@Gizmo54: I bought Boom Blox a few days ago. Haven't gotten lots of playtime with it, probably around two hours (GTA IV is eating up most of it), but so far, I really like it.

First of all, this isn't Shenmue or Bioshock or something like these games. If you think Boom Blox, think Tetris. It's a game where you basically throw stuff at towers made of blocks to get the towers to fall down.

If you think that destroying the Jenga tower is the best part of playing Jenga, then this game is for you. It's essentially a full game which mainly consists of destroying Jenga towers. With explosions. While walking blocks which look like cows watch from the sidelines.

As for the gameplay itself, each "level" is a kind of puzzle. The idea is to get certain blocks to touch the ground by throwing as few balls as possible (in some levels, you move blocks instead of throwing balls, or throw bombs instead of balls, but the basic idea remains the same).

Levels are often set up as kind of Rube Goldberg devices: The trick is to find out how you can start a chain reaction which will bring the whole thing tumbling down. Sometimes, it's obvious; sometimes, you need to look at the thing for a bit; sometimes, it's trial and error, but often, the solution ends up being pretty clever.

The graphics are not too great, but the physics really shine. It's quite astonishing that this runs on the Wii. Explosions can send hundreds of blocks flying in all directions, interacting with each other, landing in piles or pushing other blocks off. You can move the camera around the level while explosions occur, which gives the whole thing a kind of Matrix-y feel.

There's a multiplayer mode, but I haven't yet tested it. You can also create your own levels, which should be pretty awesome.

In the end, it's a fun little game. It's not some kind of huge A-list title. It's essentially a game about throwing balls at blocks to make them fall down, but it's a damn fun game about throwing balls at blocks to make them fall down.

For those not in the know (probably a lot of people), it's not an action baseball game but more like a statistics sim where you act as the GM/owner, trying to balance fielding a competitive team with making money (you control everything from how much you spend on scouting & medical staff to how much you charge for beer at the stadium). If you're any kind of baseball stats geek/fantasy baseball fan, you should give this a go. There's also an online version that basically operates like fantasy baseball (setting up leagues with others, drafts, trades, etc) except that you can play year round even when actual baseball isn't going on.

I hope this game does really well and pull the wool over some people's eyes. It has to work based on concept alone. Gravity is supposedly in check and therefore should make for some interesting situations when it comes to smashing some of these puzzles. I can't wait.
