Haha... that reminds me of something surprising that happened to me as a kid. When I was around 10 I had a CB radio walkie talkie and I was chatting with a friend who was a couple blocks away.

He'd asked what the noise he heard on my end was, and it was some guys making fun of me as I walked by so without thinking I went "just a bunch of assholes." And he told me that he was next to my dad, who wanted to see me right away.

Frankly, it disgusts me that "Halo 3" and "Grand Theft Auto 4" have the same rating. I'd have no problem letting a 13 year old play Halo 3, but I think we can all agree that a 13 year old shouldn't be playing GTA4.

There is nothing wrong with portraying a negative act in the proper context, as the sick ministrations of diseased and evil people, but I'm sure this is just the BBFC overreacting, I'm inclined to believe we would have heard about this long before now if it were even strongly implied, rather than inferred, as I believe to be the case here.

The keyword is implied. Someone probably alludes to it as part of some backstory exposition.

The flat and matter of fact tone of BBFC content reports is something I like, they just say 'this is in it, so we gave it this rating'.

Now if there were any suicide in it, it'd be straight up to an 18 (the thing the BBFC come down heaviest on is a category they call 'dangerously imitable technique', so any realistic depiction of suicide gets you an automatic 18, any headbutting is an automatic 12, etc...)

Try as we might, we DONT know what war is like. We dont know the extent of atrocities that are committed, and we dont know (and hopefully never find out) how such experiences can change a person. MGS is one of the better ways to get a feel of that mindset. I also thought Taxi Driver, and to a lesser extent the first Rambo, were movies about how war changes us. Yes, they were entertainment, but they were also character studies at some level. De Niro is at his best in Taxi Driver.

@Topic: I'm honestly surprised the Metal Gear Series hasn't touched on this subject in previous entries, as unfortunately, atrocities such as the rape of children is a common occurrence in war. You can research incidents during the Bosnian War, Vietnam, the 1971 atrocities in Bangladesh, and the Nanjing Massacre in WWII to get an ideal of how brutal "soldiers" can be in times of war against both adult and young women.

Kojima has dealt with various angles involving war, and has already asserted how realistic he wants to make MGS4 be, so I'm certain that he can handle a serious scenario such as this without trivializing it by making it into something completely facetious. Lets see how far he's wiling to take us on the darker side of war outside of murder.

This isn't taken from a sensationalist article by the press; this is a BBFC report detailing the details of the game and addressing any violent/sexual content in context to justify the rating they gave it.

As you can see, it appears that nothing has been called out as being inappropriate, and there are no complaints being raised.

I'm not sure whether the ESRB releases any such information, but if it doesn't, it should. If the Australian OFLC and the BBFC are so open and release the ratings reports to the public, why not the American ratings board?
