I really like the idea that Marks is not aiming to sexualize Chun-Li but instead is creating a tough character. It's great how he also cited Terminator and Aliens as examples of movies with strong female protagonists. If Chun-Li can project that same sort of strength/screen presence/independence/leadership (missing the right word here) that Ripley or Sarah Connor had then I would consider Street Fighter a success.

The drooling fanboys might get upset and crack jokes such as "there should've been more shots of Chun's thighs" but honestly, who cares about them? They're the reason why games like Soul Calibur has regressed after every instalment whereas Ivy's boobs grow into cancer tumours.

Note: I'm also a huge Buffy the Vampire Slayer fan and think she should be included on the list of strong females in tv/film. I'd consider Xena as well but only after you take away the cleavage.

@Topic: I'm not so pessimistic or naïve to call a film good or bad until I actually see it, but I do like these guys enthusiasm. Justin Marks seems to have his head in the right place, and the fact that he cited Batman Begins as inspiration shows that he and Andrzej Bartkowiak at least wants this film to be taken seriously. Nothing like quoting the film that set the bar to at least show you at know how to disseminate the gold from the garbage.

I'm also glad that Marks is looking at all angles to tell this films story and is knowledgeable of the Animated Movie (Live-Action Li Vs. Vega? Fuck yes!), as well as trying to stay close to Street Fighter's storyline (yes, it does have one naysayers), all the while filling the gaps that have pretty much been guess work in different media; such as Bisons origins.

From this interview, I'm honestly hoping they can turn the tide. It's not an easy task, but if you want films like these to succeed, you at least have to try to act like you give a damn about the material your working with. The best way to have a film tank is by showing your ass to the audience going to see it.

I don't want to see the fan film that is devoid of substance, but heavy on the fan-wank (Advent Children, anyone?). On the other hand, I don't want to see the good film that has nothing to do with the source material (The Spirits Within). Neither is particularly bad, but they are far too extreme for me. We need some middle ground like Silent Hill or Fatal Fury: The Motion Picture, that blends original concepts with new ones to create something for everybody.

Well, Marks has already said the things I wanted to hear, though I've heard the right words and got the wrong film before (*grimaces at Spider-Man 3*), but it's going to come regardless and I'll try to give it a chance, because if we as fans don't, who will?
