limited exposure to this kind of thing, am completely underwhelmed by the radio stations in GTA IV, and the choice of music in particular.

Vice City was quite good, as it contained a lot of tunes I actually knew, and the ones I didn't were bright and catchy. I didn't like San Andreas at first, thinking it was far too rap/hip hop heavy, but again there were a few songs I knew and liked, and the ones I didn't know gradually grew on me. Even some of the songs on the gangsta stations started to grow on me some, and I can now say that I like the San Andreas soundtrack.

GTA IV? Completely flat and boring as far as I can tell. No recognisable crowd pleasers for people like me, and for all of the playtime I've put in, I have to say that nothing I've heard has grown on me. I mean, not a single song or piece of music ever comes on that I've come to like and appreciate. I kind of default to the Jazz station or the one with the robot DJ, but that's mostly because the others vascillate between grating on the nerves or boring me to tears. Actually, Vladivostok is probably the only station that has one or two songs growing on me, surprisingly enough.

I really wish they'd have put one or two Gen-X type radio stations and thrown a few more bones to people like me. I'm very unimpressed by the music selection this time round.

Once more, this is my subjective opinion, if you don't feel the same way, I'm happy for you.

cordsie

I must agree with nyaz on the disappointment that Immortal technique is not on it.

Shabat0ge

Needs more Francois K.

Seriously, what is with GTA and rap? The soundtrack that came with the special edition was atrocious enough, and now this? Not to hate on the genre, but there are other types of music to kill hookers to (or whatever your fancy is).

I'm so glad they included that ZIT feature (which, after two weeks is finally working correctly on the Social Club site, I might add). I'm going to have a nice mix of Electro Choc, The Journey, Liberty Rock Radio, Radio Broker and a dash of other songs.

Tyber_Zann

Eh... Take off Crackhouse and you'd have a good 102.7 BEAT soundtrack.

DJ Premier's should come next.

I love the music in GTA IV. The fact that Roy Ayers AND Femi Kuti have their own stations blew my mind. Roy AYERS!?! In a video game? Spinning David Axelrod!?!

I'm still going to wait and see if they release a boxset... frankly, I could care less about the rap-orientated stations. I just wants me a Liberty Rock Radio, The Journey, Fusion FM and JNR CD set if anything. As I say, the boxset would be lovely, just from a production value/completionist point of view.

Hendrixx

I was surprised how little i liked on the music stations. Probably only about 3 or 4 songs I like. At the same time it feels weird having a high-speed chase listening to talk radio.

liquid_kore
