I do remember the story being a little "edgy" even when I was 10 playing this. Maybe this means they did a full screen polygon pushing "Scanners" version of the head explosion with the little blood and brain bits floating out like the redone deathstar explosion. I'm all over this either way.

@DaiMacculate: Apparently it was given this rating for blood and gore. When it was first released it didn't have a rating at all - due to the lack of the ESRB at the time - but since it's sequels are M rated, so is this game. http://www.xbox.com/en-US/games/m/marathondurandalxboxlivearcade/default.htm I've never played Marathon, but like Zone of the Enders 2, it was probably given an M for the sake of consistency.

@KeroseneClimax: Wow they gave Marathon on XBLA an M rating? I own the game and never noticed this somehow. On what criteria I wonder? I mean even with the HD "upgrade" (I always play with the original GFX), the worst thing is probably the b.o.b.s exploding/dying, and I've seen things on that level in T rated games before, IMO.

I've been keeping up with the bionic commando podcast and they mentioned rearmed getting rated M in episode 12 I believe. Anyway, the game's producer comments that the reason why Rearmed is getting rated M is because the head explosion is supposed to last for 30 long, juicy, slow motion seconds. It's supposed to be quite gory.

This is an unfortunate by-product of the world of gaming today.

Back in the day, when games were still considered to be "for kids", even really violent and adult-oriented games were A-OK as far as anyone cared.

Today, with a rating system in place (which is a good thing, as it allows games like GTA to be released without reasonable people thinking they shouldn't be released, alot of the games we enjoyed as kids are now thought of as not-suitable.

If I was a parent, I'd let my kids play most of the M-Rated games I play. But it's up to the parent. And alot of kids will miss out on an awesome game because of this rating.

But as I said, it's just an unfortunate by-product of an otherwise good system we have in place today.

(My main beef with the ESRB is that Zelda games get T ratings nowadays. You can't sit here and tell me that Twilight Princess is anything but kid friendly.)

@Chippy180: I think Fahey forgot to use the context checker, since 'of' is spelled correctly but used incorrectly. You, on the other hand, forgot to use your homonym checker. It would've told you that 'there' and 'their' sound the same, but have different meanings...

As for Bionic Commando: Rearmed, I'm hoping that the new, M-rated build includes more of the blood and guts and nudities that we the gamers crave to the very depths of our black and twisted souls. I also hope that they include some sweet, sweet Mike Patton voice-work to get us all stoked for the new Bionic Commando game!

@Rodent: I have heard the developers speak on that. They said if it did it would have to cost the price of a regular PSP game(29.99 USD to 39.99 USD). They did not say anything about doing it, maybe if it is sucessful sales wise online they would consider it. The head explode is why it is M for Mature. Just that one part of the game.
