I really dig Viva Pinata, but I'm not sure I really need a sequal. The game would have to give me some great co-op/community options, I guess.

I'm just not sure what else I'd want from a game like that. Live co-op, sure...but the sequal would need a pretty strong hook to get me excited for it.

GorbyGipper

Awesome. I actually loved the first one (surprisingly). They marketed to the wrong people. Yeah, it sells to them but it's also a pretty deep game.
See, that's the root of the problem. I typically don't like to run to FAQ's or guides to get through a game. I like figure things out if I can, as its more rewarding. But there are many things that VP didn't make clear at all IN GAME as to how to reach many goals in it.

And, as I stated in my original comment, I've never played a sim game like this so, yeah, it was difficult, especially when pinatas keep fighting, eating each other or simply refuse to mate on command ........ wow, I just literally frustrated myself writing that sentence, hahaa.

DARTH_TIGRIS

@DARTH_TIGRIS:
In your defence I do believe that the game may be a bit difficult for what I think the target audience is (7-12 maybe?), but is the game really that hard? I agree that is very difficult/ impossible to "catch em' all" on the first play through ( If you know what I mean.) but I think that's the point. If you could do it all in one go there wouldn't be much of a point to play again. I think for replayability's sake, MS/RARE was banking on the fact that you could start a new game and get different results every time. Its the wonder and suprise/ "whats next" formula, and that formula isn't very suprizing without any more well . . . suprizes. I mean, how many of you out there got all of the Pinata creatures and continued to play? Very few I bet. I obviously can't speak for MS/RARE but I don't think they were counting on someone getting everything accomplished on the first play through, and if they did, where is the value in a game like that? It wouldn't be worth the price of admission. Plus, any kid over the age of, . . . four, let's say, could go online and figure out how to accomplish everything.
In my humble opinion ( that's all it is.) this game is more like a " Choose Your Own Adventure" book (Remember those?) where your initial decisions with Pinatas effect the course you follow through the game but cmon people, it's not rocket science! You can always go back and try again. You can't die and the game never ends! Well, maybe that's part of the problem.
All that said, if you really do think this game is a difficult sim game and you are over the age of eight, please, please don't ever play a real sim game like C & C, Starcraft, etc. because your head may blow up just by trying.

HarkMammil

Wow. I would love to know why you couldn't figure out this game. Did you play it for more than a half hour? VP is a simulation game on the simplist level. My guess is you didn't really give it a decent try or you just didn't like it that much. If it really was too hard for you maybe you should give Princess Peach on the DS a shot. Just messing with you, but seriously though, . . . too hard??? Really??? C'mon!

HarkMammil

You know, there is a lot of VP praise here. I had some fun with it too, but it was my first game of its type and ... well, the micromanagement of it all felt more like work than a game. And it is FAR more complicated than it looks. I thought I was making good progress only to go online and realize that I hadn't accomplished hardly ANYTHING. With 440 achievements points, I haven't touched the game in over 6 months. I really don't see myself ever 'completing' it.

So will VP:TiP fix my problems with the first and make for a more enjoyable game? Dunno. Hope so. I liked the first, but don't know if I really enjoyed it as much as I could've ...

DARTH_TIGRIS

The first game is amazing, it looks like a kids game but once you play it you realise that's where it fails.

It's quite difficult.

It's not bad because of it, it just means kids will need an adult to play it with them (to complete the game) - that's my excuse anyway!

Contra666

Basically, you're wrong. VP1, and VP2, are animal / farming sims.

Party Animals was a spin off game full of mini games aimed at the kids who watch the tv series, since VP1 was to complex for most kids and lacked the personalities of the pinatas from the TV show (they didn't talk like them and weren't exciting or funny).

It was a spinoff and wasn't officially Viva Pinata 2. Much like Killzone 2 is called Killzone 2 even though it's the third Killzone since there is Killzone: Liberation on PSP, the fact that COD4 is caled COD4 even though it's more like the 8th, and how GTA 4 is called GTA 4 even though it's the 9th installment in the GTA world.

karasu is my homeboy

@kylo4: False. Viva Pinata 1 was a animal/ farming sim.

Part Animals was a spin off, and although it used the same characters, it was a party game full of mini games.

Viva Pinata 2 is going to be the sequel, featuring animal/ farming sim gameplay.

It's like how COD4 can call itself COD4 when there's really been 8 of them

Call of Duty
Call of Duty: United Offensive
Call of Duty: Finest Hour
Call of Duty 2
Call of Duty 2: Big Red One
Call of Duty 3
Call of Duty: Roads to Victory
Call of Duty 4: Modern

information regarding the game. I thought you'd have a HUGE garden
where you could have every single species with their own little areas

I was quite disappointed. I think a nice way to fix this would be to
have a zoo you can sell pinatas to. That way you can move around the
Zoo and see all the pinatas acting the way they normally do without
having to feed them or anything.

Akanubon

@Xiedo:

That was the problem with it. The game itself was not intended for kids. But with the cartoon and the way it was marketed, many passed up on it due to its childish aim. It is actually a very deep ecosystem involved game.

I am pumped for it, here's hoping for a PC version as well.

StopTheOncoming

Viva Pinata was pretty fun, but I recall it was way too complicated for a kid. And it was menu-flooded. In my defense as then-23-year-old owner of the game, I only got it cause I drove all the way out to a CompUSA (a chain that was soon closing in the states) to use a gift card and their game selection sucked. It had it narrowed down to this or Chomehounds.

Looking forward to Tuesday and all the info proper.

Xiedo

Funny story: I actually bought Viva Pinata on the same day as Gears of War. The dude at the store gave me a pretty funny look.

Stormrider

More VP? Hells, yes, bitches! I loved the first one, despite the wrong gender and being about 15 years too old.

By the look of it, one of the major annoyances fixed is the fence issue - the first game would only let you place enough fence to cover maybe 3 of 4 sides of a small pen, making them pretty much useless

directhex
