This kind of callous peripheral addition shows that some companys have been completely asleep at the wheel (or wheel-less skateboard) while Nintendo has succeeded. They honestly think people will want to lean side-to-side while holding a controller?
The Wii balance board will get into homes due to its killer app, Wii Fit. Then games like Tony Hawk and even Raving Rabbids can include balance board functionality.
This skateboard has it backwards, but at least it gives us all a chance to laugh haughtily.

These are THIRD PARTY PERIPHERALS. This is no different than what we've seen for pretty much every gen. MS is not trying to rip off the Wii or anything. These are 3rd party peripherals.

Microsoft has seen Nintendo's success and is trying get a piece of the pie, so to speak. If Microsoft truly had faith in the "hardcore" consumer to carry them financially, we wouldn't be hearing about any of this. What we have here is Microsoft admitting that Nintendo were the better businessmen. People may not like the concept of the expanded audience, but more and more it looks like it is the direction that will ensure gaming doesn't become a giant money pit and vanish.
