1) Anything you resale requires you pay tax in the US, it's simply a matter of enforcement - not that I think it's right, it simply is.

2) Breaching an agreement (EULA) won't get you arrested, it's your actions that will get your arrested. It is not ILLEGAL to sell gold, it is against VU/Blizzard's EULA. Their only repercussion against you is to ban you from playing. If they report your actions to the feds, and they learn you've been making un-taxed income... KYAGB.

It is not ILLEGAL to say racist things in the game, it's against their EULA (and obviously poor taste). Don't blur the line between breaking the law and breaking an EULA.

Not that I expect you have, but if you'd played in China you'd know that the spam there for gold selling and character leveling on public channels and via tell is a lot more frequent than in the US, especially after the report spammer thing.

Anyway, seeing as how this is all internal to China and their laws on virtual items are a bit weirder than ours (there was the thing earlier where a couple went to court over how to split up their virtual posessions from ZGT i think...) It's possible that gold farming is a somewhat legitimate business(legally) and the person's just suing because his partner is embezzling.

NOOOOOOOOOOOO. the resale of ANYTHING does NOT contribute to any nation's gdp, therefore, the "unpaid tax" theory is FALSE. i mean, if they farmed that gold, its rightfully theirs. they can do whatever the eff they want.

the only reason they are getting arrested for is the breach of terms (which they agree upon before playing), NOT unpaid tax.

Hahaha, the Chinese didn't arrest these people because they were gold farming, they arrested them for avoiding taxes(ie- "unfair revenue distribution"). In other words, the government was mad that they weren't getting a piece of the action

it basically says: the pair rented a room, hired 20 some people, planted trojans to steal WOW accounts, stripped victims of gold coins, and then, profit!(selling 1 gold for 1-3 RMB cent).

As this little business running from Aug 07 through Mar 08, they got 1.6M RMB at all.

But the two had some disagreement about dividing up, so one of them reported the other's misdoing to the police, with a hard disk storing all the evidence, believing this would help him get rid of his partner. A smart move, so he get his smart ass under arrest after cops find out he had his share as well. The other one, as now, is still at large.
