I... I see it now! The symbolism behind the cake! IT IS GENIUS.

Can you not see it? The parallelism between the two initially incongruent aspects of this cake?

Allow me to clarify:
What did the main plot of Portal revolve around? Answer: The sentient mainframe GLaDOS ordering Chell around to accomplish whatever task she wanted done.

What did the main plot of Pikmin revolve around? Answer: The stranded Captain Olimar ordering pikmin around to accomplish whatever task he wanted done!

In Portal, GLaDOS enticed Chell with the promise of delicious and moist cake, because, seriously, what sentient being would launch itself through experimental, physics-defying rifts in spacetime for FUN?

In Pikmin, we're not specifically told what Olimar uses to woo the brightly colored, motile plants to do his bidding, but it must be something worth seeking, a pikmin universe analogy to cake, because, seriously, what sentient plant would devote its entire, short life to the service of some alien overlord who sacrifices his underlings on a regular basis?

You see, my simple minded friends, eager to dismiss this beautiful, delectable magnum opus as a simple, if not poorly executed, icing job, the works and the picture are not randomly mixed, but placed together to send a message.

I have decoded that message.

While, at the end of Portal (Skip this if you're spoiler paranoid and, well, haven't played this game yet (HAHA)), Chell eventually sees through GLaDOS' chicanery and realizes that, yes, the cake is indeed a lie.

However, the pikmin have yet to come to that conclusion, even becoming subeservient to a SECOND derelict interloper.

Clearly, the creators (or should I say authors?) of this cake have noticed the incongruity, and are using this cake to send a message to the pikmin.

The message is thus:
THE CAKE (or whatever those damn spaceship pilots are using as incentive) IS A LIE! Don't you know that, when all is well and done, they'll simply fix their ship and fly off again, leaving you to your inevitable doom at the hands of the larger, stronger, and evolutionarily superior creatures that roam your home planet?

It says:
Throw off the shackles of oppression! Liberate yourself from mindless servitude and free yourself, as Chell did, from your oppressive master!

It says:
THE CAKE IS A LIE

Do you not see this, friends?

Do you not... see?

...

Dear God what did I just write. This is what happens when I read HP Lovecraft for 5 hours straight, I guess.
