I loved GH2, and I recently tried a few songs on Rock Band on expert - It actually reminded me how fun GH&GH2 were.

Everything you mention in your post is true. And add in the fact that, you can't use open notes or barre a fret, etc. Not to say that Dragonforce guys aren't way better than me at guitar. But I'd be able to play that song on real guitar before I'd ever 100% it on Guitar Hero.

Real quick: I've never played Guitar Hero or Rock Band. Yes yes, living in a cave, etc. etc. etc. But I understand the principle. That's the first time I've seen the pattern for what I assume is a very, very hard song. And as a guitar player, let me tell you--that shit looks hard.

I was thinking about how I'd play that song live. I don't think I could pull it off, but it seems easy enough in theory: finger-taps, hammers, pull-offs, some trills. In a lot of cases, the fret hand wouldn't move from its basic position (high up on neck, so you wouldn't need to stretch much), a few parts are just 5ths down the fretboard, and a lot of it sounds like real basic scale runs.

However, the game is adding in some input presses for notes that you wouldn't actually fret (a few harmonic overtones, a few notes you would normally get after a pull-off), turned the trills into a long series of buttons, made a bunch of parts where "finger stretch" shouldn't be a concern more difficult than they should be, and turned a few single-note runs into "chords".

Basically: my left hand cramped up and I was inflicted with a sudden case of carpal tunnel syndrome just thinking about trying to pull that shit off perfectly in-game. If there are any guitar/Guitar Hero players who could comment further on this, I'd love to hear from you.

I guess it's just a case of practicing and learning the song by heart. After all, the actual guitar part on the track was played by a real actual person, and the GH note sequence is certainly simpler than that.

The Wii version depicted above actually reads the screen (or at least the individual frames), so it's doing a lot more work.
