At least you answered the question of what system they want them on. Although the PS2 would probably be out as it's almost at it's end over here. A Xenogears remake, hah hah like that will happen. When Square stops spending all it's time making flashy FF games then that will happen. I'm talking about IX, I'm talking 'X' , 'XIII' and 'XIII versus'. Not to mention they constantly milking the hell out of FF7. Considering folks keep saying that there could be a possible remake for 'FFVII' that still hasn't been confirmed. The last bit of info I heard was that if it were to happen 'Nomura' wasn't going to be involved. Why would he want to spend time working on something from the past when he can move ahead? Seiken Densetsu 3? Shocking. Considering that something to that extent was going to happen, but guess what we got 'Heroes of Mana'. What they should do is just update it and have it translated for the 'Wii's VC'. Or release it for the DS. To be honest I wouldn't want to seem them messing with it. The games graphics were good enough as it is. What kind of remake would you do? 'Sword of Mana' comes to mind and that was a waste. I just didn't like the graphics. Again Square spends to much time on flashy FF games that they botched the last 'Mana' game. So many fans were disappointed. With a small trickle of fans that did like it. Gee, another great series that Square just ignores. And when they get back to it they screw it up. Persona series? I heard it mentioned that it WAS supposed to happen but there has been no confirmation. But I'd be happy to see it. Tactics Ogre? Really? Romancing Saga? I'd rather see this on the DS. Updated but left intact. That 3D remake for the PS2 was the most attrocious looking thing graphic-wise I ever seen. This is the one time I ever had an issue with a 2D game remade into 3D. Hell, even FFIV on the DS looked better than that. It's like they just rushed it. DQ got it's remakes and put on the DS, why not this? Again another series we should have gotten years ago. Another series equally popular as the FF series. But once again forgotten. Hell, if they took the time of releasing 'Front Mission' here why not that? FFIX? I can't see what they would change other than texture smoothing in the game. I can't imaging seeing 'Zidane' and company looking overly realistic. They were meant to be designed the way they were. Not SD like folks think. Fantasy like. That's what a fantasy game is all about. Surely folks know what 'D&D' is all about. Humans, orcs, hobbits, elves, etc... Not flashy, moody, chain choker, "emo" boys and 'KH' rip-offs that are taking over the scene now. That's why they're so hard up for a 'FF7' remake. Wild Arms 2? Well, I guess anything on the PS1 needs a remake. That's why 'WA: Alter Code F' was made. So does this mean that we've run out of ideas so bad that we HAVE to keep remaking classics? I like remakes as much as anybody, but it has to be done right. But sometimes a remake is in order especially when no one has access to the original product. So I'm not totally against the idea. Look at FFT. I wouldn't mind playing a remake of 'Romancing Saga' on the DS, or finally have access to 'Seiken Densetsu 3', hell, I wouldn't mind seeing a Xenogears, or Persona remake. But I would not bother with a FF7 remake. I played it and now I'm done. I really enjoyed Chrono Cross, and I wouldn't mind that upgraded. Already a 3D game, with really vibrant environments - I think it'd look just stunning in HD. Just thinking of that one area that had the almost Van Gogh-esque painted background still makes me happy.

FFIX was my favourite FF game. The characters were really endearing with well-written dialogue, and I like the classic touch. I don't think a FFVII remake is necessary, but some of the details of that story have changed with the rest of the compilation, and I think a remake would have to get some tweaking in its script to mesh back in with the newer games.

A remake really would ruin a game like CT, unless of course, it's just HD sprites and tweaked translation. @KeroseneClimax: While you make some interesting points, and I too personally am not a big fan of remakes, some remakes are welcome whether or not the original because no matter how great we loved the original game, there might have been something you wanted to change about it. You can't change that element about a movie; a movie relies solely on its storytelling abilities. For a game, you can tweak the controls, you can fix incomprehensible translation, and even make it available to a new market. I know I'd welcome a FF7 remake and probably dislike a 3D remake of any 2D game mentioned on the list. Advent Children made me think that they could remake FFVII and still capture the magic that game had. A 2D -> 3D transition loses that element the game first had. If they fixed the rushed result of Xenogears, I would gladly appreciate it. I'd hope it had HD sprites and more detailed Gear models, but other than that, the game is great.

To add to my list a game I'd love to see remade, it'd be Shadow of the Colossus. I know it's soon, but oh man, that game would benefit so much from PS3 graphics. The hair on the beasts, how much more expansive the landscape could get, the water, I'm getting excited thinking about it. Our beloved 2D classics, they transcended graphics with gameplay, but still managed to capture our hearts with memorable and likable sprites.

The reason I want FFVII remade so badly is not because it's my favorite RPG of all time (which it's not), it's because the graphics, while great for their time, are far from perfect. Removing Cloud's block hands would not ruin my nostalgia for the game one bit.

Most people that played chrono trigger back in the time are probably now in their early thirties. Looking at the results of the poll, Degenki's readers are mostly in their twenties, and as such the strongest memories for them are bond to the PS1 era, not the SNES era, that's why obvious masterpieces like Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy VI aren't in the list.

Then they just have to update on the graphics, add voices, redo cutscenes, and add extra content. The bigger ones (like FF7 and FF9, I loved 9...) I'd like to see on the PS3. Like films, I feel classics don't need a contemporary retelling. I have and enjoy the original The Hitcher with Rutger Hauer and C. Thomas Howell, why would I need the crappy 2007 version? It boggles me how much people care about graphics then taking a game on it's own merit. If Final Fantasy VII was such a great game, why does it need to be "improved"?

Either way, despite my personal opinions on remakes, I do know that there are exceptions to the rule (Resident Evil on GC comes to mind), so if I absolutely had to choose a game that I would want a modern reimagining, it would have to be Xenogears, Legend of Dragoon, and Gundam Wing: Endless Duel (Arc System Works as Devs). I'm not going to be the guy petitioning for these to be remade, but I damn sure won't be the guy complaining either if they were.

Agreed. The music, the characters, the battle system...it's just so refreshing to see a JRPG that doesn't try to be insanely unique and end up being insanely stereotypical.

Instead, it looks back at what made older RPGs great and, I dunno. It feels like an homage to the classics of the PS1 era and before.

Not to mention it's just undeniably pretty. To this day it's probably one of the only Unreal Engine 3 games I've ever played where the graphics and art style have impressed me!

I'm the same way about Lost Odyssey, myself. P3's a great game, I have FES down in my living room, but Lost Odyssey's the only JRPG in a while that's taken and KEPT my attention...it's probably because it's not trying to be an entire anime series compressed into one disc, unlike most modern JRPGs.

But ah well, it's my favorite genre, I'm just getting pickier as I get older. And I still will cry and/or kill people if FF6 gets a cheap-ass DS remake and not a console or PSP one with actual graphics and voice acting in it. =/

And I felt like the tactics gave me enough control over the other characters in P3 that I rarely felt handicapped by it. For example, I just set Mitsuru to Full Assault all the time so she would do what she was good at (namely, blasting the shit out of things with Ice spells) and not the annoying stuff (status effects).

I might be just letting my love for Persona 3 bias my feelings on the other two games though. I just finished the original game on FES last night, I'm going to probably start the Answer tomorrow. It's probably the first time I've enjoyed a JRPG this much in years.

I tried to play Persona 2 a few months ago and honestly couldn't get the battle system at all. Perhaps it was because I was playing the game on a PS1 emulator, but it just seemed weird, it felt like I didn't have any control over the battles, and I hate that. It just felt weird.

P3's battle system is novel, but I can't stand having no control over my teammates. I can never be sure if they're going to be smart, or fuck me over. That and it discourages creative battle strategies, as you can never be sure what they're going to do. That's not to say either game is bad, though.

This is mainly because it was looked on as Final Fantasy coming back to its roots (aka Final FANTASY, as opposed to Final Futuristic Sci-Fi Thriller). In fact, it is also viewed by Sakaguchi Hironobu, the creator of the Final Fantasy series, as his favorite Final Fantasy game.

In other words, yes, FF IX definitely has quite a few fans out there. Just not as many as FF VII.
