]]> <![CDATA[GTA IV Multiplayer Down For Some PS3 Players]]> i bought the game at a local video game store on launch i only waited 40 minutes. when i came home i played offline for about 2 and a half hours then after getting the cell phone to go online with it said it couldnt find provider so i thought maybe it was because it was launch day so i waited till later on in the day to try and still no go .. so i looked in the manual and called take two games i spoke to a man that sounded like he was from the u.k but anyways i told him the problem and he asked me what time it was i told him it was 4 0clock he said that it was a peak time for users online and maybe im just experincing internet connection problems.(which i was not because i was connected to the playstation network). so then i looked around online and signed up to the rockstar social club.(which i had never done prior) after i signed up and linked my ps3 account i tried the game and went to multiplay and to my amazement it finally worked!! so i had it online for a few days and had a blast everything worked great i made my own custom online person and was having alot of fun. BUT! heres the shitty part . i tried it today may 1st and i havent been able to get online. i have been trying for the past 2 hours and still nothing.. i sure hope that it works later on because i was just starting to get use to the online and this would really piss me off if i can only play at certain times.i tried all my other online games i.e tekken 5 online (which needs a fast ass connection to play without lag), resistance, motorstorm ,skate , guitar hero 3 all worked perfectly online. so its def not my connection.. can anybody help ??

Second off all Sony is not hosting the servers, R* is and they used gamespy not Sony. Third, This is the first time R* has something online and 360 has its own servers so they didn't need to set them up while ps3 gets dedicated. This also means well have a faster connection based on the people around us which is why dedicated is better than P2P.

Tried again at about 6:30 am EST and was able to get to the game select screen and launch the tutorial, but every actual game I attempted to join or host kicked me with the error "Lost connection to one or more players." and dumped me back to single player.

Love the game over all though. I know that the multiplayer issues will be resolved soon and everything else is just awesome.

Pretty close. I've had Live for over four years, and the only unplanned outage I can recall was this past Christmas, and even then it was never totally out. They learned from that and did server updates before the GTA release.

I suspect it's an issue with Rockstar as the PSN is still going strong. I have to say, when I was online with it I had a great time. My mate came to pick me up in a helicopter and I went skydiving above the skyscrapers... without a 'chute. I recommend it, the sensation of falling is amazing.

The best thing to do is bypass your router and connect directly to your modem, if you can... Oh! enable Upnp on your router also.

I'm not entirely sure how the multiplayer system goes. Umm. the games been out for less than 48 hours and some people are pissed that they can't connect to the what, Millions, of other players. Take a chill pill. Play some single player and don't worry- All the problems will be ironed out. I really didn't think that multiplayer was going to work right off the bat. Don't get me wrong, I've been primed about multiplayer since I first heard about it. And Jesus, wouldn't it be awesome if every thing worked without a hitch, alas it isn't a perfect world. GTA is freezing on both systems for different reasons. Rockstar will issue a patch (these are the times we live in) and all will be right with the world (except for war, famine, global warming and the like). Or else there will be hell to pay.

Also to all the 360 fanboys who posted before. Relax. Yes, I know you abhor the PS3. Yes, I know that LIVE *never* craps out. Yes I know your system can play this game online right now. Good for you. You are a better people for buying the 360. Really you are. I...I love you man.

I'm glad Sony does it that way, since that's why several MMOs are coming to PS3 next year. It makes it easier for them to get on the console, and more appealing to end users to not have to pay extra fees if they only use the game's servers. Also works just fine for many other games like MGO. ;)

Still not the case though. Sony does not have an unified integrated matchmaking service the same as MS has, and Sony does not provide servers for third party games. These issues will continue to pop up until the above two things change.

Live has plenty of distance still between it and the PSN, Things such as the movie service(not available to me here in japan, but oh well)is an overlooked one.The fact that everything is universal is the biggest advantage to me, since I know that with every live game im getting the same experience, where as in games on the PSN like resistance I couldnt connect to a match for over a year, yet I could play other games just fine. They finally fixed resistance, but I was quite annoyed. The only thing we can blame them for is not setting up universal guidlines that everyone had to follow, but if they did that then a feature that some people really like about it would likely not be there.(mods that is, although I personally dont like user mods, thats a differant debate though)

Anyways, it is sad to see that GTAIV online is down for those with the PS3 version, but place your blame on gamespy and rockstar if your going to blame someone. Sony just offers the basic platform and nothing more. (on a side note, im still a bit pissy that GTAIV isnt out here in japan, I know were getting it but must I import it?)

@DazeOfWar: alrighty...point taken but as many people that like to stand on the soapbox and proclaim the virtues of Live as if it's the second coming of Christ, I believe the overall argument (at least from my perspective) is

a) does PSN offer P2P and dedicated servers - yes

b) does PSN offer voice chat and stat tracking - yes

c) does PSN offer friends list and invites to games and options to customize matches - yes

d) does that make PSN better than Live - no

E) does that mean that PSN service is terrible - no

For the GTAIV online issues...see the beginning of this post...

But this constant redundant, broken record argument "as if the world sees the 360 as a RRoD POS, so the MS Defense Force MUST tout the virtues of LIVE to for the masses"...is getting old. LIVE IS the better service, that has been established...but I challenge anyone to tell the legions that are playing MGO, Warhawk, Resistance and CoD 4 on PSN that the service is trash.

They could have very well been without service for that long. I was without service for 24 hours. The guy above you was without service for 72 hours. YOU said Live didn't work for months and for ALL GAMES. That is absolutely incorrect.
