I worked in the parts department at an aviation company during the 2nd shift. My boss (who worked the first shift and usually left within 30-45 minutes of me arriving) pulled an adhesive from one of the cabinets and set it aside. That night, one of the maintenance supervisors came in, needing some stuff. My co-worker and I asked what he needed and he told us and went "I know where more things are than anyone else here, including my little hiding places." He ended up taking a few items, one being the adhesive set aside that morning, signed them out, and that was that.

The next day, my co-worker and I got called in to our department head's office and were reamed out by our 3 superiors there for issuing a part from the Hazmat locker that was past the expiration date, and that it ended up eating a hole in a wing and causing $140,000 damage to one of our planes.

Then after about 5 minutes, we were told "Welcome to the company" and my superiors started cracking up. It was a joke and the maintenance department caught the expired item.

Between this and the "BTW, Chris got recalled. He goes back to Iraq in a month," you can see part of the reason why it's my OLD job.

I've only recently started at a new position, and it looks to be a rather defining point in my life. Though exciting, it's also a little overwhelming. I'm working with someone I knew previously and am actually rather close with, which while nice because they're understanding about the learning curve, is also harder in a way - because I want to do better in order not to disappoint and have them think their trust or expectations were misplaced.

And then there's the taxes. Sigh.

Anyway, I wish you the best of luck - one step at a time should get you there, just don't, as they say, look down - it will only make the whole world go dizzy.

I wouldn't worry about your performance. I just got my TA evaluations back last week, and the biggest complaint was that I was inexperienced! No shit! I told my students I don't know how many times that it was my first quarter teaching, ever. It got me thinking, either they wouldn't have noticed I was inexperienced if I hadn't said anything, or they didn't hear a word I said the whole quarter (one student admitted to this, and attributed it to my inexperience). Best suggestion ever? Don't teach until I learn to teach better! Awesome! Honorable Mention: bitching to me about course materials immediately after I told them not to (as if I could do anything about it).
