They just revealed the first 3 venues and the respective tracklists.

Also, out of the entire tracklist, only 20 will be new to the series. So in that regard you can keep your pitchforks at the ready.

I have been a long time fan of Guitar Hero and now that they finally jumped the shark with this monstrosity. Really, 3 good songs? Seriously? I think now It is really time to make the dramatic switch to Rock Band, so I can avoid more shark jumps like this. (A game based on Aerosmith??!? Seriously Red Octane??!)

If no-one else noticed also, this game only has 4 buttons. So that pretty much eliminates Hard and Expert mode, which takes the fun right out of this game.

Its time to announce the final nail in Guitar Heroes coffin. Thanks for the memories Red Octane.

What did you expect, with Guitar Hero going onto the DS? Some of those songs are awesome anyway. Daughtry and Maroon 5 are the only major disappointments, but does any Guitar Hero game have only "good" music - according to music snobs?

What you SHOULD be crying about is there only being 15-25 songs. That's like, nothing, whether the songs are good or not.

On this game, people... it's portable. Whether or not there are songs you've seen before is not the point. You can't very well take your home theater and big plastic guitars around town in your back pocket, can you? You gotta look at this as a portable experience. Certainly, if Activision tried to pass this off as a console release, all this hoopla would be justified, but since you are talking about a portable title then you have to cut the developer some slack.

Also, we don't even know if this is the FINAL tracklist. This could simply be the starting list. There may be 25+ songs on here after all.

3 easy songs from GH3 (Hit Me With Your Best Shot, Rock and Roll All Nite, Helicopter)
3 songs from Rock Band and Rock Band DLC (or announced DLC) with fairly boring guitar parts (All the Small Things, Breed, Are You Gonna Be My Girl)
4 songs that are actually good for the series (Jessie's Girl, Heaven, China Grove, We're Not Gonna Take It)
3 songs wholly inappropriate for the series (This Love, Spiderwebs, What I Want)
2 "meh" new songs (Do What You Want, All Star)

So, we're now looking at $35+peripheral for all of 4 songs that are new and interesting. Unless the input method feels really cool, not worth the purchase.

Everybody's got to complain. Why, because it's the easier thing to do. I know 8 of the tracks by name and what they sound like, one I know and don't care, one I know but not aS cover version, and the rest I just don't know. So to me, at least half of the list is good, and the others are potentials until I can hear them which is simple enough with black magic call the internet.

As for songs being seen before, There have been 5 guitar games when you include Rock the 80's and six if you include the upcoming Aerosmith addition. At this point, all the popular songs have been used. I don't mind seeing a few from a different genre.

As for the $50 pricetag...don't forget, you're speaking about software and hardware. $15 for the hardware really ain't that bad.

It's that I can't picture many of these songs having remotely interesting guitar tracks. If this were Rock Band some of these would be fun songs...but just for guitar?

The only tracks that could be fun are those already available either through GHIII or RB.

I can't believe how many people would prefer to continue expanding RB with DLC vs. having an annual (or even semi-annual) disc release.

I've purchased about 20 songs since RB came out, which is about $40 worth of content. I enjoy ALL of the songs, but I still would rather have a new disc sometime this summer.

1) It gives EVERYBODY a new set of songs all at once. I'm tired of only sharing one or two songs with people when I get online, if any.

2) It's WAY less money. $60 for 50+ songs, or $60 for 30?

3) My HDD can only hold so much content before it's out of space. I only have a 20GB. A new disc gives me 50-60 new songs and doesn't take up a single bit of extra space beyond a save file.

4) HMX has already discussed future RBs being backwards compatible with DLC. Which means your 20-40 songs don't suddenly become worthless.

The average Rock Band song is $2, right? Say you want 15 songs at $2 a piece, yet you never purchase a song pack. That's $30 gone. If it was 30 songs, that's $60, the price of a brand new game which, most likely, would contain A LOT more songs than that in addition to a full video game. Of course, you could start buying packs. That CD that was just released was $15. Of course, you aren't guaranteed to like all the songs on the album.

Can you see how your money can start to vanish? Sure, you'll get exactly what you want, but can you see how these companies are sucking the money from your wallet?

Both Rock Band and GHIII (hell, every rhythm game I've ever bought) comes with a handful of songs that I dig and a bunch I'm "meh" about in the dev's effort to make the game as all inclusive as possible. DLC allows me to alienate the general populous in exchange to rock out to the songs I wanna rock out to, with less ephemera to go along with it.

Seriously think about that for a minute: What is the difference between , say, $30 for two CDs worth of DLC on Rock Band and a new retail entry of Guitar Hero? What is the difference other than one is disc-based and the other is not? Sure, you may like the songs from one venue as opposed to the other, but you are still shelling out money for more of the same experience. Some people act like Activision is killing the music, but MTV and EA are doing the same thing, only you enjoy their work more because (1) digital content enamors you because it's a concept that is still fresh and new, and (2) you are still upset that Harmonix left the Guitar Hero franchise so you now feel extremely resentful of anything that may come out marked "Guitar Hero" in the future.

Obviously they haven't added much for the diehard GH players, no Maiden or Dragonforce much less anything else, but did you really think they would?
ANY game that gets released on the DS these days is targeted at the "Mainstream" audience. That is, easy games for kids and grandmas that are shit but will sell a bunch and any noob can finish in a day.

Though as it stands, 15 songs is nowhere near worth it for a game like this. 25 was pushing it!

Duplicate tracks from GHIII, as well as tracks from RB make this setlist fail.

Seriously, if Activision is trying to set itself apart from RB...it needs to include songs that aren't already on that game. Because if I have a choice between a four-fret version of JET and the full band rendition, you can bet your ass I'm not going with GH.

That's a negative. I am pretty sure that was Activision's idea. Harmonix had to develop it. I think that was their first 'joinit' venture. I can place some of the blame on Harmonix, but Activision was definitely involved in that one. Regardless, the franchise is being run into the ground.
