Props on the Luca Blight selection though. He was the true definition of badass. And it wasn't like he was that way in the beginning. His backstory regarding his dead mother and cowardly father made him into the tragic yet demonic figure he was.

I don't know what TF2 you're playing where the Pyro is an "under ubered" class. I'm fairly certain pyros are by far and away the most ubered class on good servers.

Also, the list was obscure, but I liked it. Better than a list of the top 20 company mascots like it could have been.

See, I wouldn't put Mario up here-what does he have other than really tough shoes and freakish jumping powers? What could he give to the team? Nothing but ugly facial hair, that's what!

Link, on the other hand-now that's someone I'd want. Tough, seasoned (and yet still young, so he's got a long career ahead of him), can use a lot of different tools...he's got a hell of a future on this team! Plus, the kid's a great problem solver, and you need someone who can think on their feet on the field. You can't always call a time out to tell the dumb ones what to do.

Might be problems with teamwork, though. Kid's a loner.

@Lezard: I'd agree if the premise was "select your favorite character" or something like that. Theoretically this is a draft though...the concept of which is that a "team" would take the most desirable players/characters (Mario, Link, MC, etc.) first. Someone like Max Payne would be a 4th round pick and the Goomba would be an undrafted free agent. For example, the Ravens love Chad Henne, but there is no way in hell they would take him with the #8 pick this afternoon because his value is more in line with an early 2nd round selection.

Also @excel_excel: Um, given that I use Goombas to score 99 lives on level 1-2 of SMB3 every time I play that game, I somehow doubt goombas have an overall positive kill ration on mario..

so far i approve of half the picks. (a lot of them i havent heard of because i dont do a lot of RPG-ing). not bad.

I am one of the people who would like to see some of the 'easier' picks such as MC and Link. not because they are videogame superstars, but because they do legitimately rock. I mean, how many covenant do you think MC killed within the scope of the 3 games? not to mention Flood and Sentinels. Link is the Hero of Time, having battled and puzzled his way through countless games.

The pick i agree with the most so far is Mega-man, and the reasoning is spot on.

Hmmm, the Goomba post got me thinking about whether Mario has killed more Goombas or Goombas have more Marios in the history of the franchise. I think I agree but I would add that more Goombas have been jumped over and not bothered with; they are simply not worth Mario's time.

Anyhoo, my Runner ups were as follows: Kirby (Highly Adaptable), Zergling (Strong early and late game performance, economical), Kane (Immortal Time Traveling Cult Leading Badass), Peon (Backbone of the Horde, Plus when I was a kid thought they had nunchuks), and Space Marines (They kill Bloodthirsters with their BARE HANDS!).

@Zim: Popular doesn't always equal great, though, particularly when we're talking about personal opinion. Frankly, I think that Master Chief is a terrible character. His basic character design is that of a glorified Doom marine. I find nothing compelling about him in the least. Maybe that's in part because I'm not a fan of Halo, but at the same time, I couldn't get into the gameplay of Xenogears at all but find the story and characters in that game to be extremely compelling.

The bottom line is, this shouldn't be treated as a GameFAQs Character Battle. This isn't about which character is so fucking awesome that they could totally own everyone else. Some of these characters had a personal impact on the people that selected them, some of the selections were tongue-in-cheek, but they're all valid.

It's amazing how many people are whining about this. If you don't like it, make your own list of draft picks and fill it with all of the Halo, Final Fantasy, Mario, and GTA characters you want. I doubt that many people are going to find it a particularly compelling read, though.

Am I the only one kinda feeling at the moment that because everyone is trying to avoid selecting the popular characters we are getting a load of rubbish ones?

They are popular for a reason. Least Snake and Max payne are here so far.

I mean we currently have pyro (which really isn't a character more a class, like saying your favourite character is Medic from BF2142) yet no Cloud, CJ, Link, Manny etc

I dunno I just get the feelings these aren't peoples actual opinions but more who they thought they could choose and write a funny little piece about. I guess I just don't understand this whole Draft thing. I thought it was kinda like a character contest but I guess it's just funny pieces about characters?
