No it doesn't for the NES. That really sux b'cuz it did on the original arcade and PC versions.

The NES version was the worst of all because it lacked of co-op, while the Sega Master System version included it! Fuck! They should have released that version instead of the NES one!

Axel

Being a hardcore fanatic of the arcade version of Double Dragon (I could usually finish on one quarter), I was upset by the NES port.

Crappy graphics, nerfed weapons, bizarre xp/leveling system, and the best attack in the arcade game, elbow, was next to useless!

Ok, it was still fun, but it was no River City Ransom, which was (to me) superior in pretty much every way. Heck, I had more fun with Renegade than Double Dragon. You can knee people in the balls until they die! Now why don't we see that mechanic in more games!?

@Parapraxis: You are thinking of a later Double Dragon, most likely Double Dragon 2, which had the 2 coop modes you described. The original NES title had NO coop mode.

ludwigk

@Jacktherip: Well, two good levels out of a game with like 10 or more levels does not make a great game. Some people learn to beat that horrendous level, but I call them either cheaters (save states) or masochists. It was pretty clever of Rare to throw something in like that to make sure that nobody could enjoy the whole game, though. Why the heck would you want anybody to see the latter 3/4 of the game? As a developer, I sure wouldn't! hee hee.

eastx
