So, my friend keeps telling me that Microsoft paid monies to have this DLC. Well, I bet, but you think Sony wants to let MS have exclusive content? Maybe Sony will buy the DLC from them too? It's probably timed exclusive. And look, this PS3 version came to fruition with a release same day as 360 version.

Anyhow having both systems, and my 360 dying and being on #4, I'm going with PS3. Just seems smoother and more stable.

I own all 3 new systems, but I've already had my 360 break on me (RROD) once, and I hear of it happening to some people 3 times even in this thread. Achievements are cool, but not cooler than a console that WORKS.

My 360 struggled threw Crackdown, its gonna struggle threw GTA IV (funny story, I bought the system straight threw Microsoft threw a retailer rewards program, and it had a red quadrant right out of the box).

However, if the DLC is off the hook awesome (and isn't endgame content but something new players can play too) and it isn't actually a timed exclusive that I'm hoping it is, I'll buy the 360 version later this year as well.

But for now, Special Edition on PS3 all the way.

Well, as i said before the grand theft auto franchise was born on the playstation brand SONY console, the game is said by major gaming website and rockstar themselves to be smoother, better looking and running smoother with less issues on the PS3 build of the game, also PSW magazine confirmed ps3 exclusive DLC, home inclusion and trophies.

So it's a definitely, no doubt the ps3 version for me!

Well I disagree. Quite a few dual platform owners are picking up the PS3 version. It isn't just about having the better version either. When you own dual platforms, or like some of us all three or more if you include handhelds, then that only adds to the number of available titles occupying your time and interest. DLC isn't quite as important when you have a broader choice.

Also bear in mind that despite the write ups, 99% of the people posting here have yet to play the game. Their touting it as proverbial pot of gold at the end of the rainbow may change once the game is in hand. How important is DLC then? You see for those jumping up and down about how grand DLC will be can only have an opinion of the game that can go down after playing. Considering that Microsoft has yet to state the DLC will be 100% bonafide free, this only clouds matters further.

I like HALO a great deal. But it took quite a few punches to the head once gamers were able to put their dirty paws on the game. It's reputation was sullied and reduced after release, not glorified. Intentions to release DLC were met with glee prior to release. After release it was 'Meh'.

Is there anything in the reviews about which the writers have lied so far? Absolutely. IGN stated they give a 10 not because a game is perfect but because it pushes new bounderies. Can any experienced gamer sit here and honestly say the graphics in GTA4 are pushing new bounderies? They look good mind you but groundbreaking? In fact some of the models look downright fugly. If they lied about one thing they lied about two. And how honest can an exclusive review of the game be?

So before anyone starts ranting about DLC being an advantage or the second coming of Nikko, just consider every game ever that had talk of DLC before the title hit the streets and then look to see how important the DLC was AFTER the game came out.

That said, PS3. I just don't see MS as having innovated in any way with the 360. It's just an Xbox, with upgraded everything. Nothing actually different. I'm not a fanboy; I've never owned a PS2, though I love my Xbox dearly. But this gen, I've just never been excited by the 360.

If I do get a PS3 - I'm still intending to hold out until the 'slim' version, at present, unless an awful lot of films I want comes out on Blu-ray before that - then this will definitely be one of the first games on my list for it (probably after RE5 but that's it).

I'm actually getting the PS3 version myself. Plus, I just swayed my brother into getting it on PS3 instead of the 360. I used the "graphics will be better, I'm using PS3 argument." Besides, he has a modded xbox and I wanted the developers to get paid for their work.

Now, I actually hate him, because he waved the game (both the normal version and the LE) in front of my sorry nose, and refused to sell me a copy, making me very very sad.
To earn my forgiveness for that unforgivable sin, he gave me quite an extensive report on the comparison between the two versions (both tested with HDMI cable connection):
We already know about the shorter loading time in the PS3 version, but that was a given, since the PS3 can use it's hard disk (and the guys at Rockstar recently complained about the lack of such possibility on the 360). In addition to that, while the PS3 version has a smooth framerate in every situation, the 360 version staggers quite visibly in some crowded situations, expecially when you turn your character around.
Finally, the lighting of the PS3 version is quite better than the 360 one, whose palette looks dull and colder in comparison.

Since I've got an Xbox Live account and I haven't used my 360 or my Live Account for more than, oh, about 2 hours total this whole year so far, I'm going to go with the 360 version. I'll play it with my 360 friends (instead of my PS3 friends, oh well) and actually get some use out of this machine and the account I paid 50 bucks to renew back in September. Don't really have much interested in any other 360 games until the fall.

Owning both consoles the decision has been really tough, but ultimately more of my real life friends own 360's and I'd kick myself if the DLC actually ends up being good. I will gladly sacrifice technical advantages I'd never actually spot unless the two versions were played side by side. Ignorance is bliss as they say.

I personally have been changing my mind several times and have even changed my pre-order to the PS3 version a few days ago. The nostalgic part of me wants to play this on a Sony console with my new DS3. Also, I'd rather being playing on a console with HDMI output (because I'm not ready to waste money on an elite, yet).

That side, however, is at odds with the one-two punch of Xbox Live and DLC. I have to admit though, I don't really care for too many people on my XBL friends list. Most are random folk I somehow impressed once (don't ask why, not sure myself) with only a few good friends that want to play on a semi-regular basis.

Maybe I should let Kotaku make this decision for me? Say, the first version to receive fifteen votes on my profile messages will decide my purchase?

XBox Live. Being able to tell which of my friends is also playing GTA and are joinable. Being able to invite my friends to join me without having to exit back to the xmb.

Multiplayer on the PS3 is just intolerable when you become accustomed to 360 features.

For those wanting to know which version looks better, the edge goes to the PS3. The textures and framerate are comparable, but the PS3 has far less pop-in.

While GTA IV is pushing the PS3 and 360 to the limit, it also runs amazingly well. Sure, there are framerate hitches here and there and (particularly on 360) there is some texture pop-in, but it actually runs better than I expected.

The 360 has richer colors, but the PS3 has better anti-aliasing making it look a little cleaner. Because GTA IV can preload onto the PS3 hard drive, the in-game loads are faster. Don't worry Xbox owners, the load times are rarely more than 30 seconds and don't occur very often. The slight visual edge goes to PS3, but the 360 is no slouch. Either version will do you proud.

I've always played GTA on a PlayStation, and I'd like to keep it that way.

But the DLC makes it a tough decision. Especially since we don't know what it is yet. But for the kind of dough Microsoft put out for it, it should be significant.

I don't really want to support Microsoft's evil practices though. They've really screwed over PS3 owners in an effort to move more of their consoles. Some people will say it's 'just business', but couldn't that money have been better invested in making a different exclusive game for 360? I'd rather see them bring new experiences to gamers than cut off an experience that could easily be delivered to gamers, just because they're on the wrong console.

That said, I love playing GTA and the thought of missing out on something makes it tough.

At this point, I'm waiting to see what McWhertor and Crecente have to say about PS3 vs Xbox versions on Sunday. If there's any benefit to running it on the PS3, I'll feel better about buying it on PS3 and go with that.

If the DLC is just amazing, maybe I'll pick up a used version on the 360 and check it out.
