I have to agree. When I got GH3 for christmas, the first thing I noticed was that they focused on the singer too much and that he was the ugliest thing I've ever seen. Then later on Tom Morello showed up and I had to retract that statement.

This is not the fault of Guitar Hero. This is a good description of Steven Tyler in REAL LIFE. In fact, I think that may be a direct quote from an issue of Rolling Stone Magazine. Just take out the part about graphics and change "models" to "band members."

The 2-D animation does'nt bug me. In fact I for one am happy to see actual "cel" animation being used in a video game. Never really cared for the muppet look of the lead singer from GH3 though. so I was'nt to shocked at how awful the 3d models for the bad look. :\ Ahwell.

But even though it's awesome, it's still no reason to pour the Hatorade on this title. It's Guitar Hero, man! Never been a graphical or artistic showcase, not even when Harmonix was in charge - and really why should it bother to be? When I'm playing the game, my eyes are glued to the fret board, and when I'm watching others play it I'm usually too busy laughing at their stupid antics to watch the screen.

We can all agree Guitar Hero is incredible fun and has made many of us appreciate music in a whole new way. We can all agree that Aerosmith were and still are a hugely successful and influential rock band - whatever your personal tastes in music happen to be. Putting the two together is a natural and - dare I say it - great idea. I can't fucking wait to play 'Walk This Way' and 'Living on the Edge', graphics be damned.

Rock Band is no doubt incredible, but that still doesn't take away from the fact that the core gameplay mechanic of Guitar Hero will always be awesome fun so long as it has good music. For fans of both Aerosmith and rock music in general this game fits the bill. Where's the love, baby?

But the thing is, if we can get the songs we want, and they keep coming out for the same game we own (instead of hoping the majority of songs are good in a retail box) AND the game looks so good* then that is where a line is drawn.

*not only do the graphics just seem better AND the art style more suitable and just plain cool (instead of attempted), but the animations are TOP NOTCH.

I must say, though. The Aerosmith models look fantastic. Too bad the crappy character models from GH3 (Seriously, did you TRY for ugly??) are what will be shown the majority of the time.

Honestly, this actually looks WORSE than GH3 to me. I don't know why. (ok, beyond what I previously stated)

But I love all these music games, a lot. For me, it's more about the interaction than the artists. I like some songs more than others, but I'm sure Aerosmith has a few catchy tunes for me to rock out to.

As long as the mechanics aren't broken, I'll probably pick it up eventually.

If you're complaining about the avatars in a Guitar Hero game, you are missing the fucking point. It's all about the music. They could render Aerosmith as kindergarten stick-figure drawings and I couldn't give two tugs of a dead dog's cock. So long as the music plays in time...

@Eddy666: Actually, I believe it has to do with the art direction. It's rather un-appealing. You can have an excellent resolution, fancy bloom, whatever, but if the style you chose is ugly, the end product will be ugly.
And that's the main issue there- it's not that the character models lack realism, it's that they lack any class.
They disgust the viewers. Rock Band has essentially the same level of realistic graphics, they just chose an excellent art style that complements the game instead of repelling.

I think you really underestimate the power of good tunes. Good music is great regardless of age. I knew of Aerosmith when I was 13. I also knew The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Zep, all bands way before "my time." Don't assume that just because you are older means that you know more about music than kids.

Though I don't like the idea of an all Aerosmith version (until it's like 20 bucks), you have to admit a song in which a guy yells "YOU ARE MY GUITAR HERO!" is somewhat perfect for this game.

The in-game graphics were expected. They look like GH3's. But the little cartoons (which they also had in GH3) leave me with a WTF feeling. Is it just me or does Steven Tyler, Joe Perry, and the gang look really disturbing in that 2D cartoon form? Even worse than the 3D versions? o_O

Complete Control is an odd choice, since it's already in Rock Band. I really hope that between this and the stuff in On Tour, it doesn't become a trend. I don't want big selling points in GHIV to be Won't Get Fooled Again and Highway Star.
