The 0 deaths on the leaderboards are hackers. Not that I could be bothered to go through the whole thing again trying not to die.

Level 23 took me a while to figure out: what you have to do is wait for the switch and then head for the center of the windmill. Once you manage to get close, you'll be able to keep up with its turning rate and collect the dots at your leisure. The switch occurs once every full rotation, or basically once the arms become 90 degrees to the walls 4 times.

26 was quite difficult as well. The horizontal dots on the sides simply require really sharp reflexes, but the diagonals are the hard part. What you do is basically use the same strategy, except push in diagonal directions. If you're heading up along the left diagonal, for example, put the square as far up as possible beside the first circle, then wait for it to pass you on its way downwards. As soon as you won't hit the circle from pushing left, hit the left and up keys. Make sure you don't pass the first circle into the second one's path, though, until you're ready. Simply wait for the second block to also start heading downwards, and push left + up again. Rinse, repeat. To get a sense of the timing you need for those sections, I recommend doing the horizontal dots on the side a couple times first.

The hardest one for me was definately 28. There's a checkpoint, and the main thing you have to be able to do is basically climb from one end of a grid to the other within the limited space of about two lines. It's definately doable with diagonals and a little bit of backtracking, but I think I still ended up racking over 100 deaths on there.

Seriously. Watching on Youtube what you need to do, I think this game is simply the most aggravating and boring, but not anywhere close to the most difficult.

The game is (uduh) one part puzzle solving and one part skill. You sit, watch, figure out the path to victory, and then implement.

Maybe it gets ridiculously difficult later on, but it seriously didn't strike me as "teh hardestest evar".

In my opinion? That horrible Mario Hack (wish I could find it the article...) looks like the hardest game ever. You know, the one where the clouds are lethal, and a laser shoots you as soon as you reach the finishing line? *That* is a hard game.

(Although I will give this game props for being difficult without being soulcrushing or completely devoid of mirth.)

Since it's a Flash game based on extremely simple gameplay and a very simple concept, some might call it a "casual" game. But is it casual if you have to study patterns and use deductive logic to determine how to beat it? And I personally don't think the "challenge" lies in the patterns, but in the controls; I could blaze through this with a joystick, but I only have 4 arrow keys on my keyboard, and not a very big monitor where I am right now, so it's hard to determine exactly where your hit-box is.

More than anything else, I call it a commentary on "hard" games. I agree with some people who say it's "hard... to have fun playing it," but I think it's hard to be patient more than anything else. After all, the high score comes from the number of deaths; I blazed through the first handful of levels (I'm on level 15 with around 100 deaths right now), taking some time to not die, but also getting frustrated at a few levels and trying to rush things when I shouldn't have. Isn't it "hard" to be patient with it?

I'm talking out of my ass. But I dunno, I guess when I started reading the comments here I thought I'd see more than "this game sux," "it's boring," "it's dumb," etc.

Some people complain about the music, but personally I think it sounds rather nice.

If there were tiers of levels where you could start comparing it might drive me forward (i.e. 300 people made it here with fewer deaths, want to start over?) or maybe just made it twice as hard with a third as many levels...

Also: have any of you played Contra recently? I mean, I think it's pretty simple to get through the game with only the standard three lives alloted, in under 20 minutes. Mind you, I'm not claiming to be some uber-reflex champ; I can't get past the 3rd level of Ikaruga, Shattered Soldier whups my ass on every level except for "easy", etc. etc. etc. I just think that a bunch of us think Contra is a lot harder than it is, if only because it seemed impossible when we were five or six.

However, I did try playing Ghosts and Goblins again recently. That SHIT IS HARD. Also: still can't get past Frankenstein in Castlevania. Also: still can't beat Bloody Malth in NG 1. I am full of fail.

The only thing that made it difficult was when the pattern would increase in speed. The thing I liked about this game over, say, IWBTG is that it's all pattern and you can feasibly pass any level on the first time through. With IWBTG, there's no way to know ahead of time that apples are going to fall on you and kill you, or that spikes will fly out of the wall. A lot of that game is straight memorization.

TIP: When you're up against grids of enemies, the safest place to be is away from the center. This way you have more time to move between the enemies. Even when the grid formations are less evident, if many of the enemies are moving up and down or left and right, the best place to be would be away from the center. Some levels are actually impossible without using this strategy, so make sure you've mastered it!
