Ironically PC World found that the fastest Windows Vista notebook was the MacBook Pro. Interesting.

Macbooks @austinpoet: It is actually closer to $150 when compared with an ideintically specced Dell 1530. The regular Macbook actually comes out $200 cheaper than the 1350. So you're not really talking about much of a difference in price there, plus you also get a superior case (thin, light, all aluminum) and great travel accessories (the in-flight power adapter is tiny compared to the one you use with the Dell). It is really practically designed and you can run Windows on it if you want to play Windows games. My Macbook Pro runs TF2 and Company Of Heroes perfectly while I can run a bunch of other games in OS X if I want, and there is Gametap for OS X.

Even if I didn't use OS X (and at this point the ONLY reason I have Windows is for gaming), I'd still get a MBP for my notebook.

Oh yeah, and that etching is a little busy. :)

Im saving to get a macbook pro.. I already play wow (on Baelgun) and i play Guitar hero 3 (I Wish rock band came out for the pc/mac). Now does anyone know where i can get laser etching done...while i dont want a WoW design, I would love a companion cube on my macbook pro.

I think that with the next expansion coming out soon, concentrating on anything from the dark portal expansion seems like it will be an outdated laser etching very soon. Might as well have put Molten Core or Onyixa on there... Either way, it is still a beautiful design. A great addition to a great laptop.

@milkmonkey: I think you're right. That said it's all a bit of a moot point these days anyway with Boot camp. With a modern Mac you can play the Windows games plus the Mac games so it's win-win.

What do I think? I think that all Mac gamers play WoW. All true and loyal Mac gamers, that is. You'd have to run Bootcamp to get any other options. It's a depressing thought, of course. Either you're restricted to maybe one new game a year, or you've just paid a hefty premium to put your standard hardware in a fancy case _and_ you have to shell out more money to run an OS that software developers care about. Meaning, of course, that you just threw away a lot of money that could have been used to buy all those pretty games if you'd just gone straight for the Windows system in the first place.

@Swordmaster29: I think it looks rather bland to be honest. But it's hard to see on the photo really. If it's made up by several fine lines an amazing details then it's cool.... but it looks like it's mostly big flat shades surfaces to me.

Hmm, I'm not overly fond of the etching. I usually like my etchings to be more simplistic - almost impressionistic. When I see that much detail in an etching, I almost wonder if a sticker would have done the job equally well. Besides for everyone bashing/praising Mac gaming, what do you think of the etching?

@Channing: Actually, I do not own all Mac games, yet I have close to 300 different Mac game CDs (some dating back to the mid-90s where CDs where a new and hot media for computer games... I've unfortunately lost all old mac game floppys). Mac may not get all the games, but they're not completely without. That being said, I game on consoles as well and has since the NES.

@alb1221: Yeah, except that when you use Bootcamp you're not playing games on a Mac, you're playing them on Windows. It's not the hardware that sets Macs apart from regular PCs; it's the OS.

I'd say that more than "some of" Mac gamers (that is, the ones who are actually playing games in Mac OS X) play World of Warcraft, since it's one of the few games which actually runs natively on OS X.

@alb1221: Boot Camp is pretty. I use it, and I highly enjoy it. I also have a Gametap account, so not only do I have over 1,000 games I can play on the Windows side, there's also a bunch of of 'em I can play on the Mac side as well! The laser etching is pretty awesome, actually. I'm currently typing this on my MacBook Pro, which I used to play WoW on.

compare dell/hp/whatever notebook prices for a similarly spec'd macbook pro. you'll notice you pay about a 300 premium (if you don't do the stupid 4gb ram option) for the mac. Is 300 worth it for the customer service, quality of components, and ability to make it an XP box too?

I thought so.

now, for desktops... well Apple can just go fuck themselves.
