I am not worried. The problem is with MGO not MGS 4, so even if it does suck upon release (hopefully not) there will still be the strong anchor that is MGS4. Also this is more indicative of crappy server infrastructure and not gameplay. I think they can bring up enough servers in a month in a half to salvage release date buzz. I don't know about you but when I get MGS 4 I won't b playing online for quite some time until I go through the one player experience thoroughly. Anyway I am eagerly awaiting for friday when it will be back up.

i found out im gonna be bogged down with work all week. i was delighted to kick off mgo during the week anyways, friday midnite is prefect, i dont work weekends, so it will be pure and adulterated MGO all weekend. my son will be abusing MK Wii with me during the week, and i will keep GTA4 sealed until i get my proper fix on MGO. yes i am a MGS fiend like that.

This morning when MGO wouldnt connect, I sighed and Went to play WarhawK and it said "server error" there too!!

My first thought was "My god! MGO broke the internet!"

Thankfully, Warhawk was only down briefly and I have been getting my online shooting and killing fix there quite nicely.

I have been on the Battlefield,Halo3,Cod4, and Age of Conan betas and the one thing that seperates all of them to this one is that I was always able to log in and produce feed back to the respective companies. This BETA has not even launched yet even though it lauched already. lol

difference between this and the Crackdown / Halo 3 beta problem is that the download was delayed due to an issue between connection between the disk and the marketplace. it was ready but the system wasn't recognizing it through the disk. but when it was downloaded everyone cud play without issues. here, ppl can download it and then just get stuck not being able to play it.

somehow now im not minding so much the fact that Microsoft runs the servers cuz they know how to do it. obviously some people at Konami cant.

I'm not worried about the servers crashing AGAIN when the real game comes out in June. Majority of people will be playing the campaign, not the multiplayer when it's first out. People will finish the campaign at varying intervals and so people will slowly trickle into the online game as they beat the main game. I think the servers will see a gradual increase in traffic from launch day as opposed to just "BOOM! Everybody all at once!" Like what happened last night.

A week or 2 will be no problem. They didn't have to offer the Beta at all if they just wanted to do regular testing sessions, they didn't have to put it in with MGS4 either so at least we don't have to buy a standalone product. I don't play a lot online so this is a perfect setup for me, if I enjoy my free "demo" of MGO, I will buy the expanded edition. If I don't have fun, I don't lose any money and still have MGS4 to play round with.

I'm actually glad it was delayed.

This means that when I experience it and if I love it as much as I think I will, I'll be able to play it until a closer date to the actual launch of the game.

See, if it went up now, it'd end over a month before the game comes out. Once you've experienced something glorious, and then you have to go cold turkey for a month, that can suck. Now that they'll be extending the end date of the beta, we'll have a shorter purgatory period between the beta and the real deal. That's cool with me. I don't expect that they'll be learning much from us with this thing, anyway... not much they'll do to fix anything except learn how to prepare the servers for launch day, and they've ALREADY learned a good deal about that situation from this whole debacle. It's all good.

Honestly.... i don't think this would of been a big deal to people if we didn't have to go thru that long drawn out and fustrating process of dling the update and trying to get the konami id. It took me 4 days to be able to get the id. If the process would of been a bit smoother i don't think people would be as fustrated and mad as they are. Its a beta, as long as they get things fixed before the game officially comes out i'm happy.

People shouldn't pin much hopes on MGS online as Konami's track record isn't that good with online games, just look at all the lag you experience when you play Pro Evo Soccer, and that's just two people that are connected to one another.

sadly i'm not too surprise. I'm curious to how many people registered. if you look at the past games, you can see that few people actually pre ordered.

but with the return of metal gear online.. people are going nuts *and i won't be surprise if people found loopholes around the region block.. say, if someone from that country registered you in).

But i consider it good ... at least they didn't do what happened in japan, where only a 'few' people were able to play the beta, after a little race.

They could have been even more nice.. and gave us the training part without being connected.. that would have been cool.

yea, i don't see what all the whining is about.

they are letting people get a chance at playing the game early to help fix problems so they won't happen at retail (when you have paid for the product and if something like this happens they don't get in to too much trouble.)

We just have to chill and wait an extra few days. This is the worst part of the beta test, the opening. its all announced and given this and that for the most important part, which is the stress test.

We should now have a much easier and more enjoyable experience with the beta when its out for finding out the more minor issues.

Thats why we *need* betas. To test systems.

The tecnicians need to make design decisions, and these decisions could be wrong. Or maybe theres somewhere a service provider that *lie* about capacity.

The theory is different than the praxys.

As a example, there are hosting services that provide "infinite bandwith" for your website. But once you make a popular website, you see a new definition of "infinite".

We sould respect Konami. Shit happends, and seems Konami will work to fix that problems, so the customers, the release day (or maybe the next day) will be happy gamming :DD

The exact reason why the servers are down is because all of europe logging on at 11 blew up the server.

I was logging in for 5 minutes before it started so i got in exactly at the beginning and the servers were up properly. I got past the start game button and to the character creation screen.

Although it disconnected at the registering character part, i think my character was made because the community page had my characters name on it in the profile.

So it was up at 11, it crashed at 11.01 when all of europe logged on at the same time.

Well played europe, we blew up konami's server. I feel so dirty like i was part of a DDOS attack :(

Well in all fairness to konami, they don't have that many online games running on their servers, in case of metal gear, the psp and ps2 (metal gear 3 subsistence) were only playable if you bought the game. Since in europe and Japan you're free the join the beta, people with mild interest would like to give it a go, therefore increasing the traffic to unforeseen amount, instead of just MGS fans who are planning to buy the game, this might be a more select group and within that range are those who also or just want to play MGS online. So they can't build their expectations on sales numbers of other MGS titles or who played previous online games of MGS.

Message should read: We didn't put any thought into server capacity and crossed our fingers the current server would work when it was a passing thought. Besides, red is a positive colour in Japanese culture, so the Red Flags were seen as good.

They better be joking... They fully expected to run a MGO Beta on a SINGLE machine connected to what, dial up?

I get the distinct impression Konami loaded the server-side software up on to some old NEC they had kicking around the back of the office and then just kinda abandoned it.

Perhaps they DID get authorisation from the money man to buy a new machine, but it was 'redirected' to a staffers desk upon arrival as it was faster at rendering than his/her current workstation.

I can't say this surprises me at all, after spending 2 days trying to finally get registered for an ID and most of today getting things downloaded and patched and ready to go. It was so painfully slow I figured today would be a disaster on the servers. I think in the long run it's a good thing at Konami agrees and they're going to order an extra server or two (... hundred) to be sure the REAL game launch goes much smoother than this mess of a beta.

Oh come on, relax. First of all the release IS still about seven weeks away, so I think it's better they are dealing with this massive online issues and server capacities now than when the actual game comes out.
Plus participants of the open beta won't have to get a Konami ID once the full game is on store shelves, one can get one now (registration process now works, had to try a few times over the weekend but it finally worked - sure it was annoying, but if finally worked).
But overall, to be fair: It is free, it's an OPEN PUBLIC BETA, so please give it a break with all the complaints and crap. Dear Luke, I would also suggest you calm down and stop bitching. An open public beta is no kind of free-for-anyone game with all the benefits of a fully tested release. It is and never will be anything else than a BETA TEST.

Oh, and just a quick update from the ID front: People from Germany are not allowed to get a Konami ID during the period of the MGO Beta due to ingame-violence restrictions.

I guess this beta was actually a beta then, and not just a promo. Oh well it's not really that important, at least they're being proactive about it.

its pretty much the same thing that happened with the halo 3 beta. If those of you don't remember, it wasn't showing up in the Crackdown Version of the beta, so Bungie extended it by a little bit as most crackdown users (myself included) were not able to hop on.

Seriously though, holy jesus. How could they not expect this level of users? They know tons of people love Metal Gear Online. Were they just...underestimating? What happened?
