I agree with some other comments in that, while it's cool, these features are useless to me. I own about 200 DVDs, and 10 Blu Rays, and don't even have time to watch all the movies I want, let alone spend more time on special features.

(Okay, so HD-DVD had the goofy extras, too. I'm looking at you, Tokyo Drift...)

I know HD is the new fad and all, but here's what I want to know: would people consider the benefits of using higher-capacity media like BR with standard-definition video? Say packing an entire season's worth of a standard-def television show onto one disc, rather than spread across 4-5? Or would they cry and insist everything has to be HD (even if the source material was never presented as such?)

From what I recall of the first MIB DVD, its commentary mode was actually pretty dang neat, done with football play-style drawings directly on the screen and Mystery Science Theater-style silhouettes on the bottom rather than purely audio. I don't know of any other movie that has something like that.

Okay, for the first time I've finally found some useful feature in this whole Blu-Ray internet connected stuff. They can now actually see how many people use these features! So, when they see that less than 0.0001% of all buyers use this crap then maybe we can go back to just a movie on a god damn disc! At least in the 80's and 90's we could press a button and shit would fast-forward to the movie. So much for technological improvement.

@Madness: Trivia: Did you know the aliens in MIB weren't actually CG characters, but were animatronic puppets made by stapling together thousands of Q-Tips? And Tommy Lee Jones wasn't even human! The producers of the movie took a really, really old, sallow catcher's mitt and put it over the end of a broom stick, and had a marionette artist move him around the soundstage!

It's gems like this you'll be missing out on.

I've ripped DVDs to be playable on my ipod, and I've found that when I want to rewatch those movies I prefer to just hook up the ipod to the TV and watch in poor resolution rather than deal with the hassle of bloated DVDs.

When can I have multi-terrabyte AppleTV-like set top box? I'm ready to rip my entire movie collection to a hard drive and ditch the discs.

I'd say it's too early to call it a "classic", but it was a pretty good popcorn-type flick. I still haven't seen the second one yet :\ .

I agree though, all we need is bloatware in our movies now too. After seeing the articles about the possibilities of putting commercials mid-disc (I would assume similiar to how TV stations do when you watch shows online), i'm beginning to think the world is getting interactive and online enough. And i'm as tech geek/IT guy as anyone.

Disney is by far the worst for previews... they bombard you over and over with trailers for upcoming films, or films on dvd going into the "vault" soon etc...

I just want a movie you pop in and are done with... The only extras ive ever cared for are deleted scenes/bloopers. I cant even stand the piracy warnings anymore.

@elementary: I remember when I got my first DVD long ago, that's just how it was. I popped in the disc and it started right up - not even a preview! I thought it was absolutely glorious, but as time passed, the DVDs became more and more like VHS tapes, packed with previews and nonsense at the beginning. Some DVDs nowadays you can't even skip this crap! Granted, the one thing I always watch on the special features section is the gag reel. Good stuff. Most of the time.
