Comment on Guitar Hero III Revisits Its Muse I hate it when they compare Radiohead and Muse. They are both great bands, but very different. Both of them are extremely talented, and would be fun to play on rock star and guitar hero. There are better songs from Radiohead then creep to. In Rainbows album is so great. Jigsaw falling into place would be awesome to play.

PieroPhoenix

No advice on other bands, sorry just avoid supermassive as it is possibly their worst song from all the albums.

StuiWooi

I'm excited to see Muse again, though I would have much preferred to see it on Rock Band. Always wanted to destroy the lyrics to one of their impossibly long held out notes.

Oh and MUSIC?

*Um, The New Pornographers are not nearly as intense as Muse, but still feel as new and fresh.

*Coheed and Cambria can be amazing if you are willing to deal with the angry ranting of Highschool student haters. But they can be very epic at times, or simply puzzlingly good in their older albums.

*Say Anything are a band then can jump back in forth between nothing special and incredible through to course of one song.

*Radiohead are appearently Muse's main influence. Muse is suppose to be some kind of successor to "Old Radiohead" (aka before they got weird.) But I just tried getting into them too late, and couldn't feel it. But chances are you already like them. A lot.

*"...And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead" isn't nearly as deathmetal as its name makes it seem. Their later albums are as new and unique as music is going to get at this point. Definitely worth hearing the whole album of "Worlds Apart" straight through.

Anyway, I hope this list has one you like!

Bluetom

@tubby: They've always written songs, the problem with Ire Works is that a)It's very unfocused, b)They started repeating themselves (There are riffs lifted straight from Calculating Infinity and Miss Machine) and c)Sound very undecided as to where they're heading.

Don't get me wrong, Black Bubblegum, for example, is a great song... but Milk Lizard is an exercise in pointlessness.

zoesch

I'd demand In Your World from Muse as its one of the greatest songs ever thought a bit pointless for guitar hero as I dont own it...

I would very much like Paranoid Android from Radiohead in it, any fans of Muse should check it our and see why theyre king and have Muse fast against the wall to paraphase the song and insert Muse in to it to illustrate my preference of one band over the other while liking both.

I officially hate US radio btw.. we have plenty of good bands... many more than people think... just that most of them dont get too much air time... the UK's not too much better off but its still better off.

SaanZ

AWESOME. I vowed never to buy another GHIII track pack, especially since Rock Band kicks its ass, rips out its heart, and politely hands it to them in a little baggy, but this track pack is a must. Now I'd just like them in Rock Band. I never even heard of them before GHIII, and now I have all of their CDs. Absolution and Black Holes and Revelations being my favorite. Supermassive Black Holes is probably my least favorite song on the album, but the other two are great songs. I've been listening to both albums non stop the past couple of months actually, so this is pretty cool to hear. I still want Muse in Rock Band though.

finalgearsolid

To all the people saying those songs aren't good choices and would rather have Starlight and other songs:

The songs they picked are guitar heavy songs. Starlight is mostly bass and drums with the signature piano riff... there is guitar, but not enough for a guitar game.

And Exo-Polotics, Supermassive Black Hole, and Stockholm Syndrome are all super fun to play on a real guitar so I would imagine that it would be fun in a game too.

The thing to realize is that a lot of Muse songs rely heavily on Bass. Chris W. does not get the credit he deserves. All three of those guys rock though.

somekindarobit

DEP used to be one of the most savage and destructive mathcore bands around (After all they sorta invented the genre) unfortunately they stopped honing their craft and pulled a Metallica. They are now the slower calmer version of their former selfs... which I'm not really digging at all.

Mike, radio isn't the only way to listen to music. I recommend you use Pandora (www.pandora.com). You suggest an artist that you like (in this case Muse) and the website will play you music of that artist and similar artists.

You could also use last.fm (which I think is completely awesome) which is a social/music networking website. It recompiles data based on the music that you listen to while on the computer and recommends you similar artists. You can also see what music your friends are listening too. That way you can find out new music.

You could also listen to Frecuencias Alternas every saturday at 9pm. It's a radio show from Puerto Rico. It's in spanish but they play music from all around the world. It's a pretty great show and I've discovered new artists with them.
Listen it at [www.wrtu.pr]
That's the radio station address but they'll have a website up soon.

haran_elessar

It's a side project from the guys from Cult Of Luna and other Swedish post-metal bands, it's sorta like a groovier and heavier version of Muse (The vocalist sounds quite similar but there's plenty of differences in tone and singing style not to label him a copycat). Hope you guys enjoy!

zoesch

Comment on Guitar Hero III Revisits Its Muse Yes spni! Someone else appreciates the awesomeness that is amplifier!!

As far as recommendations go here's my current/all time favourites,
most of which include the greatest songs that should have been in a GH
by now

Amplifier - amplifier / the astronaut dismantles HAL
Dream theater - metropolis pt2 / awake
Sonata arctica - unia / winterhearts guild
Nevermore - enemies of reality
Symphony x - the odyssey

Really I'd recommend ANYTHING by any if the above! They're the few
bands of who I actually like all their records! Not counting bands
you're sure to have heard of like megadeth or pink floyd (slight
contrast :-)

Cheers

Muse is one of my favorite bands and this makes me happy even though I only own the Wii version. -However-, I don't like any of these songs except for supermassive black hole. If they would've added Thoughts of a dying atheist then I would've rushed out and bought GH3 for my 360. That song has the coolest guitar solo I have ever heard to this date.

eskimo-bob

I love their music (in particular Black Holes and Origin of Symmetry) and their are the only band I have ever seen live. Small concert back in Belgium right after their first CD came out and before they were well known. Even then Matthew Bellamy was unbelievable in the way he handled his guitar.

Considering they wouldn't have chosen old songs, those 3 aren't a bad selection of the recent albums. Now I really wish I'd have a PS3 to be able to play download this package instead of being stuck with the wii version !

Muse really haven't been shown a lot of love from America. Here in Canada, we don't hear them often on TV or radio. They are unknown to a lot of my friends, even if they're listening to a lot of music. Time is running out and supermassive black hole were played but that's it. I don't know about USA but they doesn't seem to have been played at all ! I wish they would so we could get some tour dates more often !

@BitterAndThenSome: I've seen Dillinger Escape Plan in show, before AFI and it's clearly one of my worst musical experience ever. I know that tastes aren't questionnable but I hope you don't really like them.

Shteve

Muse might be my favorite band discovery this decade. Oceansize (someone above mentioned 'em) is virtually tied for that spot, though. Fairly similar sound, but less mainstream, more proggy (but don't worry, they're not prog wanksters like dream theater).

Anyways, as much as I love Muse, and am happy they'll be getting more exposure, I'm gonna have to say NOOOOOoooOoOoOOOoooOOo!!! These songs need to come out on Rock Band! I just have a feeling that any time something comes out for GHIII, Activision tries to pull some kind of exclusivity deal for the songs or the bands. Of course I'm sure MTV/EA/Harmonix tries to do the same thing, but their game is way more fun, so I don't mind as much...

jimb213

Muse are one of the best live bands, because of you comment you only check bands from music games I'm only going to suggest bands that are probably not going to show up on them:

The Flaming Lips-Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots
Violent Femmes-Violent Femmes
Sea Wolf-Leaves In the River
Hard-Fi -Stars of CCTV
Presidents of The United States-Presidents of the United States
People In PLanes-As Far as the Eye Can See
Doves-The Last Broadcast
***Raconteurs-Consoler of The Lonely***

Heavily recommend checking the Raconteurs.

geoffcbassett

agreed on pandora, it's an excellent source of music, there are also several fine indie podcasts that can help expose you, beyond what's out there in the blogosphere.

also, try checking out the schedules of your local concert venues, see what new acts are coming through town, and look up those bands on myspace and youtube (or "acquiring" some of their stuff).

in this day and age, there's so much out there right at your fingertips, you just need to take the initiative.

HAGE
