Just because they had RRoD issues and that NOBODY wants to let go of that doesn't mean that the console itself isn't great.

In fact, it's probably the most well thought-out product to ever hit shelves. All they've done since the beginning is improve on it but the core of the experience was there from day one and allow me to elaborate

Keep it mind what happened with the PS3 in the beginning--Krazy Ken Kutaragi(sp?) said something like "we will sell 5 million, even if it didn't have games". The 360 unexpectedly put up stiff competition and to me it seems sony is in recovery mode trying to make up for their miscaluculation of consumer's loyalty to the playstation brand.

Now that the 360 is a viable option, everyone is looking at the PS3 and wondering why its taking so darn long to get the same stuff that the 360 has(rumble, a complex online community, and a huge game library).

Maybe its because sony expected consumers to be satisfied without all those features before they launched the PS3 so they never pushed themselves to include them?

Regardless though, at least they are taking their time to release a good product. Home may be much better than xbox live if they do it right--it has a ton of potential, and sony is already proving they are getting their stuff together--the new Playstation Store is pretty awesome, and at least the PSN is not littered with verbally abusive gamer trash ruining the experience for everyone.

And overall, the quailty of the PS3 is far higher than its competitors(I could see mine lasting for another 8 years for sure) so you cant really ask for more than that!

I really don't think home will take off at all in the US. I do think it will work very well in Japan, Korea and the EU.

It just doesn't seem very appealing to Americans. I've seen so little shooting in the demo videos.

Just like I didn't mind Rockstar pushing back GTA IV to iron out the creases, just like I'm glad to hear Sierra/Radical has pushed back Prototype, I have no problem with Sony tinkering with Home 'till it's met with their satisfaction.

I didn't buy my PS3 on the promise of the best online component. If that had been my primary concern, I would have gotten a 360. And, if statistics are to be believed, a second one. And a third. And fourth...

I mean, it's not like you've delayed console selling features into vaporware before with the PS2. I mean, That video On Demand, AOL on PS2, and Partnership with Real Networks, really worked out well for you guys.

All you guys ripping at Peter Moore, probabbly would have said the same damn thing if asked a similar question. I know I sure as hell wish sony would finish home up and get it out. The progress on the Beta is almost as slow as Xbox 360's Backwards Compatability update. The only way Home will be a good product is if the Release isnt the end of it. It's not Finished when it's out. That's only the beginning. New content will come, new features... and so on.

You're making excuses for the industry. The RROD is just wrong. The tech should work. The Cell processor should be programmable when it comes out. That's Sony's responsibility. Super Samsh Brawl should work on all Wiis when it comes out.

In no other industry do we accept this type of fail. And you especially do we see people blindly defending these corporate entities when they make promises they don't keep. This goes for ALL the consoles and lots of devs too.

@Playstation: If you think the PSN is a good online system, then that's great. But it's a fraction of what it should be and what Sony has promised it would be this point, whether explicitly with saying Home would be ready or implicitly by hinting at XMB and in-game voice standards and the like. The fact that I have to quit a game to get a message at this point is NOT acceptable.

Yes. I can log in and shoot people and it works. But that's it? Really? I can do more on my DS in some ways with WiFi than I can on my PS3. And that's just wrong in so many ways. And why would they change it when their fans just say, "I'm happy with what you give me because it's free." Bollocks.

All good points. I agree that developers likely want to start creating content for Home and all these delays are throwing a wrench into the process. If the Home beta is working reliably, then maybe Sony should go ahead and launch it, and try to update the service periodically from the feedback gained from developers and users. That model has worked pretty well for Xbox Live. The longer the delays, the higher the expectations and the more likely that people will be dissapointed, or at least say, well this is fine and all, but why did we have to wait to long to get it?

This isn't the RROD, this isn't a hardware issue, it's a software issue. Sometimes you just have to run with it to see what really works and what doesn't. You can always upgrade it based on the data. Some may say that's the purpose of the beta, and I would agree, but if the beta works reliably, and doesn't crash every 5 minutes, work out the kinks as you go. I dunno, just my opinion.

I hear what you are saying about the new techonology but keep in mind that PS3 dev kits have been out since 05. How long is it going to take for Sony/programmers to get the hang of this? It's been 3 1/2 years already. Why are we still having delays? 3 1/2 years is more than enough to learn this "new" technology.

Wow, maybe you stick to your 360 because you don't exactly know what you're talking about. For one, everyone knew FF and KZ wouldn't be out till late this year if not in 2009. Advertising is meant to show the potential buyers what is coming as well as what is available. Thats just the way its always been done. Plus Home is not a game so lets not include it in that list.

Second, we have a coherent on-line thank you very much. Excuse us if we don't feel like paying $50 for a couple extra features which aren't critical anyway.

Third, the Cell and BR are basically new technology, it takes time to understand it so delays are expected. If you ask me the only thing that needed delayed the 360 to avoid all those idiotic RRoD's and disc drive errors. You wanna talk about consumers getting screwed over, well I've never seen so many 360 fanboys get screwed out the ass and sit there begging for more.

Fast forward 6 months from the holidays and 1.5 of those games are out. GTA and sort of GT5 with prologue. Obviously MGS is out soon. But the rest is just waiting. As someone who has a PS3, I think it sucks.

Want rumble? Wait. Want a coherent online? Wait. Want the stuff we said you were going to have before? Wait.

And yes, all games and consoles are subject to delays sometimes. But with the PS3, it just seems like EVERYTHING gets delayed.

I don't know what it is about this industry, but it treats consumers like dirt. It's like, oh I bought the car today, and they promised me my Nav system by December, but it got pushed back to next year. That's ok.

I think Home would come out sooner if Sony was being pushed by the development community by shoving content in their faces that continues to lose money with each delay of Home.

I have two predictions: 1) Home is ultimately dropped because the vision was too big and they didn't plan well before starting the project leading to too many unforeseen problems in trying to connect millions of people together at one. Or 2) Home won't be released until Fall 2009 (I was gonna say Spring but that's just wishful thinking) in order to get enough servers to handle the traffic they anticipate.

Here's an example of the undertone in most of their releases, Sony is again telling me that they're in no hurry to get their releases out, and maybe I shouldn't be in a hurry to get them?

At the same time, the rest of the gaming industry is telling me that I'm going to move from game to game so quickly that it doesn't matter if each one is perfectly polished.

Who's right? We'll see in eight or so years wont we...In a way, Sony is pushing to change the game market just as much as Nintendo, albeit in a totally different direction.

@Tiberian:Thanks. I try. The funny thing is, Peter can not be the only guy who feels this way. The PS3 is approaching the two year mark and they still don't have their answer to Live ready, something that has got to tick off the devs to no end and will result in Home being poorly supported by them for the next six months, thus resulting in users wondering what the hell they've been waiting for all this time. It's a dangerous cycle that will end up hurting PS3 users and causing devs to focus more on Live then Home.

...Yea, but the truth is...Home is still in beta and what's being delayed is a beta (not a final product). All these delays just further prove that Home will always be in beta and maybe it will be ready when the PS4 launches, but right now Home just seems like disaster.

Peter's got a point though and working for EA now, Sony's delay of Home not only effects the customers but it effects EA directly because they can't gather any real solid information on how to best work it into their multi-platform games. It will also slow down development of future titles too unless they just forgo putting anything Home related in there at all.
