GTA4 has boatloads of references to San Andreas in it. But I can't recall ever hearing a reference to Vice City. (I think someone mentioned "florida" once, though).

I also saw a Vice City poster in GTA IV, so I think its just a inter-series reference. Although instead of doing a new San Andreas, why not just Los Santos, and make the city its self enormous, or just a San Fierro? I mean, It would be great to do the whole state, but I would like much larger cities, with a whole lot more detail. Oh, and P.S. The Claude in GTA 2 is hardly the Claude in GTA III though.

And as weird and interesting as the culture is in Japan, I don't see Rockstar departing the U.S. just yet. Their bread and butter for the last decade has been tearing a new one to American culture.

Their period pieces are over and they've ripped on modern times, so who knows.

For those who don't know, the original GTA contained several cities, them being Liberty City, Vice City and San Andreas. Rockstar's keeping quite canon with the game's history. GTA 2 just contained a single city, just referred to as "Anywhere City". This game, however, had Claude Speed, the protagonist which would appear on GTA 3, as the main character.

A simple wiki checks it all out. Do your research, people.

Again. If the DLC was a whole new city MS would have blown it's load already. Waiting until after the game's release makes no sense. Regardless of what the DLC turns out to be it's going to be many times harder to get someone to switch systems come autumn than it would have been a few weeks ago.

The DLC should have been the lockin to drive system sales over the past 6 months and leading up to launch. Post launch people have made their beds.

As for the $50mil. This was a "bid" to win the exclusive DLC, it wasn't a budgetary purchase, R* didn't quote out how much it would cost to make the DLC, they probably said,

"Hey Mr.Sony, Hey Mr.MS, there are two blank pieces of paper on the table. Each of you write down a number, we'll add six zeros on the end and the highest number gets the DLC in this here briefcase."

Just equating the "exclusive DLC" to an additional 300,000 sales MS wouldn't have had, costs them only $166 dollars per unit. Subtract unit profit, live subscriptions, DLC profit etc and they probably break even. They make no short term progress but do steal 300,000 customers from the competition and reap long term profits from software/hardware sales.

It's less a dollar win and more a necessary denial strategy.

Exactly. GTAIV reportedly cost $100 million to make. If MS is paying Take Two half of what the entire cost of the game was, it's almost crazy to think that the DLC *won't* be something as huge as another entire city or two.

$50 million is almost double what it cost to develop Gears of War and Lost Planet combined.

Keep in mind that MS needs to actually sell a ton of these DLC packs in order to make their money back. If all they are is just more missions in Libery City I know I won't be bothering with them, and I expect most people won't either.

As long as they don't release GTA: Kansas where one of the missions is protecting the corn crop from intruding crows and using a combine harvester in low speed chases.....although I do recall a combine harvester being used rather well in Carmageddon so it could work. All I know is whatever Rockstar decide to release in terms of add-on's, they will do it well and the majority will be happy.........can't wait.

I recall their being Vice City Ads of the exact same nature in one of the first videos that were released for GTAIV. Look it up! I am 100% positive. Maybe they changed the Ad's to Los Santos in the final game, but I remember watching the 1up analyzation videos where they pointed out the Vice City sign that said "from $299" on it. Ironically enough when i saw that video I automatically assumed that that $50 million dollars was going towards Exclusive Vice City DLC for the 360...

I like the Getaway series by the way, just clarifying that they don't "own" the rights to having a game set in London. I think Getaway games have looked a lot more realistic than GTA games. Gameplay wise? It can't compete with GTA as it's a very linear game. If I could have the graphics of a Getaway game with the gameplay of a GTA game I'd be in sandbox heaven.

Vice City was nice and all, and I understand GTA San Andreas was fun and all, but I'm really not into the sunny-beachy kinds of settings, especially retro sunny beachy. I'm hoping they move the next game out of the US. Lets see some football hooligans.

More than anything, I'm hoping they don't go back to Italian mobsters or a Boys in the Hood kind of scenario again. I'm really enjoying GTA4's take on things, especially Radio Vladivostok. I wish they had more songs on that station. It has a much more worldly feel to it. The other games felt like I was just listening to regular old radio with better commercials.

And its' true. 50 million + whatever they want to charge for DLC, say, 800 to 1600 MS points for an extra city, while putting pressure for people to buy bigger hard drives? It's a win for literally everyone. I don't doubt it anymore.

I think it's laughable to think we're just getting some extra missions, personally.

If they do that then it'll most likely be just Los Santos in DLC form instead of San An. but just think, if they enlarge the city, put the GTA IV detail in it and add some swank cars, ohhh man.

I'd imagine there will be future "expansions" of GTA4 that will take place in other cities, like they did with GTA1 (GTA: London 1961 and London 1969) and GTA3 (Vice City, San Andreas, Liberty City Stories, Vice City Stories)
