I played the demo (didn't finish second mission though) and i have to say that this is a game i'm really looking forward to.
The atmosphere of the game looks to be true to the original thanks mostly to an excellent work in the sound department.The yells and laughs of the shibito in particular were very terrifying especially if you play the game with headphones or with a very good surround system.The gameplay was very appropriate for a survival horror game although many people will be eager to categorize it as "tank controls".If you are one of those i'm sorry to say but "you just don't get it."
Graphics are a bit of a let down though and it reminds me more of PS2 games than current gen.Also the character acting is really bad,i felt the original was much better in that department (although it's been years since last i played it).

dude...the graphics do look amazing, but some of the expressions and positions of the characters just look awkward. alot of the screens it just looks like they pasted the zombies on it.

It does look like it could be a good game. And I DO hope we aren't seeing final screens of Silent Hill V, I will be so depressed...

And no, I'm not juse being difficult here, because those voices are ridiculous beyond belief. I wasn't a big fan of Beowulf, but what I REALLY liked about that movie was the fact that Grendel's scream wasn't exaggerated in any way. It really sounded as if something - something human - was in great pain, and it got straight to my heart. This on the other hand is just dumb.
And the protagonist sounds like a girl when he screams/moans.

There's some videos up on youtube. Some commenters said you can kill the Shibito?! Judging by the video, it looks like you can -- they don't seem to curl up like they did in Siren 1. Say it ain't so! Half of the fun is taken out if it's just a run and gun. Plus there's some waggle support too, which looks tacked-on. Ooh, they better not botch this up!

I'm a little surprised to see people railing on this in favor of the first Siren, considering that it was pretty barfed on in reviews at release. I haven't had the chance to play it, and it seems I might as well wait and play this.

The voice acting in the trailer didn't seem bad for a dub, considering how bad they can get, and the visuals, the art direction, the music piece shown and the atmosphere seem incredible.

Considering there isn't any survival horror really on next-gen yet, I can't imagine why anyone would not be excited about this. As long as the combat isn't too clunky, it looks like it might be amazing and a bit of a consolation prize if Silent Hill 5 turns out like crap.

@valleyshrew: Seems like they are using photographs as facial textures this time too.

@Mega-Driven: If it's anything like it's predecessors, you use the strange see-through-zombie-eyes feature to determine where your enemies are and when they are looking away, and then you run to the next safe spot.

I played this today, its awesome, and scary as hell (the zombies laugh at you and they have a fucking personality!) finished it to. I just hate whoever decided to include the camera controls in the right analog. BTW, why isnt this game getting more coverage, its above awesome! But my taste has never been in horror, this and resident evil 5 might change my mind.

From what I've read, that was the point of the remake, to make the series more appealing to Western gamers.

It seems like it's a true remake from top to bottom though. They kept the basic concepts and you'll probably see some familiar locations/situations but all in all it looks like it'll be a brand new game.

Think of it as a franchise reboot, not a remake.

I just downloaded it and it's pretty slick. The graphics are good, but it's a very dark game. Controls kinda suck, but that usually seems to be the case with most horror games.

If one more person complains about the color scheme...

People, listen to yourselves! It's a game about zombies, demon possessions, and blood-thirsty monsters. What the hell do you want, a rainbow on the horizon? Fluffy cloud wallpaper? Multi-color blood?

It's called tone. If you want to have a fun, all-age romp, you use bright primary colors like Mario. If you want to convey a dark, foreboding, or depressing environment, you have to use dark dreary colors and lots of shadows.

Asking developers to use a bunch of colors in a game about the occult, just because you think they should, would be like telling Shakespeare that if he was REALLY good he could have kept the drama while still having Romeo smack Juliet in the face with a pie.

I mean, EVERYONE does drama the same. People talking, being depressed, dieing... Can't someone have some slapstick in there just once?

I'm sure that having said that, telling you otherwise wouldn't do any good (considering you called it lighting hardware). The 360 video out (whether it's HDMI or component) is brighter than the PS3's.

Anyway, it's 720p only for this game and it seems like a lower budget effort like the PS2 games. Odd that there isn't LPCM support.

Wow this game is very scary and if you have the dualshock3 like me then you get the feel of a heart beat everytime you start getting near an enemy and you sometimes need to look around since it's so dark sometimes you cant see anything in front of you but the controller start pulsing with the sound of a heart beat and freaks me out. All in all visually it's great sound messes with your head and the fact that you can sneak around enemies and even turn your flashlight off as to not be seen all workd really good. I hope we get this one.

Just so you know, these "zombies" are unslayable. You can put them out of comission for a few minutes (some only for a few seconds), but they get back up.

I'm gettin the demo now. I want to see if this game supports 1080p. This looks like a game that will not look greyed out like almost all PS3 games that require true HL. If you compare Condemed2 on both systems you will notice that the 360 version has real lighting and shadows since the 360 has built in hardware on chip the handle that as for the PS3 doesn't have a dedicated harware lighting chip so it is programmed to give the effect of lighting and shadow as to why PS3 games always seem a lil bit on the grey side. But the pics for this game look fab.! LoL
I'll post about it in my section after I go through once or twice.

i have a feeling this'll be better then Silent Hill V (being a HUGE SH fan, i don't have high hopes for the new one).

Having beat the demo about 6 times now, i've gotta admit i LOVE this game. From the instant kills, to the creepy shadows when running around the forest. I'm just curious why they americanized the game so much (the original was VERY japanese, now this one almost seems like a teen horror flick).

Either way, i'm pumped for a US release of this game.

I didn't like the series much, but they've done a good overhaul of the gameplay and controls with this one.

@Fyren:

The game now has a first person mode that lets you zoom in from a distance. You can also walk in first person as well, and you can even use a gun as a melee weapon if you run out of ammo.

Looks pretty much like the screens running at 720p. The sound is excellent too. As short as the demo was, it left a good impression.. much better than the first PS2 game.

I just wish these kinds of games would modify the gameplay so that we may look at these mobs a bit longer as intended by artists and renderes.

I tried it earlier today. The graphics reminded me of the Doom 3 engine a lot. To be honest, I didn't understand the controls (my Japanese isn't that great) and I haven't played it before - but I think I would like it if I knew how to beat the first opponent in the demo -_-
