@boilermaker11: You have no idea if those are in game shots. They don't indicate that they're in-game and the video doesn't even slightly imply that they are. They are likely from cutscenes, but what is really in question is whether or not they are touched up.

As far as Killzone 2, well they already showed that video was different from the actual graphics that were shown later.

And we have never seen in game graphics for Final Fantasy 13 because they have never been shown. The only videos so far were cut scenes that showed what the concept of the games battle system was hoping to achieve. A fact which Square Enix made very clear.

You know even though this game looks great it is still a sequel to the PS2 fighting games.

The thought that they would do something that would change the games dramatically this late in to the series seems a bit far fetched.

I guess all we can do is hope for the impossible, if not, I guess this is how liberty dies.

Looks like they took shots directly from the anime! However, I've never been a real fan of fighting games, and the previous games have always been based off the story in the anime.

Maybe having the games cover some of the material that was in the manga but not the anime (ala Enter the Matrix) would make for a much more enticing purchase. Here's hoping!

Those look amazing but I think they're pre-rendered. The 360 Naruto game still looked really good though. Problem is I think this'll basically be the same as the Ultimate Ninja games just with incredibly awesome graphics. Also Fahey, I don't think this means that there won't be a Rise of the Ninja 2 from Ubisoft at all. The game was actually not licensed out by Bandai but the team ASKED to make a Naruto game (which is why it turned out so great and original). So I think as long as Ubisoft is willing to fund them and Namco lets them use the license, the Rise of a Ninja game will have a sequel (not to mention that teaser after the credits couldn't've been any more obvious as to Ubisoft's intentions).

@ara: Neither you nor I know for a fact whether or not they are actualy in-game shots or not.

To be honest, the Sasuake pic doesn't look pre-rendered to me at all. I've been staring at it for the past hour and I can see the jaggies and the same color palettes used as in the other obvious in-game shots.

The first two shots are the two that look they they have been mucked with a little. There seems to be a slight dodge effect on both shots (though this can be done in realtime with today's technology). The first one just looks a little too "glowy" for me to 100% believe though.

The only way any of us will know what is real and what is not is for us to wait and see it in action. Until then, why pass judgment on it now?

Also, Rather than just thinking about Bullshots released now and then, we should also remember that there are also many screen shots developers and publishers have released that were "rumored bullshots" that turned out to be real.

Only two of those 5 screens are realtime rendered, pretty easy to spot the drawn/pre-rendered ones. The realtime ones are amazing, but the difference is evident, and the difference won't disappear with increased processing power. When you have actual professional tweaking the shot forehand it will always shine above on the spot rendering.

This is pretty insane. Hopefully this technology gets used in future anime cel-shaded games.

Makes you wonder though, with cel-shading that looks that good, they could start animating the show with it, and it'd look the same, only way more smooth. There could also be a lot of big movie productions that look a lot nicer using this technology, like that recent Appleseed movie.

This is gorgeous. For those who are worried about lacking Japanese voiceovers in the US version, keep in mind that a) a Blu-ray disc has a shitload of space, and b) if you really want them that badly and they're not coming here, you can import it worry-free.

I like the series, don't get me wrong, but I find the characters equally irritating in either language. Not too much of a concern for me.

the game was quite ... decent for 360 and every PS2 and GC beat 'em up X adventure was/is/will be better than this...
To short, to much replay, just 3 kinds of enemies and you have to collect things like in JUST EVERY UBISOFT game... man they should change just one thing from one game to another, other than chaging the model of the collective item.

As for these shots being touched up, I can't rule out that it's a possibility, but if you hit the 1280 resolution shot, you can see the some slight jagginess (really slight) along the edges of the characters. I've been lied to before though, so I'll just remain patiently optimistic, while still insisting that I see more before being fully sold on this one.

Sadly it takes more then gorgeous visuals to make a good game. the last dozen or so naruto games, sans the Ubisoft 360 title, were pretty damn awful in my mind. Lets hope they can pull it off.

Also, what I don't get is that this is pre-shippuden era. If this is on PS3 it should technically be a japanese targeted release, so shouldn't it be a shippudden adventure? I think every naruto fan on the planet has played the same story about 20 times over already. Time to move on.

I'm seriously looking forward to this game. I've been following it's development since I first heard rumors about it months ago. Bot Cyber Connect and Sony promise that "the lines between the anime and game will be blurred" as far as graphics are concerned. From everything I've seen up to this point, I can honestly say that I have a good feeling about this.

@vinchbr: You really can't have an arc in a game based largely on anime when that arc hasn't yet arrived in the US. Japan DOES have Shippuuden games, so you could always import them. That's definitely what I'd do if this is going to be released in Japan, because they'd likely have the Shippuuden character design.

I've been staring at these all morning, and I'm still not sure whether or not some of this isn't hand-drawn. The close-up of Naruto in Konawa (Second) and the one where he's fighting Neji (First), where you can see the ruffles in Naruto's collar, are hard to believe. Only time will tell.

I agree with most of you, I'm not to excited about a new Naruto game, and instead I'm just excited about the visuals on display here. Here's hoping they're not all bull! And that they make a One Piece game that looks like this.

So just to ask - is this yet another Naruto fighting game - or is this more like "Naruto: Rise of the Ninja", which from the Gametrailers review led me to believe it was something like GTA meets Naruto (run around, do missions, run around).

If its basically that game just redone for the PS3, I might get it. I'm not a Naruto fan, but the game itself based on the reviews looked interesting.

See, that's what we call FGF or Fake Game Footage if you prefer, but certainly a good looking one. It is a CGI video made to show to eventual publisher/deicison makers what the game should eventually looks like, but those rarely (maybe even never) run on the actual engine.

I wouldn't be surprised if they pulled it off, but I don't believe that this is actual gameplay.

As for the screenshots, they reek of PhotoShop from miles away. Still, I bet it is going to be a very good looking game in the end.

I'm kind of amazed, if that is gameplay screens we're looking at (Bullshots, anyone?). All the other Naruto games looked chunky and awkward, but this looks like you're playing the series.

@fulgore66: Bandai/Namco is also doing another all cel shaded game in Tales of Vesperia. And prior to seeing these shots I thought it had the best cel shaded graphics I had ever seen.

I hope whatever engine this game is running on is also being used for ToV.

A wonderful display. But yes, I too am getting tired of Naruto Games dealing with the exact same arc of the story. A lot of stuff has happened since then. Hell, make the voice acting all in japanese and just catch up to the manga with these graphics already. Maybe then I will actually buy a Naruto game.

If they can really pull of cell shaded animation like this now, I really hope they start using it more often. We desperately need another style of game animation to contrast all the hyper-realistic styles used in pretty much everything now.

The three impressive pics are the neji, kakashi, and sasuke shots.

It still looks like really nice cutscenes no doubt about it, but I think a high res video showing those actual shots is what is gonna prove this for me.

That's the question one has to ask themselves now doesn't it. Are those actually in game screenshots, or are they doctored shots. Because I have yet to see any actual professional CG Animation using cell shading that would look remotely as good as this. And we're talking CG Animation, as in not in realtime. So if those are realtime cell shading, then they just got the whole CG Movie makers beat, even though those are made with powerhouse computers and not consoles ;)

If this is real then they can just stop. Cel shading is over, its better than actual cel animation and we can all go home.

The Ubisoft title on the 360 was wholly enjoyable, though it would have been far more so with more playable characters in multiplayer.

It'll be interesting to see how that plays out in this PS3 rendition of, as was mentioned above, the same part of the story for the umpteenth time.

Holy crap, those are some amazing looking shots. I remember seeing a wee clip of this from a show in Japan (cell phone camera, terrible quality) but the action looked really fluid. Nice to see these screen grabs. Now if I can see a clip in HD, I'll be able to contain my drool no more!
