Please consider that if a company buys exclusive content it doesn't only pay for the content!!!
It also pays for the loss the other company makes for not making money on another platform!
In any case split the 50M into half and you have approximately the real amount MS has paid for the content.

Since you don't care about achievements (probably you don't have friends on Xbox live, if you have a 360) and have a big "?" with DLC, you're obviously part of the playstation loyalist, which I explained clearly the reason to pick the PS3 GTA if you do own the console. gotta hand it to ya Crecente, love the hair (like you haven't had enough comments about your hair).But yeah i think that the 360 might sell more copies because 1)it came out sooner (the 260 that is) 2)it's been cheaper longer (also referring to the 360) and 3)believe it or not i think DLC is going to play a huge part in how many sell for the 360.But then again it's hard to say that the 360 will be getting DLC and PS3 wont.

It's gonna be a PS3 purchase for me, that's a given as I have a PS3.

But honestly, the Sony hating-on is really reaching a critical mass of new and unexplored levels of retarded in these forum posts. I guess that's fine. I still remember the mouth-breathers who slagged on the PS2 years after the Dreamcast died, having convinced themselves that Howard Stringer was the devil himself. Funny stuff, that.

@mcool93: Well, my PS3 has rumble, as I have the Dualshock 3. And the DLC won't be coming out till august or something like that, so many people will already be done with the game by then (die-hard fans and those who are waiting excepted, of course). Achievements have never really meant much to me, so, taking all of those things into account, I'm getting it on my PS3 instead of my 360. (I may rent it on 360 when the DLC comes out, depending on how spectacular it is (I'm sure it'll be great) and depending on if I'm tired of GTA. I love the games, but I don't know how long I'm going to love this one.) Getting the PS3 special edition tonight at midnight! Hell yes!

Brian was right on spot about the question. Just like Sony said before the launch of PS3, they didn't need GTA exclusively and they didn't even return calls from Rockstar for negotiating GTA exclusivity. It's more and more apparent that they were right since people who pick the PS3 versions are loyal playstation fans that will never buy the Xbox 360, unless they think that slightly more stable framerate and less pop-in (in exchange of HDD space), and some motion control vehicles is more important than right out of the box rumble, download content, and achievements.

One thing I noticed was that there was ALOT of pop-ins in the gameplay videos they showed. Do you know which version of the game it was? It's especially noticeable at :50-1:10.

I think valid points were made by all. This release represents more then a hallmark for Rockstar and the GTA series. It also represents (a) the not only a true test of the dominance of the "Playstation Brand" but also a watermark of the true market share that Microsoft has managed to snatch away from Sony. After this, you have FFXIII and MGS4. If this tug a war proves to slide towards Microsoft favor, can the to aforementioned exclusives do much in the way of rectifying Playstation to publishers as the choice platform for software? I don't think so.

I really have no idea why MS hasn't given any information on the DLC. The only reasons that I can come up with is the hopes of post-lauch hype machine after sales have slowed, and closer to the release of the DLC, to help get copies moving again. Either that or MS is ashamed of it, wether it be because of quality or quantity. But one would think that they would have some amount of confidence if they felt $50 million was a fair deal. And I assume that the love and care RockStar has put into GTA would carry over to its DLC...

The 50 million was an up front purchase of the content but in the end MS only needs to sell 3.3 million at approx 15$ a pop to start breaking even.

I agree with Crecente's comments about Microsoft's reluctance to release any information about the downloadable content. Companies will invest alot of capital into promotions that make a product seem more appealing. If you think of the 100's of millions that go into advertising mass commercial products, you could deduce that the "exclusivity" especially since the content is veiled, and may be part of the Microsoft hype machine, a deal that publically makes the 360 version seem like it "could" have an edge. The "exclusive" deal for the 360 may be very well just that, a marketing deal that temporarily or permanently scores several story episodes. Does this make the 360 version the pre-eminent version to own? Probably not for most players.

MS has to market GTA hard. For all accounts and purposes GTA is basically a Sony game and thats how a lot of people see it. But not only that, MS is practically dead in the water until November in terms of mega releases. They're trying to hype this game as much as they can to fill in and tide them over until the GoW2 release.

0:15-0:18 is a goldmine.

It wasn't too "fascinating", I don't really believe DLC will be a tipping scale unless major multiplayer components are added; then the 8-12 month exclusivity is quite a long time.

Rockstar will not shoot itself in the foot by abandoning ps3 owners with a new exclusive multiplayer mode for only MSFT.

MSFT already knew the 50 mil paid off when come april 29th, many customers will spend 200 mini stickers for a gamerpicture, themes, yada yada. Million^fanbase+1/100 Live-rs spending minimum of 200 mini sticker+ However, most people buying at least 800 mini stickers in one transaction= Minimal loss if not even out

The episodic content is just a one big whammy.

Is it just me, or does Sessler always seem so nerdy that he almost comes off like he's piss ass drunk and trying really hard to be intelligent? I mean, the guy's pretty cool, (I actually think he's the only thing G4 has going for it) but for some reason I see him mumbling to himself with a bottle of scotch in between tapings.

Great points about PS2 owners waiting for this on PS3 to push them to buy the PS3 and the DLC. I hope both consoles see a bump in hardware sales. It's nice to hear a pleasant PS3/360 discussion instead of the usual fanboyism.

@sascha23: Hilarious! I fumble those two up as well. In fact just a couple days ago my friend was telling me about how much he wanted to get the game using the acronym GTA and for some reason I totally thought GT5. I didn't even realize it until about 10 minutes later...

I was watching that clip in anticipation of the Gran Turismo blurb. Guess I'll actually have to set my DVR to record that show... that way I can fast forward through any part not directly involving this topic.

Crecente make valid point on which version was the best. Like if you are a hardcore PS3 supporter then nothing is gonna sway your purchase and that some kind of information should of been offered into the eclusive content that 360 owners will be getting. I also agree that MS is really marketing this this hard and you know what that means....it will sell millions on the 360 alone. Quick note: My lil bro is a Sony fanboy to the core and yet he is getting a 360 for his birthday in two days and is getting the 360 version if not just to get the DLC. I almost didn't believe him when he told me this yesterday. I guess the SONY fans just lost anothone to MS.

Sure it will boost some sales for them, but they are counting on the sales down the road when the DLC hits more.

You do bring up a good point regarding the DLC. How is that going to sway anyone to a particular system if they don't even know what they're getting? It's like an infomercial with an "order now and get a free mystery gift!"

If I could hope for certain DLC, I think it would be the ability to stream your own music in place of the game's; the GTA radio is interesting...for about ten minutes.
