I own both consoles but only have 2 games on the PS3 cause it downscales most games to 480p on my TV. F1 is no exception actually, but it's such a great F1 game.. the best I've ever played. 2. The time to do a race properly is always going to be a barrier, especially if you include practice and qualifying.
3. F1 is a team games so you should get a race engineer who advises a set up for each race, then you can refine it. A wizard would help too, guiding you through by asking if you have oversteer, unable to get power down etc. That would help make the technical bit more accesible.

And floppylobster is right, F1 the sport is for tech heads as much as driving fans, so a game wouldn't really appeal to them. My mate is bonkers for F1 and games but has no interst in an F1 game at all.

I also disagree that it was a mere tech demo. IMO it had one of the most satisfying and challenging career modes of any sports games, it had a quite solid online offering and it was pretty challenging to play on 'hard' settings without getting frustrating.

I think hardcore racing sims should be kept to the PC, while console games should keep their accessibility. I don't want to have to set up my car for two days to remain competitive. F1:CE was near perfect in the balance between arcade and sim imo.

Well, now EA is going to grab the licence and we'll get another outing with stupid 'scenarios' and a twitchy physics engine.

For PC sim racers, Sony's F1 game was a toy. It was nice to play, but really wasn't any kind of real "simulation". I don't want to say too many negative things about Sony's efforts, for console games, they were good.

I've played them all, and no other game make you feel like you are in an F1 race better than that one. That said, it is not perfect. The game REALLY needed friends leagues that you could take through a whole season, and the option of the Safety Car. it would have been totally doable, and would have essentially completed the experience. I am also VERY confused as to why SONY didn't offer roster updates as DLC. I would have paid $10US for the 2008 season roster and rule updates. Although you can pretend a bit by turning the driving aids off. The AI still uses them I'll bet though. For the guy who said "bump" racing was more exciting, there are games for that, but such a thing has no place in F1 or in GT. If the license has to go somewhere else, I would prefer Codemasters. At 75 mill though, I'm not sure even EA will pick it up what with the lackluster sales in past years.

Lastly, Hamilton rocks, but needs some more experience without traction control. He has real trouble competing with Kimi at this point. I think Kimi made a real d**k move by jumping to cursed Ferrari, but he is arguably the best driver in F1 currently.

Back when it came out, as usual I believed the generally blah reviews by burned out or biased critics, then I got around to renting it earlier this year and found I really liked it. My wheel's supported, rumble's there now. And really there's nothing major wrong with the game. The speed sensation is really well done. Only some of the weather is impossibly hard to drive in. F1:CE has excellent graphics, IMO on par with all of the best racers out since 2006.

Now I want to buy it, and I'm finding it's actually hard to find (used anyway). Multiplatform is probably the way to go on the next one. Got to give the 360/PC players some F1, too, since it is a worldwide event. And clearly $75-mil is not reasonable for this license.

Then again, when GT5 comes out I'm hoping it has enough F1-style action to keep me from buying an all new F1-licenced game.
