It's not that hard. I beat normal with 76% accuracy and got a little bit into the Hard song. Though the Hard one is just hard to do because I have to alternate between my pinky and switching my index and middle fingers. It's not a normal hand position.

But aside from that, yes, this is whoring out a game franchise to the absolute max.

@TheDoomer: Well said, good sir.

@dunnace: It's the attitude that is different. If you ever play Rock Band or the first two Guitar Heroes, you can see and hear the quality and love put into the game. The stage work and character animations never cease to amaze me, the character design is top notch, and everything happening on/off screen is pure fun.

Guitar Hero 3 is showing the true colors of Activision. They're turning the game into Tetris, putting it anywhere and everywhere they possibly can as cheaply as they can while also getting money from in-game ads. Their stagework is mediocre at best and we won't even talk about the character animations. I was pleased to see that they were going multiplatform and show some love to the last-gen console users. However, the moment you take the guitar controller out of the game it ceases to be Guitar Hero and becomes Boom Boom Rocket without the wonderful fireworks.

The big pill though is Activision's treatment of Harmonix regarding guitar cross-compatability on the PS3. The best thing to come out of GH3 was the Les Paul controller, and the fact that they are trying to capitalize on a system design constraint on the PS3 shows me how little respect they have for the franchise. To even go as far as to patch the 360 version of GH3 so that the Rock Band guitar wouldn't be allowed to be PLUGGED IN while running the game just makes me boil every time I boot the game up (cause inevitably I have the Rock Band controller plugged in the BACK of the console).

Needless to say, as a person who has purchased every Guitar Hero game since the first (including both platform versions of GH2), I am boycotting Activision until they get their act together.

@TheDoomer: Seriously, what's the issue? GH hasn't changed, at all. In fact, getting a big business like Activision behind it is the best thing for the series, they can afford to get more song rights. The DS version is a dream come true for me, what the hell is so wrong about portable Guitar Hero? That's an awesome idea, get 5 out of 5 from me just for the concept.

Hey, just to say, this version does work if you play it frets on fire-stylee -- i.e. hold the keyboard up like a guitar with your left hand across and onto the number keys and your right hand onto the numpad's enter key. Managed to get a 50-odd note streak on the "hard" one with that method (tried the easy one first playing it like a normal keyboard and got destroyed).

@foxhound417: I think Guitar Hero could stick around as a "high-score" game ala Pac Man CE. I don't know though it's very evident that Harmonix didn't make GH III, and I really wonder what kind of crack they do all day at Activison that makes people think "Aerosmith" edition is going to get anyone excited.

So why couldn't they rig this to run off of the wireless guitar controllers?

Anyone ever notice that when you plug the USB device into a PC, it detects the controller, and the output from the device is fairly simple? (this is with the PS3 version for me at least)

For some reason, you need to strum a bit earlier than you'd expect for all these notes. Also, the green fret is buggy. Sometimes perfectly placed strums are counted as wrong...

This game doesn't work without 3D scrolling (not that it's unplayable). At least it's true to the game with the disgustingly wide timing window. I was hitting notes before notes that were already at the bottom.

People find this hard O.o;; Im probably the worst player of guitar hero I know. I stink. Yet I was able to get 84% on easy. With a longest streak of 49.

I mean seriously this is an advert, not an entry in the series. Not only that but you mention Guitar hero ds which so far previews have been very positive about. It seems clear they are actually trying with guitar hero ds. In fact you haven't played GH:aerosmith yet either!

So basically you have decided the series is completly ruined because 3 ''wasn't all that good'' and because they made an advert. Which as far as adverts go is actually really great.

Hold it like the guitar hero controller with all the appropriate fingers on the 1-5 keys.

It's a LOT more fun and actually playable that way.

Granted it's still only a 10 minute mediocre diversion, but once you flip your keyboard upside down and hold the thing like a guitar con, it's actually quite amusing...

If you're at work though... good luck trying to convince your boss you're working if you're gonna be sitting there with your keyboard in your lap held up to your chest. haha

Damnit Activision. They've taken what was once one of my favorite games, and turned it into this crap. GH3 wasn't all that good, next the Aerosmith game, then the DS, then that terrible crap portable thing, this, constant raping of the series. I'm done with GH, it's now all Rock Band for me.
