I spent 14 years at EA from 1992-2006. Bing was the heart and soul of the organization. EA's marketing and publishing business bridged the gap when game quality and innovation weren't quite there, and that bridging brought the level of consistency that kept EA on a steady trajectory while other developers came and went. With Bing and Probst gone, and the recent departure of CFO Warren Jensen, EA's leadership is shaky at best - particularly, with a volatile CEO like Riccitello, who is more concerned with building his reputation than the business. In my opinion, EA's savior is Frank Gibeau, and the company would do well to hand him the reigns sooner rather than later.

lml

Going from personal experience dealing with Bing, I can safely say his quote is genuine...mostly. He is arrogant, for sure...brilliant, but arrogant. He'll do well at Kleiner regardless, as they know true skill when they see it.

haisano

Bing is a pretty unique character. I remember talking with him a couple years back, and as I think about what he said then, that the performance of the Wii and DS has to have really surprised him. At the time he seemed almost complacent about how the games market was shaping, and where it was headed. Then again, it can be hard to tell with Bing sometimes.

I think that all of these social networking things, Facebook and all of these other social devices, he's really gotten inspired again. Hopefully he does well at his new company.

Huckleberry
