I don't think it would matter what TV they used to play it, as I'm guessing they're all direct feeds taken from the console.

Unless someone already toyed with the brightness, contrast, and saturation settings on the PS3, on default it does look more vibrant (especially on the scene driving along the defunct boardwalk). I'm going to try later today to see if I can get a similar picture out of my 360 copy.

Now I'm trying to wonder why you bought 2 copies of the game.

On the other hand i'm wary of getting into console gaming. I'd like a ps3 and a nice HDTV to play it on, but that will cost me upwards of 2000 dollars. Too rich for my blood. I'll just stick to Pc gaming where I can make my rig as cheap or as expensive as I want

I agree with Witzold on this one: you really have to be picking at straws to come to any conclusions as to which version is better, based on this video. Sure, the Xbox 360 screens look a little brighter, perhaps less warm than the PS3 screens, but that has always been the case. In the car driving segment, it looked like the Xbox 360 had better shadow and lighting effects on the car, but on the beach scene, it looked like the PS3 had better sheen effects on the sand. Honestly, I didn't see much pop-in from either version.

Theoretically, the PS3 would have less pop-in because it requires a hard-drive install, whereas, the Xbox 360 uses it's superior video ram instead.

But does it matter? No. The games look practically identical. Go play it and stop yer bitchin!

Also, there is not a problem with keeping generations of older consoles around. One PC can play either natively or through emulators pretty much all games released for PC since the beginning of PC gaming as well as a lot of console games (generally one generation behind).

It's been my general opinion that the PS3 tends to have a LITTLE more natural lighting than the 360, but flaws/benefits of this depend on the game and only really become apparent in these side-by-side comparisons. Without a point of reference, there would essentially be no difference. Depending on your point of view, this can be a tribute to the 360 being able to perform on par with PS3 games so well (an extra 4 cores to gain sun sparkles!) or a bash on the developers for not pushing the PS3 to its full potential. That argument however is hard to back up since so many different multi-platform games have had the same comparison results.

As great as the game seems so far, everybody talking about colors this or pop-in that, is missing the elephant in the corner here: the hideous jaggies crawling across everything in the game. Maybe it's not so obvious in compressed video, but it made me long for a pc version already.

in a flash compressed video you'll only see major differences, like the fact that the 360 has slightly brighter colors...

but actual small differences liek aliasing/popin/texture that are as minisculy different between the 2 verisons youll never see... and saying that there is a noticible difference is bullshit stop being a fanboy

@Callidux: i heard the same about the 630p vs 720p thing, but it really doesnt matter at this point both versions look nearly identical

The Xbox can do it because they paid big bucks for the Ana scaling chip. And pointed out that the PS3 can only run in native resolutions that are the HD industry standard. If it says 720p on your tv input, it will be running in 720p.

GFX are nearly identical, controls are mostly to user preference, pop-in exists in both ( somewhat less in ps3), so the only issue left would be multiplay.

I'm thinking 360 will win on that front.

IMHO from the screenies it looks to me like the ps3 is indeed 'warmer' which is not to my tastes. don't know about you lot - but you only get orange skinned people here after a Boots 2for1 offer.

@dazinith: I think I'm gonna get the PS3 version once I get a PS3 later this summer. Unless the downloadable content is so mindboggling that it convinces me to get it for the 360. I have yet to fully explore a GTA title before putting it away... so I'm not that hyped for DLC to it right now. But I won't buy either version until I know what it is.

@HarshCargo: Have you played both? 360 version has a slightly more stable frame rate and ps3 has less pop in...but pop in on the 360 version isnt an issue unless you are really looking for it.

Agreed. They look pretty much identical. However, as with all these 'comparisons' they are essentially useless. Until they record the video as a direct feed and leave it at the resolution it was output at it is irrelevant. Resizing anything will smooth edges and make textures look far better than they really are.

It'd have been nice if they hid the system names until the very end, so that you could remove any potential bias while watching the comparison. The names are shown at the top right and left corners throughout the vid, so I guess you can obscure your screen with something if you want to make a blind comparison.

Picture quality looks identical, but colors are a slightly more intense on one side compared to the other, particularly with the reds. However, I'd be surprised if this difference wasn't due to configuration on the reviewer's setup. With the shot of the bed, I can't tell any difference at all.
