Boring white box art isn't your thing? You gotta give it to Apple and later Nintendo for this packaging craze. Who was the first person to say, "The more plain the box art, the more people will want the product inside in their hands?" It's green because that color is associated with with regeneration, fertility and rebirth for its connections to nature.

On topic though, while I doubt anyone is going to get fit and/or lose weight alone, I could see it providing much needed motivation and structure to people who'd like to live a little healthier lifestyle and just need a kickstart.

Its not Wii Skinny. Or Wii Weight Loss. It is Wii Fit. The definition for that is so broad that there is nothing wrong with its usage here. Regardless, we already know that games like DDR can help you lose weight. Wii Sports and its clones are already shown to aid in health and rehabilitation in various applications. Why shouldnt Wii Fit be the same?

Anything that promotes physical activity and exercise is going to help your health unless there is an injury you are aggravating. I shouldnt expect this much of Kotaku readers to understand this. Or really gamers in general. The only thing fit about most of you is probably your thumbs... I kid, I kid.

As an exercise device this has potential to achieve great results. If the games it uses are fun and addictive then people will indeed become fitter. Get ready for round two of the the mainstream media's love affair with all things Wii.

(Green is the colour scheme in the game, right? So it makes sense to have it on the box, and the clothes with green bits are pretty nice. Overall, not exactly surprising but another decent design job, as you'd expect.)

@LittleBigPlaneteer: Yeah, exactly - it's about encouraging you to do some exercise regularly (not about turning muscle-bound gym-haunting imbeciles into even more muscle-bound stay-at-home imbeciles). Make you fit as in 'to join the Marines', no, make you fit as in 'regular exercise is better for you than no exercise whatsoever', sure.

Basically I think with Animal Crossing Nintendo realised they had 'game that nags you to play it regularly' down pat, so if they can apply that to exercise, it's a good thing.

My point was that anything that can actually induce some sort of physical activity on a daily basis will likely increase the chances of you losing weight.

I just feel like many people may be buying into this thing as if it's a groundbreaking exercise equipment (the name Wii Fit does not help at all), when really it's more or less another mini-game accessory/scale.

I have serious doubts that this thing costs anything near 89.99 to make and I feel like Nintendo can and will easily get away with charging whatever they want because of the hype surrounding this accessory. I'd be more supportive of the thing if it was like 30-40 less
